Ironclad 07-07-2005, 08:18 PM Here's a teazer to get started...
This is my 3rd Bronco.
Its been a labor of love getting it from what it was when I first bought it to what is is now. I've got a lot of blood, sweat, and money invested and its been worth every scrape, cut, and dollar. ....well mostly. :brownbag
I don't live in an area where we have majestic mountains to climb. In fact it's pretty darn flat around here. So most of my off roading is in the mud.
I like mud... :thumbup
Don't have a ton of pics of me wheeling because I seem to be the guy behind the camera most of the time, but I'll post what I've got and get more when I can.
Here's a compiled pic of my Bronco since I've bought it. Details and mo' pics to follow.

84x4bronco 07-08-2005, 12:01 AM Well, here's how my bronco started. i bought it cheap, and it barely ran with its 2bbl setup and stock exhaust.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/200075/fullsize/DSCN0752.JPG
it actually had a visor, super dry rotted 35 inch BFG's, was gloss black with enough rust to call it a true two tone paintjob and enough leaks to call it three different trucks. it started on a 4 inch lift with a three inch body lift.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/200060/fullsize/DSCN0728.JPG
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/200073/fullsize/DSCN0738.JPG
i used to have aton of pics from around this time, but my computer crashed about a year and a half ago. i used to tear the crap out of that thing too. :toothless
Dr.Dirty 07-08-2005, 12:08 AM i had a ton but my wife decided that there was to many pics on the memory card so she erased it before i transfered them and now i am in the desert not much foe mud here but ill se if i can dig up som of the old ones
84x4bronco 07-08-2005, 12:13 AM then came the long tube headers, independent dual exhaust, flowmaster 40 series, dual plane intake manifold, and quadrapuke carb. i must say i was happy with the improvement! :rockon

90Beater 07-08-2005, 02:31 AM http://bronco.tophersworld.com/images/vote_camo.gif
The Beater is here pimping for a few votes. I bought my Bronco a little over a year ago and wanted a project Bronco. I started by getting a cheap 1990 Bronco. I wasn't worried how the body looked but wanted something cheap that I could build up and I wanted a 351. I brought home this EB that ran great and most everything worked but I don't think there was a body panel that wasn't scratched, bent or dented, Bumpers included.
http://bronco.tophersworld.com/images/bronco_old.jpg
My Mods include: Superlift full 4” lift with brake lines then I added a Sky Shackle flip in the rear so I upgraded the front to 6” lift coils to match, the Camo Paint, 33”x13.5”x15” Super Swampers, Warn Premium Manual Hub locks, I installed a FlowMaster Super 40 muffler and made a custom outflow over the frame and out the side.
I have replaced the front wheel bearings and brake pads, the rear drive shaft, the front drive shaft u-joints, the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coil. Replaced the Valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket, cleaned the oil pickup tube, fixed the seat brackets. I added a mount for a Hi-lift Jack to the spare tire mount. Added a CB.
I still have more in store for the Beater to come. I have four off road lights to install once I buy a roof rack, shorty headers to install after my next smog check. An air horn. Once I get a bender I will add sliders, rollbar that will be better than Bronkzillas (top secret, I won’t give it away just yet).
Around that time I started looking at all the incredible Broncos on this site Joined the Forums and the addiction began. Here a few pics from yesterday.

He's the Only one to show his true Support for OUR TROOPs by Painting his Rig in military Camo!!
Not to mention its BAD ASS!!
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/222131/fullsize/IMG_1353.JPG
BigNorm 07-08-2005, 05:09 AM I spent 8 years in the US Army as an infantryman. 4 were active in where I jumped out of an airplane as part of my daily job. Not knockin' the paint mind you. If you really want to support the troops then send them care packages. As we speak I garantee you they are sweating there balls off over there. It sucks and it's not any fun. They do it because they are told to. They are soldiers. That's what soldiers do.
90Beater 07-08-2005, 05:33 AM Bignorm I agree with you. Blanco is helping me out but I did the camo just for looks. Everyone, please help out the guys overseas any way you can. I have tried to make their lives beter a little bit by taking every magazine I have and there are many by sending them through my work to Iraq/Afghanistan to keep the guys from going stir crazy. I hope it helps.
I was going to send SrAtex a care package since I know him from FSB but by the time I emailed him he was on his way back. I still feel like sending annonomous packs but I'm not sure how. SrAtex, any advice?
84x4bronco 07-08-2005, 08:36 AM continuation of my bronco's evolution... 80 hours worth of bodywork! every panel had some kind of fat dent or something on it, and i sure as hell wanted to pick up the ladies in it as well as wheel it :toothless , so into my uncle's body shop it went.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/152405/fullsize/DSCN1261.JPG

