View Full Version : How fast....?
JOEKILLA 08-31-2004, 03:51 PM Just wondering how fast you guys drive your Broncos.
When I take mine to work, I usually go passed 85mph. I am aware that I shouldn't drive it that fast, speciallysince it's going to be hard to stop going that fast, but I have to keep up with the traffic.
I am trying to keep it between 65-70 now though.
WhoaDammit 08-31-2004, 03:53 PM 50 on the back roads till I trouble shoot my top end death syndrome.
~Critter
Zach94 08-31-2004, 04:07 PM usually 72-75 on the expressways.
actually if i just put my speedometer on the speed limit i keep up with traffic real good (35 and 3.55's) :toothless
CasterTroy 08-31-2004, 04:14 PM 65?
I traded a bike that I personally saw 172 mph on (legally mind you...this was on the straight at VIR) for this bronco......I got over my need for speed with THAT. I've opened a new chapter of my life and barrel-assing down the hiway in my bronco with 33" Baja Claws just isn't in the picture
Now in the wifes hemi :shocked :chili: :rockon thats another story :toothless
Chris85xlt 08-31-2004, 04:36 PM on freeways i usually keep it at 75. any faster the SSRs would bounce out of control. before i used to go around 80-85mph
with boggers 65-70mph
60 if I'm lucky.....4.56 gears and no overdrive. :brownbag
Burl Swift 08-31-2004, 05:05 PM I drive at the speed of "Parked in the driveway".
Whatever the little sign at the side of the road says. But if traffic is a little crowded and moving faster than posted, I keep up with traffic.
FlaMudslinger 08-31-2004, 07:12 PM 60 if I'm lucky.....4.56 gears and no overdrive. :brownbag
:histerica :histerica 55 if I'm lucky 5.13 no overdrive
We're the guys the rest of you are :goodfinge waving to as you go by
Calisa1969 08-31-2004, 07:22 PM hmmmm not sure - my spedometer is broken... i can keep up with everyone else... Not too bad considering I've got 5.13 gears.
dsotmoon 08-31-2004, 07:26 PM mine hardly ever gets over 40MPH, seriously, its posted 35 or lower all the way to work and back, I'll get all wild and get it up to 55 on the odd day I get on the interstate :toothless
JOEKILLA 08-31-2004, 07:29 PM on freeways i usually keep it at 75. any faster the SSRs would bounce out of control. before i used to go around 80-85mph
with boggers 65-70mph
Mine would shake bad when I hit passed 70. I kinda use that now as a warning not to go any faster. :thumbup
Beats getting it balanced for $60+.
Chris85xlt 08-31-2004, 07:38 PM if your a Costco member u can get your tires rotated and balanced for $16 for all 4 tires.
BikerPepe` 08-31-2004, 07:44 PM 72mph (freeways) - 35's / 3.55, C6 @ 2700rpm approx. 10mpg
Also got my speedo fixed, got me out of a ticket and needed to be done anyway.
johnski 08-31-2004, 07:48 PM I like to go 5 mph faster than anyone in front of me.
MikE2 08-31-2004, 08:59 PM My bronco holds the land speed record in the western USA for an SUV with a piston engine
JOEKILLA 08-31-2004, 09:56 PM if your a Costco member u can get your tires rotated and balanced for $16 for all 4 tires.
Cool, I guess I'm gonna head out there. Thanks Chris! :thumbup
Fireguy50 08-31-2004, 10:00 PM I've been a little higher than:
http://fordfuelinjection.com/bronco/dash/speedo1.jpg
I was slowing down as I took that picture :duh
94_chickentaco 08-31-2004, 10:02 PM i recently had my rig up to 75 on the freeway
jrdbronco 08-31-2004, 10:09 PM bout 85 with 4.56's and 35's. didnt like it too much
Ogeechee 4x4 08-31-2004, 10:09 PM GPS (not to be confused with GSP (Ga. State Patrol)) said i hit about 105 on one of my many trips up to an ATL M&G... but with my TTB as out of alignment as it is, the spool, and the 35's bouncing out of control, it wasn't fun....
That's with my 35" hawgs, 3.55 gears and 3rd gear (mine won't hold OD when driving over 70mph)
But normal driving to and from work, i'll get up to about 40 or so (it's just across town). Normal interstate driving i'll cruise (word used VERY loosely) about 70-75...
BigBad94Bronco 08-31-2004, 10:15 PM On my way to work I will see around 65 , but tonight on my way to our cruise night I passed a Ram on 35"s around 80 .
bigbronco1996 08-31-2004, 10:24 PM i run between 60-75 on the freeway and the posted speed on backroads. The thing aint ment to haul a$$ and i dont like to go anyfaster, besides at 70 i tac 2000 rpm and get about 15 mpg. I like that...
axaviere 09-01-2004, 12:50 AM i found that with my 460, i CAN drive 55. really there is no reason that i can justify to drive any faster. fukc anybody thats behind me. pass if you want. i aint in no hurry to get anywhere
SSgtTEX 09-01-2004, 01:48 AM interstates i used to go 80 about especially when im heading to hunstville for the weekend, but between my last ticket, the larger tires, price of gas, and the fact that the bronco doesnt like much speed anymore between the leaks and the wobble at interstate speed, i really need to get that fixed i stick to 65 on speedo which is about 70. Though everyday on my way to work the speed limit is 55 on 31 so i do about 65 on my speedo, pass a few cars mainly that is a good in the middle speed of everyone/
2fastnaz 09-01-2004, 01:56 AM Mine will run 85 all day at 3500 rp0m what dfoes that mean?
axaviere 09-01-2004, 02:05 AM i am under 2500 at 55, but thats a big block
Chris85xlt 09-01-2004, 03:46 AM i've hit 105mpg from looking at my GPS in overdrive. the bronco felt pretty good and stable even with the SAS.
i also get 12.5 mpg
Oscar 09-01-2004, 05:12 AM i've hit 105mpg from looking at my GPS in overdrive. the bronco felt pretty good and stable even with the SAS.
I have done that to with the 44s and it was not bad :rockon
bronco831 09-01-2004, 03:32 PM I drive too fast for my own good :brownbag
I've had the speedo pegged.. but thats a little scary .. my ball joints were trashed ...
I usually get it up to about 75mph on the freeway ...going downhill :brownbag :histerica
trout8200 09-01-2004, 03:47 PM As fast as the little people in my engine compartment will run. :shocked
PaulT 09-01-2004, 04:03 PM i've hit 105mpg
i also get 12.5 mpg
I usually get 11 mpg. Never heard of a bronc getting 105 mpg, but I'd like to find out how! :toothless
I drive slightly faster than the traffic, up to a speed where the truck vibrates too much then back off 2 mph
MikE2 09-01-2004, 09:04 PM i've hit 105mpg from looking at my GPS in overdrive.
:histerica The GPS calculates the milage too! :histerica 105 mpg is awesome - I have never gotten better 13 mpg in my ride. :thumbup
Bluebeast 09-01-2004, 09:18 PM too fast to brag. i try to keep it no more than 80 with 35s and 3.55 w/ overdrive off
Stomper4x4 09-01-2004, 09:40 PM If you speed, you're a selfish, self centered prick. No, you cant change my mind. Its a matter of time before you hurt someone. No, you're not that good of a driver, and no, you cannot predict what you will encounter that is not in your contol on any given day. Dont be an a-hole, don't speed. Its not necessary unless there is an emergency. Nope, being late for your AA meeting is not an emergency. SPEEDERS SUCK

