I figured do to its overwhelming popularity that the system could'nt keep up or something Is that what it is? :shrug RavenTBK 12-11-2004, 10:31 PM Cool beans Joe! :thumbup I was wonderin what was going wrong these past few days. Didnt know if the cat was chewing on the cat5 or what... :toothless dsotmoon 12-11-2004, 10:49 PM I love this site but its always having little probs. I figured do to its overwhelming popularity that the system could'nt keep up or something Is that what it is? :shrug yep, pretty much, growing pains, each time I upgrade 4-6 months later we need to do it again, we need our own server but the funds dont permit that at the moment so we are on a VPS, its like our own server but its one server broken into multiple VPS's (virtual private server) , once the funds are there to spend about 1500.00 a year we will have our own server, righ now we spend about 800.00 a year, but a VPS allows us to upgrade space, RAM and processor speed as needed so its a viable solution BlancoBronco 12-12-2004, 01:02 AM Is that what your saying or maybe people can donate hu?:shrug BroncoChuck 12-14-2004, 12:21 AM I would hate to see some people forced off the site if it went to a strickly paid site by maybe a "yearly" membership fee of $25-$50 ??? As of 10:15pm (central time) there were 5,043 members (how many active who knows) but even if only half of that # donate yearly membership fees that......$63,037.50 = 2521 members paying $25 a year for this great board! Well to your new top of the line co-located dedicated server(s) and you could make this a full time job (not that its not that in the first place!) Hell even if you made it only $5.00 a year thats still 12,607.50 a year if only half the current members become paid members! Something to think about. The hosting company I currently run has only 10 clients (currently) plus it pays for the current server/hosting cost but my sites/ and extra money to pays misc bills and exp. (not a second income yet) but enough for me to switch to a more powerfull dedicated server during the first quater of 2005..... BlancoBronco 12-14-2004, 12:45 AM I think maybe I should start a paid membership web site.. & quit my job :goodfinge BroncoChuck 12-14-2004, 01:05 AM but the kicker is.............Getting people to pay for something they have been getting for FREE all this time. For example I get so many free tech mags that cost in exess of $150 a year for a subscriptions. When one of them tried to start charging me after getting it free for 4 years I canceled it even though now I just have to steal if from a friend at work. But why pay for something you havent HAD to pay for and can get for free else where. This site is the end of the line and the front of the pack for a hell of a lot of info on every make / model / year of FSB . And most if not all the members are dedicated to their rides and this board. Its something the owner needs to kick around and make sure everyones aware of and get opinions from prior to making that leap. Some people will just leave for other forums....but you know what....theres not one like this one anywhere....... (just my 2 cents) BlancoBronco 12-14-2004, 01:19 AM that he was going to start charging... I started by saying maybe that if we had more paid members it would make it easier on Joe & for people that want some added features like being able to upload pics directly...To join. Dont take my thoughts as the thoughts of the almighty master of FSB. I was just kicking around thoughts to him which he still has not commented on & your taking my ideas as something Joe plans to do... I am just a fully paid member ..Nothing more! I am not a moderator , advisor or anything.. Just a member.. I may be an odd ball (yes) but I did'nt hesitate at all when the paid mamber ships came up. Sure it did'nt really change anything as far as my use of FSB but It made me feel good to show that I do care about this site & was happy to pay a small fee to have the honor of being an official member. BroncoChuck 12-14-2004, 08:14 AM BlancoBronco....... Im sorry to rip on your comment or take it a little to far. I was just adding on to your comment. Saying that IF he were to charge even a very small yearly membership fee it would help him with his issue of ongoing upgrades. Thats all no more no less. And I to have no issues either with the current donation / paid membership .... I was just throwing out ideas. ... Anyways....... Back to current thread topic........ Its a nice upgrade and the fact that the sites not timing out anymore like last week is nice. BlancoBronco 12-14-2004, 09:47 AM BlancoBronco....... Its a nice upgrade and the fact that the sites not timing out anymore like last week is nice. Its all good.... I just wanted to make sure that people did'nt start thinking that Joe had dicided to start charging everyone ,, Because I have noticed that alot of people just skim through the words..If you dont read what we were discussing carefully it might look like joe was saying all the things that I brought up , When it was all me.. Just want to make it clear to all .. Just want to prevent Joe from getting a bunch of people saying , Why are you doing this.. Or hey I cant affod it. or what ever OK I think I made myself clear now. Thank you , You can all go back to WebWheeling now.. :thumbup BrettM 12-17-2004, 05:16 AM Thank for the upgrade! I've noticed over the past couple of weeks that the site was getting timed out (logged jammed). I didn't realize (haven't looked hard) that there were paid memberships/subscriptions available (let me know where). I'd be willing to pay/donate @ $10-20/yr to help keep this great site up & running! I've looked @ a # of 'boards (relative to the different cars I own) and this is the only 1 I've felt was worth joining. So...any change for better, I firmly support! SpringsBronco 01-06-2005, 10:57 AM Maybe the paid membership thing isn't a necessary discussion? I have no doubt that if a post came up saying something about "here are our current issues as identified by members (slow loading pages, whatever) and here are the solutions, which will cost $___" there would be many of us (myself included) that would be willing to pony up a few bucks toward this. I know that I've gotten a ton of free help from site members (and hope I've given a little, too) and that NOT having to go to some mechanic has saved me a ton of money. And I've had a blast reading funny messages, seeing the pimping and getting ideas for my Bronco (putting the SuperDuty dome light in this afternoon when it's not 13 degrees out!). Plenty to justify a donation. Joe - you said in one of the messages "we need our own server but the funds don't permit" - what exactly do we need? I happen to have one server here and several desktop machines that I'm thinking about getting rid of... Might work something out... PM me or something. Billz4x4z 01-07-2005, 09:45 AM If ya go paid does that mean there will be porn???????? Setting up something for donations would be great.Yearly dues and stuff actually takes alot to set up then theres the tax thing,is it gonna be a nonprofit organization, theres alot to look into to make this a paid site. More sponsors is always a good thing to keep costs down also. Just my thoughts bossind 06-02-2006, 10:37 PM What do you run for a server or do you just rent the space on someones elses server? dsotmoon 06-02-2006, 10:52 PM What do you run for a server or do you just rent the space on someones elses server? FSB runs on a dedicated server located in Texas, AMD Barton 3000, 1GB RAM, 80 GB main drive, 40 GB back up drive, 1000GB bandwidth (soon to be 1500GB), 10Mbps uplink speed (may upgrade to a 100Mbps), 10GB offsite back up account, additional 10GB offsite backup account, running linux based Centos operating system bossind 06-03-2006, 10:41 AM Thanks for sharing the info, I rather enjoy the web site and feel its one of the better ones out there (software wise) It is the best bronco site out there. Looking to set up the same for our 4x4preservation site - a site dedicated to fighting lift laws and land closers. Right now its dealing with more of our own local problems but we plan to expand. Thus the questions. Thanks BigRigBronco 06-04-2006, 03:53 PM I ain't 18 yet so I can sadly not contribute to FSB. But this morning I tried to get on and couldn't for 2 hours. It just came up as saying cannot find server. JD_Bronco 06-04-2006, 07:32 PM I ain't 18 yet so I can sadly not contribute to FSB. But this morning I tried to get on and couldn't for 2 hours.