http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/152410/fullsize/DSCN1288.JPG
then it came out of the shop, and it was time for some paint! sunset orange pearlescent was my choice. i also added the classic bronco emblems if you havent noticed:
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/152411/fullsize/DSCN1301.JPG
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/152413/fullsize/DSCN1295.JPG
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/152414/fullsize/DSCN1302.JPG
at this time, here's what i did.
- new xtreme alloy rims
- new front clip
- new taillights
- new windshield
- tow hooks
- new auxillary lights
- new shell
- new hood
- new cowl
- new emblems
- new rear view mirror
- new rearward wiring harness
not too bad for a 17 year old kid (at the time). i learned how to do my own bodywork while i helped my uncle. now im good at the spot welding, strategic dent pulling, fine shaping, priming, surface prep, and bondo slinging where necessary. i saved for 7 months to get this job done... :wacko
VOTE for ME!

We need to finally have someone from VA win this thing, not to mention an upstanding citizen such as himself. I've witnessed many a times myself his willingness to help out others, as evidence by mine be the red Bronco in the ditch. I couldn't think of a better person to hold the title. :beer

Oh yeah... the color. Well its a long story. But in a nut shell. It's black, its blue...its purple. Directly related to all the busted knuckles and bruises that come from building trucks. ....Well that and the influence from the stuff in the Mason Jar. :thumbup

Good for you man! I'll email by best friend who's a Major over there right now and see how stuff can be sent, preferably to those who need it. No pillaging REMFs. It's nice that you're sending them magazines. Believe me they appreciate it. It's a little something that tells them someone cares and it can be deciphered alot better by them than some magnet saying "Support our Troops!" Not that I have anything against that either. It's just if you're saying support 'em, then do it. Supporting someone is more than putting a stupid sticker on your car. 'nuff said.
Back to the contest! BTW I LOVE the Camo job you did and would be curious on where you bought the paint and how you did your patterns, ect.
84x4bronco, I love the paint. You did agreat job. I'd be scared to scratch it but apparantly you are not so my hat's off to ya there.
Ironclad, I love the detail work on that engine you built. Is that a Ford Motorsport detail kit you got going on there? Also there's nothing cooler than seeing the southern boys in the garage.

BigNorm 07-08-2005, 03:13 PM I bought the arms and links from Trevor at WFO (http://www.wfoconcepts.com/) He's a real cool guy and was quick to correct a mistake when he sent me a Drag link that was too short. I didn't think his prices were too out of reach either. :thumbup

next upgrade was the interior. i hated the faded maroon that was in there, and because the previous owner was a mason, there were drywall screws, concrete nails, and old mortar paste everywhere. heres an idea of what the interior used to look like.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/152412/fullsize/DSCN1293.JPG
and here it is now, complete with bed liner, vinyl dyed black interior completer with new door panels, dash cap, visors, grant 4 spoke steering wheel with billet ford emblem horn button, stainless steel screw and bolt kit for anything exposed, procomp premium jeep seats, custom aluminum body mount covers with tie down locations, and kickass stereo (not pictured). i even bought a little jar of paint that matched my exterior and painted my instrument cluster to match. no detail left untouched. :thumbup

Sure does work great. Driving in snow cleans the tires better than any other cleaner you can get too.

