Good job Joe. When at the main forum page I think it really needs to show not only who has the most recent post in that forum, but *on what thread.* The old board did this....

I am having some problems on the main page, when you have looked at a topic, it still says that you havent looked at it, I have to go in and press the " mark this forum as being read" button.....Any Ideas?

i believe thats the way it is intended until you leave the site and come back but I'll ceck into it

When you go to the reply page you know it shows you the post your replying to as a refrence at the bottom of the page? well does it have to show all the pics with it? It's a PIA to be typing your reply and all the sudden your screen moves on ya to adjust for a large pic.:banghead

I'm with Crazed and 1982Bronco. I like being able to see what threads I have read already. I don't want to log in and out just so I can see which ones I have viewed.

Just chiming in another .02 on this Post Read count.
I've got posts I made myself showing as new (obviously I read it... I made it.)
And like everyone... reading through all the posts in a category, then going out and marking them read before moving on to the next category is a real drag. It's making it very tough for a post whore like me to keep up with all the posts.

So far the new board is pretty cool, but this specific piece sux!!:cry

the next version vB3 will have this as default, me, the admins and MODs are testing the beta version of it now, i think I am going to wait to it is released instead of hacking this one all to death and then upgrading anyway, so hand tight, nore featutes to come :thumbup

Something else that I like about the other and just thinking I bet there isn't anything that can be done about it. When you would post a reply with the other layout all the other posts would be in a window so you could scroll through them to cut/paste from. This layout it's all in one.:( :( :(

Yeah Blaze it kind of suxs being back at the work place. I did miss FSB though. My brother brought his laptop but the speed at the condo was like 26k. Just too slow to go through everything to keep up. So I got some major reading to do.....

i'm really liking VB, to add the online status here all i had to do is change 2 words in the admin panel and make the graphic I wanted to use for it, in phpbb i had to install a hack that took 30 minutes

I'm really liking the board and your recent tweaks kick ass, but this marking my own topics, then they don't stick, etc... SUX!

I usually "search for new posts" and then I just hang out there, because it marks the posts there.....kinda loosing touch with the main page tho.......:brownbag

Well Joe... I don't know what you should do, but I'll tell you what's going on.

The old freebie board would automatically mark any post I viewed as read. All I had to do was view the post in question and the status would change on it's own.

Now if I go and view a thread, then step back out... it still shows as unread/new. Even if I go in and REPLY on a thread, it will still show as unread/new.

I literally have to read all threads in a forum, the go to the forum itself, choose "Mark this Forum Read" and then go back out the the main FORUMS page. Sometimes this doesn't even work, threads will still show as unread/new.

My IE prefs are as low as they'll go.
I've flushed all my cookies, temp files, history, etc and still have this problem.

It may be just me... but I doubt it.

i am reading up on this now, it seems your problem is something different than i thought, if i read a new thread (one marked with an open envelope) and go back it will then be a closed envelope, but on the main page it will not show that forum read until i click on "mark forum read"


from what i am reading it has something to do with cookies, i'm still reading though

im with them.

but mine does show a closed envelope after i read it but there is still an arrow by it.

the arrow has nothing to do with it being read or not just the envelopes, the arrow just takes you to the most recent post in the most recent threads, its all about the envelopes :thumbup

but when the arrow is there it still shows it as unread on the mainpage :shrug

The "event calander" button at the very top works fine.

But the "calender" button between "register" and "members" on the forum page gives me this:

"The administrator has disabled the calendar at the moment."

When I open FSB first thing in the morning and go through all the unread post, close FSB, and then go back in it's like I haven't even been on the site. It looks just like it did when I first opened it up. Showing forums like I hadn't just read them. Even the post that I replied to are showing like they did when I first got on FSB..

Yea Mike... I still have that problem.
Occasionally the site even stops responding in the middle of responding or browsing and when I come back in... it's lke starting all over.

If you've read everything and/or marked all posts read and want to make sure they stay that way (unless new posts are acutally made) I've had great luck using the "View New Posts" link (under "Welcome back, <username>" on the main page.
Once the search is complete I can click on the "Mark All Forums Read" link and after that everything stay marked, unless it's new.

Kind of a pain, but it helps me keep track! :toothless :banghead :shrug :thumbup

Thanks Pepe' I like the new look but it definately has some bugs that need to be worked out.

Yea... I think Joe's waiting on the next version to go live to fix many of those quirks.
