i like the idea blaze. we need to come up with a few spots to go wheeling, and see what is the best for everyone. i'll go just about anywhere. if anybody knows a good spot, and is familar with the area, chime in. hopefully i'll get mine running by then. if not i'll have to borrow my old man's heep. thats if you all wouldnt black list me for doing that.

come on bronco babe, my wife is gonna flip if she is the only woman there.

I'm considering it, but right now my bronco is (for all practical purposes) stock; open diffs, 25% tread AT/S's, no lift.... I don't want to be a nusiance on the trail....

I'm trying to install some leveling coils on the front and swap over the tires off my f-150....it might do a little better then. If only it was after i received my fall tuition, i might could get a lock right...

I'll keep it in mind...but I can't say either way right now...

oh, BTW I'm in Statesboro--it's about 50 miles NW of savannah on I-16

Nathaniel
06-06-2003, 12:28 AM
hey Ogeechee, you wont be the only one with a stocker if I wheel my bronco.

Blaze
06-06-2003, 01:23 AM
Yea man come on, Mines lifted but stock Diff's...We just won't wheel to hard on this outing...There are gonna be more to get seriuos on.

BroncoBabe, If you could get down my way you could ride on in to Fla. with me. I could always use a co-pilot.

jermil01
06-06-2003, 10:00 AM
Its not like we're going to get crazy or anything..just some light wheeling, we may find some hard stuff. But at this point, I just want to get out..Trust me, I'm not in it to break anything right now, can't afford it..

Miketnf150
06-06-2003, 11:43 AM
So make your vacation to Florida, what's wrong with that??

Nothing is wrong with that at all but when you got a pregnant wife with raging hormones at any given moment I tend to try and make her as happy as possible.

Plus she doesn't like the offroading thing.. :bawling :bawling :bawling :bawling Working on that one though!!! :whip :whip :whip :whip

06-06-2003, 11:56 AM
ooh..my bad..I don't know about the pregnant wife and raging hormones thing yet, but I'm sure down the road I will be asking for your advice, however, I can with the fiance' that doesn't appreciate the off roading thing..that's ok though, slowly but surely she'll come around especially since I told her I was never getting rid of the Bronco...

jermil01
06-06-2003, 12:22 PM
See why is that?? When we want to have one thing that we enjoy doing, i.e. working on our Broncos, they have to make something of it..She made a comment like, "how long do you plan to keep it?" and "you're not going to let it rust away in the driveway are you?" I promptly explained to her that, although I love her very very much, if I did not have the Bronco to play around with, I might be an unbearable person to be around..I think she's letting it lie for now. My best argument though, is that its paid for..

O.K Just got off the phone with Jeremy and here's the deal: Week-end of the 13th (July) in Ocala (right off of I-75 in Fla.) He's trying to get in touch with the guy from "sports in the rough" because they wheel there. We're going to camp on the site, Jeremy has a place he allready camps. Also we're getting together around next week-end to finish the rest of details.

Come on, I know some of you southern folks have friends on here that haven't posted....Spread the word!

ocala has tons of trails. plenty for a stock rig, or an all out rig. lots of land out there. i'm praying mine will be done by then. gonna try to work on her this weekend. but i'll be taking it easy on it. still gotta break in everything. ocala is a very popular spot for all the clubs down here. seems every club in the area spends a lot of time wheeling there.

Blaze
06-07-2003, 05:09 AM
Like we've said before, we won't be wheelin' hard core this run (as much as we'd love to) I'll have a brand new engine I'm breakin' in with stock gears and open dif's and most ppl who said they were comin' will be in daily drivers so were gonna take it "easy" (if there is such a thing!! J/K) If it can move....... bring it! I know you want to be involved in what we plan to make an annual event, if for nothing else just to say you were at the first one!!!

I went camping on my friend's property on the Itchinutucky(sp?) river this weekend and Ocala is on the way so we stoped to do a little four wheelin, and all I can say is it is SWEET, plenty for a stock rig to do, sorry I don't have pics, my fault for havin a woman for a best friend that refusdes to get out. :argue: They have a bunch of trails, the numbered ones aretruck only, the others are truck and ATV. Thought I would turn in my trail report

well i made some progress on the bronco today. raised up the gas tank three inches so it wont drag the ground quite so bad. all i have to do is take the tanks skid plate to my welder to get three inches taken outta it. i also did some body work to the tailgate. i'll post pics on superford if your really interested in seeing it. (doubt it will get to many hits.) i'm gonna try to get her into the tranny shop this week. if i get that tranny problem cleared up, i'm pretty much ready to roll. just little things left. trying to make sure i can get her to the run next month.

i have a map of the forest around here somewhere. i havent spent to much time north of hwy 40. i usually go in the big scrub entrance off hwy 19. i have heard that north of 40 there are better trails. i'll try to do some homework on it and post what i find. i really wanna head out with you all that weekend. been workin on the bronco trying to get her ready.