I voted for Andy because voting for yourself is like f*cking your sister, and also because he and I share the same NO BS policies when it comes to wheelin and working. (Plus I nominated the f*cker)
Well here goes.
I went from this:

to this in 2 years as well.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/211814/fullsize/web7.jpg
I am overly dedicated to my bronco, the wheeling community, and the local businesses that make it all happen.
I have dedicated my Bronco to a full time trail rig. I bought a $45,000.00 truck to tow it, I have spent thousands of dollars, droves thousands of miles, and spents hundreds of hours getting it to where it is now.
I have met some of the best people Keith, Scott, Dustin, Dave, Doug, Bud, Mitch, Garth, Justin, Nate, and of course all their respective significant others in the process.
Who knew that a vehicle would make all this possible?
Ok, enough with the heart felt crap, onto more pictures:

and these two fags for a weekend:

No more bump steer, or death wobble. It even made steering at full stuff easier. Note the Super Duty OEM pitman arm too. No more dropped unit.
I am in the process of making a DOM tie rod too. I will be using 1/2" wall DOM, tapped on each end for HEIMS. I was going to use Chevy 1 ton tre's like I did in the drag link, but I dont want to ream out the knuckles to flip it over the top. So i am going to use a tapered cone through the bottom of the bolt hole on the knuckle, and mount the new tie rod over the knuckle. And of course I will be using the appropriate misalignment shims, etc. There are some new HEIMS on the market that are rebuildable and have zerk fittings for grease, so if everything goes right I will be running those.
Custom rear bumper
Made by my good friend Justin
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/201864/fullsize/RB_02.jpg
He also made my Transfer case skid plate:
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/212838/fullsize/Tcase07.jpg
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/212839/fullsize/Tcase08.jpg
The plate is 1/2" thick. This is the best T-case skid plate I have ever seen (IMHO) :toothless
That is it for now, I will post more pics later on.

BigNorm 07-10-2005, 02:42 AM I need to get some more pics. I was busy today getting some relays and 30A fuses fromt the salvage yard today. I also picked up a couple of tow hooks. I spent the rest of my afternoon bolting up the hooks and swapping the sterio out of my F150 into my Bronco. (My car stereos seem to make the rounds between my 5 vehicles. lol) Anywho I hope to get out for a short ride tomorow and take some more. I love the welded diff. :)

BigNorm 07-10-2005, 02:54 AM I'll add this as a comparison. I'd like to stress again that I did all my own hands on. My dad helped some with the brakes and I had the driveshafts built. I bought the Highsteer but I did all my own install.

BigNorm 07-10-2005, 03:04 AM Hey Beerdude. Do you have any problems with fumes coming in the rear window with the window down with your pipe cut short like that? I think it's a cool idea. That's the only reason I haven't done it myself yet. I've got enough problems without sucking fumes. :drinkbud

I have 3 people in mind....this is a hard vote this month
BigNorm 07-10-2005, 04:29 PM OK. We were talking about supportion our troops earlier. I emailed my bud who is currently in Iraq and this is what he had to say about it:
For the mail question, the post office won't accept "Any Soldier" mail anymore (terror threat). Most groups that send stuff send it to a person they know and have them give it to thier unit or a nearby unit. I can do that if you want someone to send mail to. We have over 22000 people on this camp, from SF secret squirrely guys to infantrymen, engineers, all us loggies and truckdrivers, bunch of aviators, and even Air Force, Australians, and Brits. Unfortunately all the Nevada Guardsmen are down south of us but they convoy in a couple times a week. If you want them to send to me tell 'em to put a note near the top of the box for me to distribute. For example, there's an Infantry Brigade here that I can drop it at thier mailroom and they can send it out to thier forward OPs and smaller camps.
Good to hear from you again. The truck looks good!
So there you go. If you know someone who is over there, send it to that person and ask them to distribute whatever you sent. If you don't know anyone there I'd be willing to do it for you. If you want to do this then PM me and then you'd have to mail the stuff to me and inclose some money to help me with the shipping as well. I know it sucks but it's the best sollution I have right now. Let me know if you have a better idea.

