trey aka superbronco 06-08-2005, 12:01 AM Sorry but I had a computer crash (nasty virus!) and I finally bought a new one. I'm probably going to bow out of this FOTM, I don't have time with baseball going on. Good luck to everyone! :rebelflag
plug ugly 06-08-2005, 12:16 AM Hey all, I just realized this is going on and I got nominated. I appreciate the nomination, but am still working frantically on this thing so i can make it to the rubicon at the end of the month. As a result, I am going to bow out this month. Not much to post as far as pics are concerned, and there are some awesome rigs in the running, so it should be a good month.
I should have some good real world test pics next month, right now its all just mods and installs, which wouldnt be too exciting.
thanks again for the nod, maybe next month or the month after if you felt like it again. Sorry
81Bronk36 06-08-2005, 01:19 AM Boo to both of ya :wacko

BigNorm 06-08-2005, 01:30 PM I'm observing an evolution here. Coils to leafs. Use what works! :chili: Nice rigs guys. Keep postin the pics. Spread them out. I'll be making my decision in a couple weeks based on the rigs functionality and who wants it the most.
Could you guys post up some close ups of your bumpstops? I'm looking for ideas myself and hell it could be a vote in your favor. I'm shameless in my pursuit of information. lol.
PowerB 06-08-2005, 01:38 PM I put my vote in...
FordFilly 06-08-2005, 03:32 PM Anyone willing to show some rear end shots, and not of the Bronco either. Hee Hee! What, you think I'm kidding?

dogonmut 06-08-2005, 05:24 PM Lower Hellderado in Oct. of 2003 with 2BB. I was running a 78 Dana 44 front and a 10.25 rear with 4.56's and Lock Rights in both. The tires were 35/15.50/16.5 TSL SX's on 16.5 x 10 bead locks. The front suspension was stock 78 ratius arms with 6" Superlift coils. The rear was 4.5" custom springs and a stock F250 1.625" lift block. This is just after I finished the front bumper.
Wow...memories...

:stupid
The evolution of that rig shows the huge amount of time and effort into building it to it's highest potential. Impressive.
81Bronk36 06-09-2005, 12:27 AM Not to mention the fact that those are bad azz action shots :rockon
Coming from a guy who's probably never lifted a tire :duh
84x4bronco 06-09-2005, 06:30 AM you should have been there to watch the new body damage on the pass. side happen. :toothless it was a great time, lol. scott really has done a great job on that bronco, and watching it is ten times better than what these pictures do for it. it is truly unstopppable. VOTE DOGONMUT. :rockon
MikE2 06-09-2005, 11:11 AM muddinmike's truck has flames, Scott's does not.........................
VOTE MUDDINMIKE
Gub_Ni 06-09-2005, 12:08 PM You go Mike! Got my vote. You still need that trim?
BigNorm 06-09-2005, 12:16 PM Flames don't do it. ACTION does. :thumbup
dogonmut 06-09-2005, 03:10 PM Thanks all for the support!!!
I'm really happy and amazed at how well the rig does. It's taken years to get it to the point it's at today. It may not be pretty any more (or have flames) but it works really, really well.
Here's some older pic's from late 02. This is the first trail run after I did the first SAS. I was still running an 8.8 out back. At this point they were still geared 3.55 but they did have Lock Rights in each.
...check out the radial tires. They were a set from the first batch of the, then new, Pro Comp MT's 35/12.50/15.
These are from the Coke Oven, Box Canyon and Woodpecker Trails in Florance, AZ.

I actually took the by-pass around Fire Hole...It was just a strait ledge then.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/92360/fullsize/IMG_0631.JPG
Look at that shinny newly rebuilt 78 Dana 44.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/92361/fullsize/IMG_0632.JPG
I think Beer Man's now sporting that front bumper...my god it's a heavy chunck of steel.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/92365/fullsize/IMG_0635.JPG
For those of you that are familure with the Woodpecker trail that's the tree on the turn that almost takes out your window and roof. I could actually fit under it then...and yes we are running the trail backwards at this point from the Coke Ovens.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/92366/fullsize/IMG_0664.JPG
Much steeper then it looks and the rock here are nasty and sharp...ask Rjonn.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/92367/fullsize/IMG_0667.JPG
The hard side at the drop in to Box Canyon was easy then.

http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/92348/fullsize/IMG_0588.JPG
...but now the games a little different at the Fire Hole obsticle. No more by-pass for me.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/192771/fullsize/DSCN2020.JPG
Also...
I can't put on flames...it wouldn't match the tow rig then...DUH!!!