Nathaniel

I spent my entire time north of 40, I mostly went to the unnumbered trails on the map, I'll try to find my map and give whereabouts.

jermil01
06-10-2003, 10:47 AM
Excellent, I'll post any info I get back from the people at Sports In The Rough..I generally would ride down by the power lines off of FR 579, that runs across 40..

Does any one own a GPS??? I have a really good Delorme map with the GPS grids on it and we would be able to mark the good spots..

jermil01
06-11-2003, 11:30 AM
I have emailed several different groups that have had trail rides in the Ocala area requesting info on locations for riding. I am planning to camp at Lake Oklawaha camp ground, located of State Road 19 and will most likely arrive Friday evening. Will keep everyone posted as more info becomes available.

i e-mailed a guy that has a 78 or a 79 bronco. he used to be the president of a local club in the orlando area. i let him know about FSB and told him about the run. i'm kinda new to the area and really dont know anybody that even owns a 4x4. i found this fellas name when searching for local clubs. it looks like his club did a lot of wheeling in the ocala forest. hopefully he will check out out site here and chime in with some helpfull info, or even ride along with us. that camp ground jermil01 is talking about would be a great place for us all to met up at. i dont know if i will be able to camp or not yet cause i will most likly have the baby with me, but at the very least get there early saterday morning and hang out till late that nite. where he is talking about is only a couple of hours from my house.

Sounds great guys...to chime in a bit: I have a gps, the camping area sounds good to me, I'll try to meet up with you as early as possible on Fri. Jeremy so we can kinda get the camp site established and welcome members as they arrive. Nathaniel, or GearHead if either of you finds your maps and has a scanner it would be cool to down load it and e-mail me or jermil01. Oh and GearHead in case you haven't seen the other threads...I'm with you on the "hurry up and finish my rig" jitters. (My engine is out)

GearHead
06-11-2003, 11:39 PM
you work fast blaze. it took me 8 months to get my motor out, built and back in. not my daily driver, so i wasnt in a hurry. good luck with it. all i can say, is do what you want to the motor while its out. or regret it like i do. didnt get gt-40 heads like i wanted, and didnt get an agressive enough of a cam. it still runs 10 times stronger than it did when it was stock, but it really could of been mean if i went all out. i'm gonna screw with the truck this weekend again, get some more done, i'm really trying to get it done in time. i'll hook up my scanner and see if it still works. i'll post it on superford if it does and link it to here. i think there are a bunch of places on-line to get good maps and discriptions of the area. my brother found some. i'll give him a ring too.

Ok guys here is the latest update, got an email back from Ray Woo, pres of the Florida Fourwheel Drive Assoc..there are a lot of different places we can ride near where we will be camping at lake Oklawaha, a few of them are as follows.

- The Eureka Sand Pit which is just off the main paved road that connects to CR316. It is approximately 3 miles from that intersection. Watch for a side road on the left right where the pavement surface on the main road changes from asphalt to cement. Stay to the pit area on the right. The pit area on the left is closed and monitored by the Sheriff.

- The Rodman sand pit which is at far north termnus of trail 88

- The Mondex - actually north of Forest property on Hwy 19, north of the Ocklawaha River on the left hand side of the road. This is Georgia Pacific land that allows public access. The trails and ponds can get deep and muddy. Just follow the tire tracks left by the locals to get to the more popular spots.

- Trail 77 east of Hwy 19. Follow it eastwards towards Little Lake George. Deep water and muddy trails.

So you can see we have a nice mix of mud sand and trails. I'll be getting my big map out this evening so I can make sure I can find these locations, but it should not be very tough.

On another note, please refer to this ride as the 1st Annual FullSize Bronco Dixie Chapter Bash, or something similar to that. Make no references to the location, as Ray informed me that certain :piss greenies and environmentalist  nut jobs :flipoff: have the USFS monitor the internet for posts on this and have actually used information in postings and pictures to justify closing lands in that neck of the woods. I told Ray we would definitely tread lightly so that we may return in the future to open public land. I'll keep y'all posted as more info is available.