BigNorm 07-11-2005, 01:17 PM Cut the Fenders Dirty! I'll bet it'd do great with some wheel clearance. Your truck is wearing my dream treads (make a joke out of that damon!!! :goodfinge ) Thanx for the compliment 81Bronk36. My truck was just completed a few weeks ago and This morning was my first real ride on some trails near my house. I can't express how impressed I am with the welded diff. In the dirt and sand I spend most my wheeling in it does awsome. I can't believe how easy it makes stuff to do. Steering isn't all that bad either. I know that will change in the rocks but as of now it's working great in what I have around the house. Here's pix from where I was this morning:

There's no telling how old this house is. All around where I live is history from the 1800s when the Comstock lode in Virginia City was in full boom.
http://www.superford.org/getfile/222977/fullsize/IM001149.jpg
Comments on the first real ride:
I'm pretty damned impressed. I'm happy with my choice in Carb which is an Autolite 2150 that I pulled of an 81 Bronco with a 400M. It's not going to win me any drag races but it powered up everything no matter how steep or off camber I've got. I didn't push it too hard but I had narry a hicup with this carb so I'm happy thus far. Some day I may try throttle body injection but if this carb continues to perform like today then I may leave well enough alone.

Lemme give some spec's for my rig.
Engine:
5.8lt 351W, EFI,K&N FIPK(Sound of a Lion),Flexilite fan and GMB water pump
Drivetrain:
E4OD tranny,1356BW T-case,
TTB Dana 44 front with a QuickLock locker
8.8 rear with an ARB airlocker.
WARN premium manual locking hub conversion.
6" Skyjacker full spring suspension
lift with Extended radius arms and
37" Goodyear MTR's. Prerunner light bar.
Yukon 4.56 gears front and rear.
Notes: I Bought this 95XLT Bronco in Feb of 2000.
I saw it and my wallet burned a hole in my pocket and fell next to the register. The person that had it before me NEVER put it in 4wd so the first time I did I ended up putting some new stuff on.ie Pinion, pinion seal, ring gear, Manual Locking Hubs Conversion
since 2000 I have built and wheeled the Bronco everywhere I can think of that It will fit and some places it didn't. Carnage is a gift that the wheelin Gods give us and I have had my share.
-I will pic whore a bit more but I think I am a little behind

Look at last month's pics of dogonmuts rig. He had coilovers, they failed him at moab and he switched to leafs and never looked back. I think you have a damned nice setup. I'd be hesitant to cut too though with that nice paint job you have. :)

JK.
I wish I had more pics, look at my SF pge if you are that horny for pics of my shit. Those of you that know me should vote for me if they want to based on what I have provided to the fsb team (Tech write ups for gears, etc.) and I have also always given a straight no bs answer. I hve donated to the site more than once, and have bought merch from Joe more than once. I have been a part of the team since jopes had a shitty running, d44 busting 78 ranger, before Dblue had a roll cage, or a D60, Before Andy poped his cherry, While Raf had an 8" Skyjacker ttb lift with 37" Pro craps, Before SAS became disco. Hell when I started with the gang the only guy that I can remember talking about doing a SAS was Raf. And iirc he did it in the month of july. He also put his d44 ball joints in upside down. :histerica :clap :goodfinge
I can remember jopes almost killing a man with a flying hub, I can remember Dave Blue owning a tread off of a bogger. I can remember when Brian did a write up on replacing axle pivot bushings, I can remember Damonhaas when he was called damonhaas and was still running the ttb.
I can remember Davids78bronco trying to come up with a trade deal, you buy him a tube bender, and he will give you a discount on a new fabbed part...
I can remember when Mike was 2bit, jumped his skyjacker equipped bronco, then completed HIS sas.
My point is, I have been here and there *cough mbb cough* for many years and have met a lot of great people, travled a lot of miles, and drank beer with the best of them. You have seen my bronco grow, as well as myself.
I didnt just come by one day to win an award, get my name in a mag, and split, I am here for the long haul.
AND just maybe some day when all you f*cking bastards move on to bigger and better things I will probably start swapping in my very first D60 :brownbag :histerica

