This here is clyde at 13'000 feet in the Sangre De Christo mountains Colorado. This was July 13th, 2004 and I know I was the first to get past this snowfield to get to the top of the pass. :rockon There were no other tracks! I remember seeing over there. I thought I recognized the truck. It was disguised by the hood ornament.
Edit: I believe there to be at least 4 or 5 rigs in this that will eventually win FOTM so pass the pop corn.
Blown 01-08-2005, 07:54 PM OK, ok I am known as "Blown" not just because of the blower. I've blown a motor, t-case, tranny, the pinion out the front of the 9" dropout case, the splines right the hell off of two 9" axles, a driveline, hubs, u-joints, a red light, and the worst thing, my mind. :wacko
Hey I build it, break it and fix it myself. :thumbup Why am I defending myself, you sound like my wife, knock it off! This is all I need, quit putting thoughts in my head, I come here for props dammit! :wacko :histerica (Blown)

That sucks balls Trey... I remember checking out the whole build up, vids and all.
That rig of yours and the work you put into it are outstanding IMO and you definatly deserve FOTM to share that custom Bronco creation with the rest of the Bronco enthusiast world!
Do us all a favor and get the details and any pics you can recover on that build.
You have until the 25th... but don't let these guys run to far ahead of ya!

These pics shows TTB can rock. :rockon No problem rolling over obstacle, "Jaws". You view a plaque describing a rollover death as you pass over this obstacle. A 7 on the pucker scale (it was made safer after the accident). Narrow right turn crawl up over rocks, off-camber - you get a nice lean down hill with a clear view to the bottom, with nothing to stop you from rolling down a rockslide 100 yards to the bottom of the valley. My wife got out here, 10+ on her pucker scale.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/169549/fullsize/DSCN0231.JPG
"Jaws II" about a 2 1/2' rise over 2 1/2', off-camber, but there was a tree there to stop the roll? Comforting.......a little anyway. More comfort in the bronc. You could hike/backpack this trail as fast as you could drive it, but we had all the good stuff in the bronc not on our backs. I'd rate it a 4, difficult and TTB did it! I'd rate a 4+ as one you could hike faster than wheel and where winching is necessary.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/125040/fullsize/rockin3.jpg
Little rocks with D44 SAS: "Viva Le Difference"! I noticed a huge inprovement for crawling. Said it before though, I miss TTB for "speed in the ruff".

Bikini and old paint. She's got some class! The rest of you, show some decency, and don't run completely topless! It was a showey truck I bought used for the great shape it was in, lack of use, and 5 spd. I designed the bikini using Kaylines front bow and etc. Spare tire rack didn't hold up to 35"ers for long
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/72628/fullsize/alloff.jpg
I rattle-can painted over the bling, bling stripes, too bright, cause I put on standard doors to cut out that didn't match. Standard doors are less epensive and you don't have wires to run! I like em off completely too.

Blown 01-11-2005, 05:47 PM This was my old 84, Bessy. Bessy got scattered in the forest one day. A buck jumped out of the trees on the forest service road. I was whomping along at 45. I tried to turn slightly away and caught a rut which jerked me way over. I missed the buck but slammed an embankment which launched me barrel roll style back on the road. It was a terrifc impact hitting that embankment! I remember hitting it but didn't wake-up till I was slowly rolling down the road. It must have been a slighlty unweighted barrel roll that took about fifty feet to complete by the look of the scars in the dirt. I was picked up five minute later by some forest service guy, was home in ten, and sent a flatbed out to pic her up. Totalled! :cry I took the salvage and moved everthing over I could to the 90. The roll bar saved my head and a brand new ARB bull bar was wrecked. I should have slammed that buck! I have slowed down. This was a track in volcanic cinders with whoops, two jumps, and killer burms. A track which you jumped twice each time around and she held up! Set-up with 33X12.5 claws, 6" springs all the way around, and Rancho Arms. I did have all the easy weight of off her and cut out doors.