Blaze
06-12-2003, 10:53 AM
Thanks for the info... We'll tread lightly.. *mumbles assholes under breath* :moon The main thing to remember is that any encounter with "greenies" needs to be handle "diplomaticly" as any negative actions will not only draw the wrong kind of attention to our hobbie but also this site! :whip

P.S. don't get me wrong, when I wheel I always respect the area and I'm not gonna do anything different on that regard just for them. I just mean that any confrontation should be handled on a professional level. *signs off mumbling about assholes again.....*

i was just thinking about this today. i was wondering since we are going out as a group if we have to notify the forest service or anything like that. i have seen tons of pics of heeps out there wheeling. seems they dont have any problems. i know you can get a map at the ranger station, and it will list the numbered roads you can drive on, and the ones that are closed. when your out there, signs are all over saying what is off limits. i have always stayed on the numbered trails and fire breaks. never had a problem, but i really havent spent to much time out there, and wasnt with a group of people. anyway, thats why i hope we can get someone who is familar with the area to ride with us. not only to show us good spots, but to give us an idea of where not to go.

Nathaniel
06-12-2003, 08:29 PM
When I went out there the park rangers we're really helpful in showing me where I could and couldn't go, the only people I had to watch out for were the hog poachers who block the trail(do NOT try to go around them)
:flipoff: to hog poachers and anyone else that ruins it for the rest of us

GearHead
06-12-2003, 08:41 PM
hog poachers? whats that? i though that pig season was year round. so what did the ranger mean? was there supposed to be a bunch of rednecks running around the woods blasting everything with shotguns?
i always traveled with a 44 when i went off road, maybe i saw deliverance one to many times i dont know. i think i will leave it home this trip though, didnt wanna bug out the wife or you guys having a big ass gun in the truck.

Nathaniel
06-12-2003, 08:49 PM
The ranger didn't say anything about them, I saw em with my own two eyes, looked like somethin outta delivernce
Hunting with hounds is all year but gun hunting is restricted to seasons

Blaze
06-12-2003, 09:16 PM
I'm an avid hunter but, I'm not familuar with Fla. laws on hunting. I know here Hogs are considered a "non-game" animal and can be hunted year round with a gun. Hell, sometimes it's encouraged!! As far as the gun thing I hope no-one has a problem with them. because mine goes everywhere I do. I'm a licensed carrier (and Fla. recognizes my Ga. License) and VERY responsible. No-one will even know I have it (excaept I just told ya  ) unless it's needed. It's like the extra axles I've seen some "wheelers" carry: Some think it's a little overboard untill you're the one getting your ass saved by it! (and we all pray that never happens in both cases!!

I don't have a problem with guns, I'm actually in the market for a new huntin rifle. Only reason I say watch out fer the poachers is they is dangerous b/c they're breakin the law and quite suspicous of others(I got stared down by one when I got to their trucks and had to turn around b/c they were blocking the trail) And I did a little research into it, guns are prohibitated on state land unless designated, and the area is posted quite clearly no guns or dogs

GearHead
06-12-2003, 11:20 PM
i hear ya blaze, thats usually the way i think. i know there are places in the forest you cant have a fire arm. and there are places you can. near 19 and 40 is a outdoor gun range. there are some areas south of 40 near the bombing range, where there are signs that clearly say no firearms past this point. i will still leave mine at home, it will bug the wife out to much. that and i think i will be safe with a few other trucks. if it was just me out there, i'd have a heater for sure. :blue:

jermil01
06-13-2003, 10:34 AM
Whenever my friends and I go camping down there, we always have some protection, generally in the form of my 12 gauge Remington Magnum Express and my S&W .357 :2guns: . But when we go camping, we are typically so deep in the forest that if something does happen there, it may be a while before someone knows about it. I'll probably leave them home for this trip since we're going to be in an area that's pretty well travelled. As far as the hunting goes, I believe hog season is year round, but you probably won't see a whole lot of hunters out in July, it will be to hot for them to run their dogs. They're usually just a bunch of good ole boys :toothless who won't mess with you if you're minding your business, now if you're haulin ass down a FR while they're trying to hunt look out   ...I'll save that story for the trip..We don't have to notify the ranger station, although we can.
I have at least two really good maps of the forest with the FR #'s and the information provided to me by the guy at the Florida 4 wheel drive Association. Went over the maps last night and was able to find all but one of the places he was talking about, so we should be in for some really good wheeling..Got my digital camera all ready so we can take plenty of pics..As we get closer to the date, I'll post more info about where we can meet up and all that.

I am trying to find out if I will be able to go or not. Is anyone going to care if I bring a friend w/ a Jeep? I'm sure you don't care but I know some runs are exclusive to whatever brand they drive.
So, is the plan going to be meet Friday-set up camp, Sat- wheel, Sun- wheel or split?

jermil01
06-13-2003, 03:15 PM
Spade, I can't speak for everyone, but it won't bother me if you show up in a jeep..its all about the wheeling so whatever is driveable at the time, bring it..As far as the game plan, yeah the idea is to show up Friday, set up camp, plan the next day out, wheel Saturday, and then Sunday, wheel or split.

