MatthewC 02-11-2005, 01:39 PM As far as I know, the legal age for most of Canada is 19, with the exception of Quebec where it is 18. Have fun!

bigric 02-11-2005, 03:33 PM IIRC from when I was up there it depends on the province. Crystal and I were 20 and never got carded if that helps.
bronco1 02-11-2005, 09:26 PM 19 in British Columbia.
But the age of consent is only 14 now? :wacko

Always has been Marv as long as I can remember. The saying up here was always "13 will get you 20"(years that is).
I'm pretty sure there's still Southern states that can marry them off even earlier than that right ?
We won't let you marry one at that age but you can date em', though the cops would take a special interest in guys our ages doing that.
I asked, when I was a teenager, and an older person said it was done in the 60s to stop older teenage boys from getting tossed in jail (and getting plenty of non-consensual sex from older inmates) just for having consensual sex with their slightly younger girlfriends.
I do remember a slew of 15 year olds (when I was that age) dating and moving in with 35 year olds. But lo and behold ! by the time I reached 35 societal norms had shifted yet again, preventing me from doing the same (if I even could have/would have).
The year I was about to turn 18 they jacked the drinking age to 19 in Ontario. Other provinces, with the exception of Quebec (as Matt already pointed out) followed suit over the next 20 odd years.
I couldn't have cared less as I had been buying beer and al-key-haul fer years before that in liquor and beer stores and bars.
That was the 70s and(to quote a Charlie Daniels song); with all the long haired hippy type pinko #@gs (like we all looked like at the time) running around it was impossible to tell anyones age between 14 and 35.
I looked 35 for over 15 years, according to my friends, from about ages 23 to 40. Rapid hair recession and weight shift is taking care of that problem very nicely now though.

p.s./
5.0 Bronco : Be careful sucking down our suds. An awful lot of my American friends who've come to visit have gotten $h!tfaced a whole lot faster than they bargained for on our beers. Steer clear of any of the more potent part type beers that can run over 8%.
BigNorm 02-13-2005, 09:34 PM Wow. You must be ancient Six! :thumbup

Whos BillW?
I went to Winnipeg my first year of college, I was 19 at the time.
I didn't really have to use my ID on some occasions.
We had to leave the rest of the beer in the hotel room as we couldn't take it back across the border.
We also go fishing in Lac Seul, Ontario, I know the drinking ages in both places are.
I'm 22 now so I don't really need to go to Canada just to drink anymore.

I was always told by friends who attended AA that BillW was code for something related to Alcoholics Anonomous (maybe the inventor?).
Heaven knows there were times in the 70s, 80s and 90s when I probably should have gone, but I never did go. Back pain and not being able to mix the medications with alcohol finally got me off the hooch in 2000 for good, without the help of BillW.
Not everyone is as lucky and there's no shame in seeking help.

BigNorm 02-15-2005, 09:07 PM Help! I've fallen and I can't reach my beer! :drinkbud
Do your abdominals Six! It helped me with my back quite a bit. That and I stretch when I wake up and before I go to bed. It's become a routine. Damn! I'm sounding like a geezer!

It's been several thousand beers since I've seen my "abs" . Good advice though, I do use the big blue exercise ball to stretch on (I get my best creaks and pops on that!).
Sounds like you're well on your way to geezerdom ! My little massage therapist has herself convinced she's on her way to hagdom but she's worrying over nothing IMO.
I'm just glad she doesn't charge by the acre. Several times she's threatened to get the receptionist and a hamper and have a picnic on my back.

Never used to be a problem
mind you I was in bars at 15 in the 70s, no questions asked. Just get some kind of British I.D. made up that you can alter easily. No Canadian's going to know if it ain't quite right.
If they give you a hassle wanting to see a driver's license lay a guilt trip on them and tell them most people in the UK "dinna" drive ya burke !

MatthewC 03-09-2005, 04:58 PM If your going to Vancouver, there are a couple of bars you should check out. They are both on Granville street, one is called Foghorns (you cant miss it), the other is across the street and is called The Planet. The planet is a dance club that is dressy and full of the beautiful people, Foghorns has 100 year old hardwood floors covered in 3 inches of peanut shells. They are owned by french brothers. I worked with the third brother a few years ago and he hooked me up with them when I went out there. Awesome time.
Stay away from gas-town.
EvilBronc 03-21-2005, 08:10 AM ya bud, they card people all the time. You need to produce 2 pieces of ID

I don't know of a province, or territory, that is 21. As far as I know we're all 18 or 19, except Quebec, where (French Canadian accent)"the age of majority is just a suggestion !"(French Canadian accent ended).