BigNorm 01-11-2005, 08:39 PM My vote goes to Blown this month. He's one hell of a nice guy and has done alot of cool stuff to his truck. :thumbup
BUCKIN' GA DAWG 01-11-2005, 10:24 PM Got to go with my Bro' BLAZE! Southern Born & Southern Breed! Also one DAMN FINE wheeler! Besides, anybody that use to live in Mt.Zion GA has got to be DA' MAN! Good Luck BRO' Hope to see you soon!
coldsteel1993 01-11-2005, 10:59 PM Love the rig and he's got some really cool wheelin' pics.
crawler 01-12-2005, 12:46 AM Do I need to have wheeling pics to be a contender? I have a lot of pics on things I've done but can't go wheeling because my bronco not registered and I don't have my license.
Dave's Bronc 90 01-12-2005, 01:00 AM Crawler, I love that dash. Super simple, clean lines, just like I'd want mine if I was gutting the interior to do a full on custom. :thumbup
But having said that, my heart's still in Dixie, and my votes gotta go to Blaze.:rockon I really like that one pic with the water up just under the doors. I hate to think where that water would be in my truck on 33's! Maybe this would be a good time to extend my vent lines...

BlueBronco 01-12-2005, 09:21 AM My heart will always be in Dixie. While Blaze has an excellent rig, I went with Blowns Blown SASed '90 Bronco that climbed Mt Bronca. The top 5 rigs if not more will eventually win this. Good luck to all.

Yeah my other rig is the one I beat on...I wheeled the Beast pretty hard but decided to go on a search for a dedicated trailrig before I screwed up my '95 too bad. I retired it to pavemnet pounder/head turner, and I went out and found the '94 and that's what you saw....it gets the SAS, lockers, full cage etc...

MudMad 01-13-2005, 10:52 PM Crazed you had me HELLO. Then I saw your pics, totally awesome rig. Then I had to be fair and check all of the contestants. With all of the pics it was tough. I then was going to vote for blown, as I love what he has done and he camps where I'd like to go, somewhere in the Rockies. But then there's Blaze. Totally sweet looking ride. But the clincher for me was I saw pics of Crazed w/kids in the back seat w/NO Rollcage. I'm a safety nut, and with all of the rollovers lately I just couldn't vote for the safety of kids not being upheld. It was really tough, but I had to vote for Blaze, the front windshield says it all, and of course the rear sticker is the truth. Besides, did you look at his pic. Damn, w/as ugly as he is he must need friends, so I'm trying to help you out bro. Just kidding. I'm sure that whoever doesn't win this month will win one of the months coming up. Good luck to all, and keep building the best rigs anywhere.

Blown 01-14-2005, 06:38 PM http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/135772/fullsize/DSCN0800.JPG
I cut the rear quarters up to the tailgate which take out much of the heavy corner post, gave away the stock bumper, welded up the bumper out of 2X2X1/4", the gas tank skid is doubled. two stock skids, 1/8" plate sides, framed in angle which is bolted up to the bumper so as to slide off stuff. I bought Smittybuilts roll bar and cage kit and added the rear most bar which I bent myself. I bent it too wide and still need to sleeve where I cut it and rewelded it. You can't see all of the drop hitch but it doubles as a step, keeps pesky ricers out from under, and is removable for the trail. The receiver is 2X2 square gusseted and welded between the frame rails. Notice the shackle flip and beefed shackles. And finally the Ridgerunners sticker! Out website is here: http://www.ridgerunners4x4.com/
The pic below shows the hitch and bling bling exhaust tip. The tip is 1/2 a glass pack I C-clamped on to reduce sound around town and push the exhaust away. Two nuts loosened and it's off for the trail. The tail gate is gutted and cut out on the inside, saving 80lbs. The rear window is tinted lexan siliconed in the shell and clamped to the tailgate. The soft top goes on spring through fall, saving another 120lbs. The shell is only for winter.

I wanted lower F'n gearing The Atlas II 3.8:1 was my choice as the 1356 was acting-up. I actually had to have the rear driveline lengthened rather than shortened as with a Klune or two t-cases. Now I have a gear driven, bullet proof t-case.

Blaze 01-15-2005, 03:08 PM Well Blaze i guess our trucks ant Sh*t
Did we ever claim they were??? :toothless
BlueBronco 01-15-2005, 03:12 PM What else you got there to impress me with blown? :shrug
How did you miss the SAS, Beard seats, cage, bikini top, and cutout doors?
DESTROYER 01-15-2005, 05:23 PM Well Blaze i guess our trucks ant Sh*t
I wasn't applying to you or blaze or any one specifically for that mater, all I was saying is that you see bad a$$ truck all the time huge lift huge tires, then when you take a closer look it has little axles, little motor, and it can barely move the truck, let alone wheel it. I see it alot where I'm from especially with the jeeps, But you and everybody else on there has a pretty stout drive train (built ford tough) But Blowns is pretty much bullet prof, He has what most of us could only dream of having. Anyway if I offended you I'm sorry.
And if it counts my second chose would have been you or blaze. :rockon
jackhart 01-15-2005, 08:22 PM i know which direction i'm leaning, but i still need a few more pix before i make up my mind for sure... :thumbup
Blown 01-15-2005, 08:36 PM Thanks Destroyer! Weak link is the Dana 44, but I got plans there if I start busting it regularly and I want to go with 39.5's.