Blaze
06-13-2003, 08:24 PM
Yea Spade thats pretty much the plan, Me and Jeremy are going next week-end to scout. All rides are welcome...the more the merrier! By the way.... $3,465.15 later "the Beast" is back on the road! As far as plans go, we can maybe squeeze in some wheelin' Sun. but don't forget camp clean up etc.
Spade your looking at a 6 (+/-) hour ride. You'll come right by me so let me know what time you plan on leaving, and we might can meet here and make the rest of the trip down together. You too, Ogeechee...Bronco convoy....WoooHooo!

Thanks GearHead, Were damn sure trying! We didn't want this to be some half baked thrown together ride (allthough those are great fun too..we hope to follow this up with a bunch of those!) but we actualy want this ride to become an annual thing! A big (when it grows up) Bronco bash every summer, suthren style! We were really hoping for a bigger response, but were not sure how serious everyone is taking us? :shrug (everyone meaning southerners..I know alot of other folks too far away would love to be here) It could be everyones busy then, but the post responses haven't exactly been overwhelming. Anyway 5 or 6 rigs would be a damn good start! :) I'm gonna try to have some sticker made up for FSB Dixie Chapter if anyone is interested. People there can get 'em from me then...whats left over I'll prolly offer on here. I might even get some shirts made up (just for the people that show). It depends on what kinda price the guy will give me. Anyway thanks for the support. We need it!

i'm trying real hard to get my rig together so i can make this trip. i dropped off some stuff at the welding shop to get fixed. then its on to the tranny shop. i'm figuring i'm gonna have a steep bill there, so you wont be the only one who is broke blaze. if all goes well to this point, gonna try to go look at some used ground hawgs locally. 35-14". height should be ok, but probaly gonna rub my stock radius arms pretty bad. guess i will just have to deal with it.
maybe there will be a better responce after we post some pics of us out there. i'll bring my dig camera along. maybe could could get a good run together ever 3 or 4 months. or even more would be ok with me. some of the local heep clubs have one good run a month, but they arnt as spread out as we are. but i am sure we can get something together regardless.

Tools, Tow Strap, maybe chain, campin stuff, oil, ATF, clothes, water, will try to snag welder(either self powered stick or mig and generator or if the camp site has power just the mig), digi cam, emergency supplies(1st aid kit, etc.), plus anything else I think of last second

Edit: Do yall think the welder is nesecary? b/c I am only bringing it for emergencies but I'd prefer not to bring it b/c unless I bring my crappy mig I'll be borrowing it from my teacher

I agree with Blaze, 5 or 6 rigs would be a great start and I know we can make this an annual thing. As far as the camping goes, we will need to make reservations at Lake Oklawaha campground. I plan on calling ahead either later today or tomorrow and let them know how many of us there is likely to be..I'll keep y'all posted.:beer

i know there are some places on hyw 40, but thats not gonna be to close to where we will be right? i'm not to worryed about fuel, i can gas up near home, and should have plenty for the day. i'm probabaly the closest one to the forest.

I'll probably bring: hand tools (big suprise), oil, atf, h2o, snatch strap, come-a-long, jumper cables, camping supplies...
i donno what else more than likely whatever follows me out the door or is currently in my bronco...

I was thinking about gas today... even if a station is close by, cans might not be a bad idea...the fire wood could be damp or something...:goodfinge

remind me to tell y'all about the time me and some friends set a mud bog on fire :thumbup

There's places to get gas on 19 and on 40. 19 is the road Lake Oklawaha is off of, so no matter where we go down there, we'll be with in 20 minutes of a gas station, keep at least a quarter tank and you won't have a problem.

Do yall know if there are any Citgo's there? Because my only way to pay for gas is my citgo gas card, or should I get some extra money out of the bank for gas?

Bring the $$$$, that's always the best bet..there is a citgo, but its up towards Palatka North on 19, which if I'm not mistaken is opposite of the direction you'll be coming from.

Hey y'all, I got some updated information. I've been talking with a guy from Clay County 4x4's and another guy with the South Marion Offroad Club, both of them have given me the location of where to go, or at least the really good spots to go, one of the guys may actaully even be able to come down there and lead us to the one area..Hopefully I'll be hearing from him in the next day or so, if I can I plan on taking a trip down there again to check it out, but he has advised me that moderate rigs can make it through. I'll continue to keep you posted..