After these few test sessions (for those of you who didn't know I've just finished this thing recently) I've decided to move the shock mounts up another few inches. When I was all flexed out I've only measured like 8" out of the shock. I've got 15" travel shocks so I think I'll be OK in moving them up another 2" or so. I'll also be needing to trim a little more metal up front. I imagine some day if I'm running 44" boggers I may not have much fender left at all. As I stated before, I'm absolutely in love with the welded D60 diff. Thanx to all who have voted for me. :beer

84x4bronco 07-12-2005, 06:46 PM well, sadly i havent had the time to keep up on this every day, and have fallen a bit behind. just so you guys know, i started out on this thing two years ago on THIS EXACT DAY. my birthday. i feel it has come a long way since then, and i did it all on a high school / College kid budget. i ate ramen for three months just to buy parts for the damned thing. and while my little testimonial to the bronco way of life isnt as deep as Beerman's, im here to stick around too. its just a shame you cant always have pics of the things you do, becuase i've had a few moments where the pucker factor almost reached the shit my pants factor. here's some more pics from an up and coming bronco freak.

BigNorm 07-12-2005, 08:20 PM Thanx for the vote Pony.
Bignorm, how do you like the shackles in front? How does it track on the open road?
You'll observe in most of my pics that the leafs are almost flat at ride height and as such they are very soft and flex well. It tracks OK. If anything it's too soft because of the rear leafs up front. It'll handle 75 mph fine. The coolest thing about the shackles in the front I believe is that under flex the pinion angle stays strait with the transfer case. Under stuff it flattens and under droop it goes up and keeps the driveline angle nice and clean. Yes I suffer a little loss of approach angle (Which I don't believe will be a big deal some day when I get the 44" tires I dream of) but on the flip side I have more belly clearance than if the shackle were to the rear. It's really cool pushing the front tire into an obstacle knowing that the traction is increased because of the shackle location. All in all I'm happy. It handles Awsome offroad and like a boat on the highway which is OK because I was striving more for offroad manners than highway manners.
Here's some good shots of the pinion angles I was talking about:

http://www.superford.org/getfile/222098/fullsize/IM001130.jpg
I think the shackle location argument is like standard vs auto. My shackle location works for me. I'm happy. :chili:

Installed a set of Superlift rear leafs for a 6" lift and did a shackle flip with a Sky bracket.

BigNorm 07-13-2005, 04:13 PM I love your buildup pics Ironclad. Especially the one of you and your bud jumping for joy. I can certainly relate. This is a good run this month. I'm loving everyone's pics and I'm loving an excuse to get out every morning before I go to bed (night shift). Take care and I hope you enjoy the pics as much as I did making them. :toothless
BigNorm, I too have a test area about five minutes away. But, no where near as nice a scenary as yours.
Thanx Allcruisen,
Today was a real eye opener. I don't know why but it hit me like a ton of bricks that I actually did it. I tore my truck down with no deadline date because I didn't have the money all at once to do it and step by step piece by piece I took it apart and put it back together again. Crazy thing is is that it looks like I imagined it when I started. There's nothing like listening to the intro of "Welcome to the jungle" As you are cruising down the highway at 70 mph in something you built from the ground up. I'm wheelin again! I'm really wheelin! :rockon

The temp usually sits between the n and the o. But I think this is doable for idling for like 10 minutes while I ran around taking pics. It's amazing how much it fell just cruising in 2nd 4 lo. It dropped back down to the R in like 30 seconds of driving. :thumbup

BigNorm 07-13-2005, 04:34 PM One more thing I just thought of. I haven't heard my body stretch or squeek once in any of my flex pics. I used to think that was part of the game. I guess not if you've got the suspension to soak it up. Maybe I'm not flexing it hard enough? :duh