I'll keep posting up. I enjoy working on it as much as wheeling it. This is my "one thing" that I blow on. I afford it by driving a 91 Exploder most of the time. I work on both the bronc and exploder to maintain them and it saves me cash.
Crazed 01-15-2005, 10:24 PM Anyway if I offended you I'm sorry.
Hey no biggie man...just seems alot of people are pretty negative lately, not just in this thread but all over the place..

BlancoBronco 01-16-2005, 04:05 AM How did you miss the SAS, Beard seats, cage, bikini top, and cutout doors?
I not going to say anything negitive about any of this months contestants because They are all pretty cool....
But I'm a TTB guy :wacko , So the SAS does nothing for me!
& I like my cage better!
That bikini top is pretty cool :rockon
& yes I will probably one day buy seats kinda like those.... :thumbup
& oh yeah ....How did I forget about the doors! :rockon
I was just wondering if there was some stuff I hav'nt seen like his transfer case thats cool!
& That new rear axle is so SAWEEET!
& his skid plates look great..I dont remember seeing those before. :clap
& I dont know who built his engine for him, But those parts are probably some of the best on any of the FSB guys rigs.
But i gotta ask you "blown"
Did you port those parts your self?
I spent many years porting & polishing cylinder heads & etc
During my 1st career as a custom engine machinist.

Blown 01-16-2005, 10:23 AM BlancoBronc: I was very lucky to find that Edlebrock manifold on E-bay. All I opened up was at the throttle body, everthing else matched! It came with the phenolicspacer. It was needed to clear the fuel regulator and PCV.

Hmm..I'm torn between voting for one of mah boys - Crazed or Blaze - or voting for someone new like Blown or CaLisa the girlie.
Decisions Decisions. :toothless
BlueBronco 01-16-2005, 01:21 PM I not going to say anything negitive about any of this months contestants because They are all pretty cool....
:thumbup There are several very good Broncos in this thing.
But I'm a TTB guy :wacko , So the SAS does nothing for me!
The axle shafts in your bling bling ttb won't do anything for you either.
& I like my cage better!
I always give the advantage in voting tie breaker to the guy who does his own work. Blown lifted his ttb himself, did his own SAS, supercharge, engine buildup, and rear axle stuff, not to mention the tcase install, the doors, the bikini top.
That's my logic in picking Blowns rig this month. I definately have a lot of respect for what Trey did with that rig as well as Blaze, Crazed, Built4Wheelin, and the young pup Crawler. I think all these guys and gals will eventually win this thing. :rockon
Edit: I like to visualize a head to head of the contestants in these things taking into account the rig, the builder, the driver, and the demeanor of the driver rig combination. :drinkbud

trey aka superbronco 01-17-2005, 09:47 AM Well I voted for Blown.. Because that engine is bad ass..
Was going to Vote for the SuperBronco. But after seeing the guy sitting next to the winch while in use, and an open cab. I decided againsted. Very Dangarous, I hope you have something to block that cable from killing everyone in the truck if it breaks.
I've got got several safeguards that I've built into my winch system that you don't have with an electric; 1) I have a bypass valve which relieves at 2500 psi (this is also monitored by a gauge mounted in cab), which is 8000lb max pull on this winch. 2) I am running 3/8" cable (inspected, tested, and rewound after each outing) which has a rating of 15500 lbs. (almost 2x the pull that the system bypasses at, and 1/3x stronger than the 9800 lb rating of the 5/16 cable used on most 8k winches). The strap used around the tree is also an industrial unit rated to match the pulls generated by the winch. I probably should have layed jacket or something over the line that would take it to the ground in the unlikely event of a failure, but I work daily with cranes winches and loads far greater than this and am well versed in safe rigging practices and capacities for a given system. 3) Notice that only personnel required for the extraction are nearby, all bystanders have been moved a safe distance away.
My rig has been highly modified through-out, my primarily design goal is for recovery and extraction work, safety being the fore-most priority and equipment capability and reliability being second, hence the 3/4 ton frame and running gear. This having been said, no hard feelings; Blaze, Blown, Crazed, and the other nominees are outstanding rigs in their own right! I sure could have used and would have greatly appreciated your vote though! :twak :rebelflag
Blaze 01-17-2005, 12:13 PM Yeah, so, throw a coat over it next time..:shrug Ya got my vote!
I love that rig, and I'm sure all of us have slipped up here and there, I can't make a judgement about someones safe practices from one picture.....:beer

