View Full Version : Spring ride heights, Post yours.
SpareParts 05-30-2003, 12:51 AM Everybody, including me, is always wanting to know what springs you have or have tried. Post what you know, to help everybody else.
I have 9" 79' Superlift coils and compressed they are 21" with a small block, factory bumper and reciever hitch.
plug ugly 05-30-2003, 02:31 AM superlift ttb 6" 21.5 free, 17.5 loaded
Fabtech 8" 2WD coils, 22 free, 18.5 load
Procomp 4" ttb, 19 free, ? loaded
this is with a 351 and heavy bumper and winch on a 94
bigdave 05-30-2003, 09:43 AM Haven't done the SAS yet, but I have 8" progressive rate Valley Springs for 78/79 Broncos.
SpareParts 05-30-2003, 07:28 PM It really don't matter if it is on an IFS or SAS. The coil height will be the same.
81Bronk36 05-31-2003, 01:57 AM It really don't matter if it is on an IFS or SAS. The coil height will be the same. ya but I think the point is, if someones on the phone ordering springs and they are like 21" unloaded and you say 78-79, and they are actually TTB coils, the person on the other end might not be able to find the coils. At least if someone has all the info it keeps future questions at bay as well.
SpareParts 05-31-2003, 09:05 PM Thats why you list, as I did, the year they will fit from factory, the brand, the advertised height and the "ride" height. This way you if you want to use the TTB or the SAS coils, you will know where you will be on your rig. You would order them buy the manufacture, the year and advertised height.
Dustin 05-31-2003, 10:10 PM superlift 78-79 6" free height is 22", loaded?
my superlifts where the same height as the fabtechs I swaped in which I will have to get a compressed measure latter. just fyi it didnt change the lift height either
Swamp Donkey 06-18-2003, 10:33 PM Does anyone have any experience with Wild Horses or James Duff EB coils? I am thinking maybe the 5.5in coils(stiffest b/c they are made for an EB). These are the progressive rate coils right?
Also, what about Skyjacker 6in. SA coils?
I want to flex well, but I want at least some comfort on the hwy. Offroad comes first though. Just looking for something that might be the best of both worlds.
SpareParts 06-19-2003, 12:49 AM I have a friend that has done a SAS on a S-10. He is using the EB Bronco axle and the James Duff coils. They flex pretty well but they are starting to sag under the weight of a 4 cylinder S-10! I don't think they will hold up under a fullsize for long at all.
Heres a link to his pic...it's pretty big.

The Skyjacker Coils are supposed to be pretty good for both worlds from what I have heard.
Crazed 06-19-2003, 12:53 AM My 6" Superlift TTb springs measure 18" tall while installed...I have a 5.0 if that matters.
EvilBronc 06-19-2003, 03:59 AM Unloaded hight of skyjacker 8" Ford Ranger coils-21", loaded-19"
plug ugly 06-19-2003, 02:27 PM as i understand, ll these coils are progressive. I think you are talking about variale rate coils, like the ones Jopes is using on his 79. They sag a lot, and he is having curve problems, which e is in the process of fixing.
If you can flex well enough that you max out a 9012, why would you need a longer better flexing spring? If that is the case, go coilovers.
Bronkzilla 06-19-2003, 04:32 PM my variable rate coils didnt sag or bend.. they also didnt seem to compress well.. they were from Valley Spring Works..
welndmn 06-19-2003, 05:01 PM My Vab rate coils don't bend, They sag down about 1-2 inches, but that could just be "Broke in" too
SpareParts 06-23-2003, 07:04 PM after they have settled or "broke in" whats the ride height and where did you get them....I'm trying to find a coil with about 21"-23" of ride height and still flexable. My Superlift ones are real stiff. I have heard Skyjacker, but haven't heard of anyone else running a 79" coil on a SAS, small blocked vehicle. Theres a big weight difference in the too. I don't want to end up with what I already have.

Our buddy bill with the chevy is running the 10" lift skyjacker coils, and IIRC ( dont quote me) they are at 21" loaded with a fullsize chevy extra cab (bobbed) with a 350. they may put you wherre you want to be. Also, one of the brothers (sampang?????) had some of those for sale a while back and may be a good source of info.
SpareParts 10-21-2003, 11:50 PM 10" Skyjacker coils, IFS os Solid axle lift? I thought they only made a 8" IFS coil and a 9" Solid axle.
Do you have a e-address for Bill, I would like to talk to him.
It sounds like thats the coil I need without buying a custom coil.
Since my last post I have also talked to a guy at Indy Jamboree, he has a nice looking 65' F-150 with the 9" Solid axle coil. It was nice and soft. He tried bouncing (pushing down on the front bumper) mine and could only get it to move about an inch. His moved about 3-4" when he bounced his.
plug ugly 10-23-2003, 01:14 AM i think you're right, maybe it was a 9" coil for te solid. Sorry for the bad info. He is chevyboat over on wt4wheeling.com
SpareParts 10-25-2003, 10:09 AM I'll check it out, thank you!
93_bronco 05-19-2004, 01:48 AM whats the stock coil height compressed? Or can I take the 6" coil height and subtract 6" for stock. the reason im asking is beacause the shop says my coils are sagging, I just wanna check.