87EBBronco 07-14-2005, 02:24 PM I voted for Ironclad. Great buildup pics, nice clean rig, and you aint afraid to get it dirty.
cr69ml 07-14-2005, 05:02 PM I voted Dr.Dirty based only on looks, I HOPE that he will actually get some mud or action pics up to show us that his truck isn't mall rated.
godless 07-14-2005, 05:38 PM I just had some zero rates made by Lightnin. I had some front and rear done with a 2" offset. He made them 6"s long and 3"s wide. So I will be adding 4 more inches of wheel base to my pig soon. Plus a better spproach and departure angle. Also it will line up my high steer arm better. So for me it was the cheapest easiest way to achieve many advantages. I will post pics when I get them.
I also just installed my Tuffy Center Console. I will get pics up of that soon.
Ironclad 07-14-2005, 06:59 PM Yep... lots of tough competition.
Thanks to all who have voted for me so far..... :thumbup

I got 7 votes now.
Thank You for every one guys and gals
godless 07-14-2005, 09:02 PM here are the 2 inch off set zero rate aal's that lightnin made me.
Specs:
6" x 3" x 1" blocks
2" off set from center
Corners are all rounded to prevent stress points on leaves.
godless 07-14-2005, 09:02 PM More
godless 07-14-2005, 09:06 PM The reason I chose 6" long is to match my ORU "Anti wrap" style spring perches. The blocks are just like the ones that OFFROAD Design sells but I feel that Lightnin (John) design is better because he can make them to your spec.
I got a 2" offset instead of just a 1 inch like the ORD ones are, and we were able to achieve this by using 6" long blocks instead of just 4".
(Ask any women and she will tell you 6 inches is better than 4)
Once I find the time I will get them bolted on. I plan on removing the "Helper leaf" from the back because I dont feel it is needed anymore. Plus if I am only using long leafs in my pack that should void a better spring rate, and better overall suspension cycle.
I will post up everything when I am done but it may be several weeks.
BigNorm 07-14-2005, 10:45 PM I can't wait to see the results beerguy.
How much I wish I could come to the cookout Ironclad. I miss Southern hospitality. :drinkbud
This is what I spent my day doing. Rather than a bunch more desert pics you get to see my tire rack modded up for a 38" spare.
Here you can see I knocked the old bolts out that held my 5 lugger and I cut down the angle iron that holds the gas can. This solves a problem I had before of the angle iron possibly digging into the bottom of the gas can. Now the gas can can sit on it's own weight.

I took this piece off of a stock tire carrier I had laying around in my side yard, drilled and bolted it on.
http://www.superford.org/getfile/224416/fullsize/IM001200.jpg
I needed a 2" spacer to line it up strait. Once that was welded I drilled a 1/2" hole and used a half ton lug off my old 9" axle, bolted it tight and then welded it from the back side (inside the tube).

BigNorm 07-16-2005, 03:37 AM Here's todays projects that were completed. (a few things x'd off the big list)
Switches for line locks
http://www.superford.org/getfile/224755/fullsize/IM001211.jpg
I can't tell you how cool it was trying these things out. With them both locked the truck will not move under power at all. Which is good
I experimented crawling down a steep sand hill in 2 High with the rears locked and it was cool as hell being able to see the fronts rolling and the ass end dragging down the hill. It's also able to just stay engaged as I crawl down stuff which was one of the biggest reasons for getting these. It's kind of a crutch for having 4.10s and 38s but it seems it's going to work as planned untill I can get the 5.13s down the road some time. I'm still loving the welded diff and it's got me dreaming of being able to select between open and locked solid. So an ARB will be on the list some day too. The same list as the 203/205 doubler's on. :smokin:
Here's a few more pics:
I made a mounting location for my high lift today. Yes I'll be carrying a ladder at all times. :)