Bronco85 01-17-2005, 04:02 PM Trey, It's nice to hear that you have safe guards in place. But still Shit happens. I hear to many stories about cables breaking and stuff to screw around with them.. Watching a Cable Break and what it does to a tree that it hit, was pretty cool. But if that was a person we would have been carrrying out 2 halfs of a person...
Your truck is badass for sure.. Would love to have somthing like that, maybe some day.

I've had a washer and dryer back there, Loads of lumber including 8 railroad ties, Sand, cinders, slept back there, cooked back there, H2O heater, The "Wee little people" play racket ball back there and Overflow crapola from jeeps on numerous trips including trash everyone else did not have room to carry out!
Seems you can only get so much in a heep and only "strap on" so much stuff on the outside and we, being full size don't need to strap on anything! :thumbup :histerica It's great to be fullsized!
Note the fine rear window retention device (two C-clamps and stick of Oak).

trey aka superbronco 01-17-2005, 10:21 PM Trey, It's nice to hear that you have safe guards in place. But still Shit happens. I hear to many stories about cables breaking and stuff to screw around with them.. Watching a Cable Break and what it does to a tree that it hit, was pretty cool. But if that was a person we would have been carrrying out 2 halfs of a person...Your truck is badass for sure.. Would love to have something like that, maybe some day.
Hey Bronco 85, first off, Thanks!, I appreciate the compliment. Secondly, is it OK to assume that you mistakenly made your comment without having enough information on the situation at hand. I have seen cables broken, chains too. That's what we were using in the early 80's (about the time you were born!) before straps became popular. In almost every case each was being used either improperly, or above it's rated capacity, or the equipment had been neglected. That doesn't mean these can't be used safely, you just need to know a little bit about what you are intending to accomplish and what tools you 'll need for the job. In the 20+ years since that time I've learned a lot about using this stuff properly.
Shit happens? That's not really that common, it's usually tracable to something that someone's overlooked or short-cutted to save time or money. I haven't spared any cost for my system, in fact I could have easily bought several top of the line electric winchs for what it cost, except it would not have performed in the manner that I desired. In my work, I'm required to evaluate and approve lifts plans for equipment ranging from several hundred pounds to some that exceed 100,000 pounds. (The largest to date has been a compressor lid that weighed 67 tons, and after lifting it we had to flip it over!) We load test the crane, slings and every piece of rigging to be used before we ever start, and each is over-rated for the task that it is going to be used for. I used this same philosophy in the design and use of my winch!
trey aka superbronco 01-17-2005, 10:26 PM You are right in questioning someone or equipment that you aren't familiar with, but ask the right questions before you start making assumptions, you might be surprised what you can learn.
That having been said and my blood pressure starting to come back down out of the red zone, if any of the mods think I've over-stepped my bounds, I'll gladly keep my opinions to myself from this point out. :brownbag :shrug
Hey Trey, I was wondering if you added any support to the back of the Bko since you're running without a tailgate? Don't the sides wanna flex too much?
trey aka superbronco 01-17-2005, 11:34 PM not too much of a problem yet, the frame is pretty stiff from the modifications I've made and the old fifth wheel trailer mount which is still in place as well.

Burl Swift 01-19-2005, 01:41 PM Hey...my dogs are a big part of my life and who i am.
No need to explain yourself Crazed, anyone who has a dog knows exactly what you're talking about.
KillerRanger 01-19-2005, 02:20 PM Oh there never was dude...:thumbup
I just wanted you to know I wasn't some young, dumb web wheeler...I'm an old, dumb, RL wheeler that is usualy the one in the group who says "hold my beer and watch this!... I can do this , I'll just...oh shit!...can someone give me a tug"??!!!!) :histerica
P.S. Disclaimer: no I don't drink on the trail...the "hold my beer and watch this" is a redneck figure of speech! (although I do keep plenty of Anhieser Bush's stock holders VERY happy once I get back to camp!! :drinkbud)
No doubt.. It's obvious you used to wheel it. But now in my eyes it's a glorified overly expensive to maintain car now that you retired it :D
don't mind me, I just don't respect my vehicle's sheet metal, thats all.. :D