I only speed where it is safe to do so and only if I am still going with the flow of traffic. If everyone on the freeway is doing 70mph and you are only going 55mph, that can cause a wreck too. All the roads around my town have the speed limits way too low anyway. There has been many people who have gotten tickets and then got off because it was considered a speed trap.
dogonmut 09-02-2004, 04:32 AM 4 link, coil overs, bias ply's and king pins...anything over 55 is like punching Jello...but it'll do 70-75 if had a death wish...I just pray I don't need to turn sharp at hi-way sppeds. :brownbag

I'm a bit unclear on your position. Could you elaborate?
I've hit 90 probably twice, but it's not fun. On flat open interstate I'll do 75-80 in the Bronco; anything over that is uncomfortable.

The Cougar's hit 97 before, and then I brought it way down.
Also, I drive the limit, but my tires make me go faster. As long as you keep your eyes on traffic, you'll be fine.

:histerica yea, me to, I am going to tell that too a cop when I get pulled over next. I am running 36's on 3.50!!! :histerica

That didn't work for me the other day

:cry
hmthesing 09-05-2004, 04:41 PM I don't think I could hit 75. 65 mph is pushing it, since I'm running around 3100 rpm's at that speed. 36" tires with a c6 and 4.88s, not gonna speed very much. I like to savior my gas. Besides, I got my speed fix out of the way when I had my '93 Ford Taurus SHO. 130 was sweet as hell. But that was on a four lane highway with hardly any traffic. Someone wanted to "pass" me, wasn't going to happen. :slap
Mad Ogre 09-05-2004, 05:08 PM I don't go above 65. It gets the shakes above that.
