View Full Version : axle 1" forward and steering ???
Chris85xlt 07-02-2003, 08:47 PM those who did a SAS on their bronco... did u relocated the axle 1" more forward then where it once was with the TTB? i'm looking at mine right now (middle of the SAS) and seems like if my axle travels up like it was under compression, it would be REAL close to hitting the engine crossmember. maybe has 1/4"-1/2" before hitting.
i measured out exactly 106" WB and its in the same location as where my TTB wheels once was since i moved it 1" forward when i did the TTB lift.
am i being paranoid  or it should all be fine since i think most of u guys moved the axle 1" forward.
also about my steering... i have a 4" drop pitman arm. i will have about 6-7" of suspension lift. i was thinking of doing a steering rod over the knuckle mod once i get my steering rods from a certain person. should i do the knuckle over mod or just leave it? to me if i did a knuckle over it looks like the center link and drag link would hit each other from flexing or real close of hitting, are then known to hit each other?
thanks for ur replies
Chris
plug ugly 07-02-2003, 08:53 PM push the coil buckets as far forward as you can. Most have needed xmember mods, but mostly for the track bar clearance
yes, definately go steering over with 1 tom Chevy TRE's or heims with the dom tubing. Very strong stuff and about 2" gain in steering clearance
Chris85xlt 07-02-2003, 10:33 PM o yeah i forgot to mention that i'm using TTB upper coil mount and TTB 6" coils. i'm just going to fab up new lower coil mounts and shock mounts.
Dustin 07-02-2003, 10:35 PM yeah move the buckets all the way forward, somehow mine didnt get moved all the way so its only about 1/2 from the ttb centerline. I havent had any issues with the tierod hitting the drag link at all.
If your needing these steering links real quick I can get you the measurements to built your own or hook you up with someone that will built them
plug ugly 07-03-2003, 01:28 AM I dont think he can move his buckets forward. You would be better served with the older buckets and f250/350 shock towers
Dustin 07-03-2003, 02:14 AM oh ok your using the ttb buckets....I must have posted that at the same time, I didnt see he was using the ttb stuff.

Chris85xlt 07-04-2003, 01:13 AM its almost done.

Is Scott still interested in building DOMs and selling them. I dont wanna jump the gun on everything, but eventually ill need em.
plug ugly 07-08-2003, 01:44 PM there are lots of places that make them, maybe not as cheap as Scott, but I am guessing he is busy since he is MIA lately
81Bronk36 07-08-2003, 03:17 PM thats alright, im sure he will be back before I do an SAS.. i still gotta get the 6" TTB under there first lol. Maybe put a few miles on here this year too.
Dustin 07-08-2003, 11:41 PM Im not sure on what he is planning on doing, but I know he is trying to get started in fabbing some of this stuff up so he can sell it. I was just over at his new house last week and its still a mess, we had to dig through piles of crap to find a tool we were looking for. he hasent even touched his bronco much since he went MIA and hasent even had the time to wheel it.
I also think we are going to do somthing a little differernt like sleave the dom withanother piece of dom, but not sure if it will clear where the drag links connets to the tierod, I disnt have time to mess with it when i replaced mine. they need a little extra beef when running head on with huge ass bolders
I know rock stomper sells them I think. really dom is not that cheap...I think its like 150bucks for 10 or 20 feet?? cant remember now, and tapping its a pita. We had a guy we know with a lathe tap mine.
dblue351 07-09-2003, 12:00 AM I dont think you are going to be able to move it forward with the TTB buckets.
Cut the crap out of the crossmember it can take it. You have the winch front bumper to hold the frame apart still. They a just a little stronger than the stock bumper up there!
Chris85xlt 07-09-2003, 10:45 PM just an update... -ok i fabbed up new radius arm brackets and now the axle is in the correct place.
-the motor crossmember looks like it needs to wacked away since it comes REAL close to or hitting the diff cover.
-i just installed the coils and it bows just a bit but its liveable. i can fix it later.
-i gained about 8" of lift on the passenger side and 7.5" of lift on the driver side over stock height. thats with 1" body lift on. fyi- the left and right side TTB lower coil mount are not the same height.
-caster is at 4.5 degrees
so far so good :)
o and the Superlift trac bar looks a bit too long so i decided to return it and get a custom heim jointed trac bar.
the steering rods... i found someone who can do it for me
later
Chris
Damager 07-09-2003, 11:20 PM sounds like it's coming together, but ya gotta get us PICS Bro :toothless
Chris85xlt 07-09-2003, 11:39 PM ....ya gotta get us PICS Bro
why? :D
i think i'll just surprise everyone when i'm done :goodfinge
EvilBronc 07-10-2003, 02:34 AM We tried to use the ttb buckets on my swap but it just wasn't going to work. Scraped that idea and went and got some 78/79 Bronco buckets and F250 shock mounts:thumbup
jtp1201 07-14-2004, 11:51 PM hi guys there are alot of debates about the ttb spring towers and earlier model buckets, i dont have the capabilities of fabing anything, so i need to use one or the other, i just want the max lift i can get i have a tuff country 4in lift already but i want more any advice?
SquattyD 07-15-2004, 12:49 AM use 78 upper buckets, 78 lower retainers, and JBG superflex 6" springs for a 78
and search
Stomper4x4 07-15-2004, 02:13 AM :stupid
Thatsa what I'ma doin'. Next month too! Only took almost a year to get to it.