JoeBob1901 06-09-2005, 03:44 PM Hey scott...you do know you coulda saved like 4grand if you had went to a leafsprung 60 and 10.25 in the first place right :goodfinge
Nice evolution...do you regret not going to 10.25/leafsprung 60 geared/locked the first time around?
Dustin 06-09-2005, 04:00 PM wow it been along time since you havent had any body damage
see i learned from all scotts axle setups, I can skip few when i go 60 when i can find one that dosent cost me 2 arms and a leg. It will only take me 3 times to get it right :goodfinge
TTBlows 06-09-2005, 04:11 PM I had no idea I was in the running. I'll accept but I won't pimp 'cause I don't really want to win..........so give your vote to someone who actually wants this, they deserve it.
I voted for Dogonmut 'cause he's ugly AND stupid. He's the whole package ;) Oh, and he's in love w the cactus in his front yard.
dogonmut 06-09-2005, 04:56 PM Hey scott...you do know you coulda saved like 4grand if you had went to a leafsprung 60 and 10.25 in the first place right :goodfinge

No regrets. Live and learn.

plug ugly 06-09-2005, 05:23 PM lots of good rigs, but I have to give the nod to KL, just because he doesnt want to win, and has helped countless people out with different mods, including but not limited to, shackle flips and leaf sprung front axle swaps. PLus, his is uglier than scott is ( I mean scotts rig)

BigNorm 06-09-2005, 09:49 PM I voted for Keith as well. (Hmmm the I don't want to win strategy works well) I know I said action but in this case it's actions. Keith has helped me and others imensely in our projects. He had the balls to try things out and took the chances with his leaf SAS which is one of the biggest templates used here now. Without him I doubt I'd have even tried my own SAS. Thanx Keith! :beer

because, despite his "backrow of the class attitude", he has helped lots of people, typically offers sound advice, does a lot/all of his own and others fab work, and that bronco has come a LONG way since this all started. plus, hes already been in one mag, and needs to be in another. PLus, I want to see what kind of crap hell write up about his bronco (though i doubt he will do it) Maybe Tonya(sp?) will, I heard she has the looks, personality and brains of that outfit anyways. :goodfinge

Dustin 06-11-2005, 01:08 AM Explain this pic to me, because it doesn't look that steep. And why is he lowering you down the rock? was this after you broke the link?
that picture dosent do that hill justice, it is very very steep. the tires will bark in some places driving up. Thats on the way out after rigging up scotts rig to get it to the trailer. the axle is sitting on the bump stops held in place with several ratchet straps and a winch cable. bassically scott had very very little control over his bronco due the axle on the brink of falling out of the truck all together. everytime he would hit the break the axle would want to roll under the bronco resulting in loss of steering. the dodge is acting as scotts brakes, if you look close you can see the back of the tow truck that we had to hire to which the bronco up some very long climbs and tow it the rest of the way out
Dustin 06-11-2005, 01:10 AM this is the rigging we had to do to hold the axle in the truck.

yeah that was a pretty scary day, we got lucky everything went as well as it did. That had to be the worst/hardest recovery that we have ever had to do, I dont think getting erics rig out of martienez canyon could top that. what was it 12hours of recovery or something??

Here's some pic's from the Raw Deal trail off Table Mesa Road just North of Phoenix. This run was 12/27/03. My parents were in town for the holiday's so we decieded to take my dad out to show him what wheelin' was all about.

This is the enterance to the upper portion of the trail. It's tight.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/99982/fullsize/Me_004_upper%20(Custom).jpg
It's actually narrower then a full size rig. Basicly you have to drag your way threw.

Getting positioned for an emediate left turn that has to be made coming out of the sluse-like enterence.

You have about 20 feet to get lined up for the final obsticle. The area is a mine field of basket ball size and larger rocks that tend to jump up and grab you by the pumpkin, the tie rod, the wheels or any thing else they want too. This is the part of the trail that threw the "death blow" that killed my ttb for the final time.