It's never too hot Dustin. Call it a test of your vehicles cooling system. Mine's doing well with a 180 degree Tstat, Big Block Radiator (off an 81 Bronc). Plus the AC condensor is keeping the tranny pretty cool as well. Not to mention the PS cooler. I was hoping that everything would be nice and cool during the heat and it appears that was successfull. All one needs to remember in the heat is to drink, drink, drink. Water that is. If you've hydrated enough during the day then indulging in a few adult beverages by the campfire will be fine. I need to find someone around where I live to loan me some 44" boggers to park and take a pic with. Then I could give them back. I won't be able to flex out with them... yet, but It'd look perdy in the DRIVEWAY.
Dustin 07-17-2005, 10:43 AM It's never too hot Dustin. No one has fun cruising with heat
Hell I know my cooling system works....only way I will go wheeling this time of year is either at night or really early in the morning. campfires? We cat have campfires here....theres fire restrictions cause its so dry, we would burn the desert up :doh0715:
Ironclad 07-17-2005, 11:28 AM Got together with some of the other local FSB'ers yesterday for a cook out and some mudding fun.
We've had tons of rain recently so we were hoping for lots of big ole deep sloppy holes. We only found two. :scratchhe
Made the best of what was there though...... :thumbup

I wasn't questioning the integrity of the cooling system. It's just that for me I can be sweating my ass off and still be having the time of my life. I love this stuff that much. We have the same restrictions here sometime but for us there is usually an ordinance saying no fires under 10,000 feet. You we just head up into the mountains. :thumbup Some people have quads. I use my bronc the same way those folks think of there little rigs. Only I can drive mine to the trail head. This is primarilly wheelin to me. Actual commuting isn't done in it. Although I do admire those who seem to do what I like to do and still keep there rig clean. Chevyboat comes to mind here. That man is maticulous with his machine. Here's some pics

anyhow, here's some of what i have done. i am having a new 3rd member built this weekend (itll be here on monday, complete with 4:56's and a detroit) and over the weekend, i decided to do a complete overhaul on the rear end. brakes, wheel cylinders, brake lines, and bearings. i may not be able to weld, but i'll sure as hell do the work. :twotu:

Slickerthanyou 07-17-2005, 10:42 PM Hey Norm,
You got my vote this month. I remember when you were gathering SAS info. Your Bronco looks awesome and I bet it drives 100 times better. I am on my way to the SAS, but Just gathering info :paper: for now (and parts if they're cheap). Most D44 I have seen are coil sprung, Is that bad? I think this is what I want to do. I like the fact that i can still use my coils and spend litt bit more on something else. The customj work you've done has inspired me to start my own! Keep Bronco'in :thumbup -Bob

That would have ended the day for me, right there, no questions asked. I would have been in the house with a bottle of booze and a flyswatter for the rest of the night.

Aint those babies cool. Got some hidin' out in my garage too. All you need to take em out is a rag or something between your hand and them. My wife found one that had snuck into the kitchen and was hiding under the hutch yesterday, papertowel pinch took it out. The closest I've come to getting bit was when I went to take the trash to the curb and the nest was under the lip of the can. She was about 1/2 inch away from my finger.
BigNorm 07-18-2005, 01:07 PM Thanx for the Vote slick! :chili: I'm proud to have inspired! Thank You!

BigNorm 07-19-2005, 09:43 PM Here's todays effort:
I made some mounts for my full length shovel. I prefer a real shovel in those situations that require one as it hurts the back less than like an entrenching tool. I've been wanting to do something like this for awhile just to have better access to it because when you need it it usually isn't too convenient to be digging around all the camping stuff looking for the shovel. Anwho, here goes:

BigNorm 07-20-2005, 12:16 PM Did you Detroit the TTB 84? You'll have to let everyone know what it's like once everthing is back together. I'm absolutely in love with the welded diff in the D60. Someday I'll do an ARB for the selectability. I love being able to lock my rear brakes independantly from the front too. The line locks look like they are going to work exactly as I hoped they would. I don't have any fresh pics today. I'll post up some old ones.

84x4bronco 07-20-2005, 06:05 PM i'm actually waiting to do the front end until i can get some help with the fabrication portion of my SAS. really i could do the work myself, but i cant weld... :doh0715: the plan for now is to disconnect the front driveshaft and drive with the TTB as is. once i get the '79 front end under there, then i'll have both ends done. i am going ARB or aussie locker up front in about 2 months. (i do have other priotiries, and i may go cheap to get it done sooner than later.) i just need to save for it. i've already got the 4:56's for the front too. all OEM, because OEM is better... :thumbup

84x4bronco 07-25-2005, 01:55 AM so.. i drove my truck for the first time since putting the gears and locker in. i love topping out at 60 miles an hour! the torque at low end is wonderful too! i'll have some pics of the finished product tomorrow evening. :twotu:
BigNorm 07-25-2005, 11:44 AM Right on man! You're gonna love it in the dirt. :smokin:
Pony-boy 07-25-2005, 05:48 PM Gotta love upgrades
Congrads
84x4bronco 07-25-2005, 07:09 PM so, after completing the rebuild, i decided to squish up my ride a bit too. i took out the overload leaf spring and lengthened all of my lines to get some extra slack out of the rear drivetrain. i think i may have to have some rear D-shaft work done in order to account for the amount of flex i now have with the lines and leafs, because it manages to pull out the grooved section a little more than an inch on the stock D-shaft. i went to some longer shocks my neighbor had laying around too (a little used, but only like a months worth of use...) i know the longbodied shocks that are on there now have 5" uptravel (roughly) and i think 9" downtravel (14" travel shock i think) i used to have standard 6" lift shocks from procomp, whatever those craps are. the new limiting factor is the exhaust. the leaf spring drops down so far it actually comes to rest on my exhaust. it will be fine with the sky shackle flip, but until then, that is my restraint.
If it rains tonight, you will have your retarded mud pictures... :twotu: i feel like making a last run at this thing, and i hope i can find some cool enough mud for you crazies, and maybe even run the TTB into the ground (again). stay tuned!
chalkline 07-26-2005, 10:06 AM My vote had to go to the local Nevadan! Go Norm!!

84x4bronco 07-26-2005, 10:57 PM well since this is almost wrapped up, i think you did the best job by far norm. wish i had my truck insured at the moment (waiting for that clearance so i can wheel it) because i could have put up a bit more of a battle with some cool daily pics as well. way to support the 80-86 category, and cool rig!

15 votes, I can't believe it. I love you guys
BigNorm 07-27-2005, 10:23 PM Today I added some aux. lighting. A friend of mine gave me these offroad lights which he bought through harbor freight.

I got the idea from a guy who wheels a yota to use Nissan relays as they are easy to come by in wrecking yards and thus new replacements are cheap.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/228688/fullsize/IM001294.jpg
I wired both the high beams and the aux lights into the relay box so that they both come on when I hit the high beams. I just unpluged the high beam and used that as my switch. The low beams still use the stock power.

Thanx for your support. My wife don't understand. I'm glad you do. :muscle071
EDIT: I just wanted to add I took it for a drive at night. OMG you wouldn't believe the difference. And with stock lights. I'm going to add a relay for my low beams as well. The difference between high and low is quite literally day and night. I'm gonna order some H4's! This is cool! I think I'm officially into the light thing now. I get it.
TexBronco 07-28-2005, 07:51 AM Sorta O.T.: How well do those HF lights work at night? Can you get some pics?
allcruisen 07-28-2005, 12:21 PM All great contestants this Month. But, I can only pic one. My VOTE went to Big Norm. I just gotta give it up for someone who can go outside and just ride 4-5 minutes and hit the trail.....:) :thumbup

I'm quite impressed with the little buggers. They obviously aren't spotlights. I had them and thought to myself: I wonder if these lil buggers would fill in the space between the truck and where the highbeams hit. It works great! I'm going to dedicate another relay today to the low beams. I only used 18 gauge too. I'll try and get some pics for you.
mkwalt 07-28-2005, 02:57 PM I gotta give my vote to Andy!!! Nothing against anyone else but I have seen his BKO at the Con before.
84x4bronco 07-29-2005, 12:36 AM here's a burnout vid after the locker install. it makes all of the engine work i had done prior to this date really stand out. i have no idea as to why the sound didn't record, but i'll post up some sounds of the engine sometime too. :twotu:

BigNorm 07-31-2005, 03:28 AM One last revue. This will just be stuff I did this month while up for nomination. I highly recomend it as a motivator to get those things done that aren't that hard to do but never seem to get done.

I fixed my tire carrier to carry my 38" spare