This is the final obsticle. It's a 12' waterfall. You have to be lined up just right or you can get thrown off backwards. It's pretty challenging for a FSB due to the wheel base and the wigth.

dogonmut 06-13-2005, 07:08 PM Here's some pic's from the 1/1/4 New Year's Day "Hang Over" run. We started off in Lower Sycamore Creek and came out threw Dry Wash via The Devil's Anus Trail. This part of Sycamore Creek is between Fountain Hills and Sunflower, AZ.
The trail was alot different then it is now, thanks to the rains we had this spring. IMO it hasn't gotten any easier or any harder now a days but...you can pretty much count on body damage now.
We started the run with 6 rigs but only 3 of us went threw Devils Anus. The others found a by-pass after watching Bud (Ram 2500), Doug (F250 Stupid Duty) and myself twist turn and bank off the rocks.
The group.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/100465/fullsize/group.jpg
Getting ready to drop into Devil's Anus. This is very, very, very steep, on loose crumbling dirt and there's a 4' drop just in front of me. Pucker facker 12 million.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/100470/fullsize/me_001.jpg
This just after you drop in. Looks like no big deal but you have to turn left to avoid the wall which in turn lifts the drivers side rear tire high enough to lift the drivers side front and you become a 3 wheeler.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/100471/fullsize/me_002.jpg
The whole 2/3 mile Devil's Anus spur trail is one long sluse. It's filled with lots and lots of loose rocks. The small ones are the size of a basketball and the large one's are the size of a Yugo. Lots of fun.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/100472/fullsize/me_003.jpg
This is a tight turn. I had to bank off the rock with the bumper.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/100473/fullsize/me_004.jpg
This is the final ledge out when running DA in this direction. The trick here is not to slip off the shelf sidways and land on your side with that big boulder sticking in the passenger side door.

Pretty decent horns. they sound identical to the Nathan KL3A's at about 1/3 the price
I have 2 sets of those on a truck at the ranch and they sound WAY better if you take the electric solenoid off and run them with a mechanical valve instead. There a lot louder and you can feather them on and off.

Actually that K5 is really nice. It's set up pretty well. The biggest issue is the driver. He's a nice enough guy but he's kind-a scared to scratch the paint...and the paint's not that nice. You'd think people would learn not to wheel with me if they worry about things like that. :shrug

muddinmike 06-19-2005, 03:42 PM Everybody hold your votes. Im gonna make a comeback here. I went to the local mud bog tuff truck show and roasted up some 42's and fully aired out the bronk gimmie a day to get the video up :thumbup
dogonmut 06-19-2005, 08:24 PM Here's pic's from today. Bud and I went out to the Florance area and found a cool trail. We don't know the name of it but I'm lookin' into it.
The trail is difficult to say the least. We only ran the first several obsticles because Bud's truck broke a Dana 60 stub shaft. He had a spare but it booggered up the spindle as well and he didn't have a spare Dynatrac spindle. He did say he will be buying 2 when he places the order. Bud also managed to dent up his rear drive shaft as well. Spendy day for him.
Man was it hot!!! 105 degrees and not a drop of shade to be found.
Here's some pic's of me. They are cut off a cam-corder so they're not the best but I'll have a new video of the run out soon.

is that the wash just east of where you turn in to go up woodpecker?
It's the wash at the end of Woodpecker but we turned left instead of going right back tword the trail head. It was really killer. I can't wait to go back and do more of it. I'll have video up soon. You'll be able to hear the sound of a Dynatrac Dana 60 shaft snapping. We had to winch Bud the rest of they threw the obsticle and work him out. Even 3 wheel drive couldn't get him out under his own power.
scott, your front wheels just dont look right in those pics, impressive articulation
Thanks. I'm still having bump stop and shock length issues. I'm going to have to go to 16" travel shocks and reinvent a way to keep my bump stops from shreding.
...poor Bud though. Today was pretty hard on his wallet. He popped a Dynatrac stub shaft, a Dynatrac spindle, Warn hub, he'll need to re-tube his rear drive shaft and he's gonna need new bearings too cuz they got packed full of metal shards and he had to drive home on them. I just toasted a bump stop and slightly "tweeked" my tie rod due to hammering it into a few rocks...a few dozen times. :brownbag

It has yet to be determined if he broke the inner shaft but the outter shaft is toast as well as the hub and spindle. It was a 30 spline Dynatrac alloy stub.
Here's more pimpin' from a trip to the Woodpecker trail on 3/26/05 when Mike Masse and Dave Young were out for a visit. This is the trip I fell into Fire Hole for the first time.
