Now I have to get some steel to make a stand and handle.
Show us your benders. (Not the Futurama robot).
Burl Swift 09-15-2005, 12:36 PM New bender...new welder ordered...sounds like someone is itchin' to play with some metal.
Sweet!
peteyg 09-15-2005, 01:39 PM On a side note, that's some hellacious camber on your street ride. How often do you go through tires? Oh, and very cool on the bender! Have fun with it.
collinsperformance 09-15-2005, 01:44 PM i still out investigating bender--no extra $$ till tax return next year...but i am looking at the "Lowbuck tools hydrolic bender and notcher special. so it is a toss between the hydrolic bender and the pro tool bender. i like the portability if the lowbuck bender or i make a hitch reciever mount for the otherpro tools...still thinking...good thread till my post..mike

redwagon 09-15-2005, 07:26 PM ya its manual but it can be converted to hydraulic...just have to add a ram and pump.
chambiec1 09-15-2005, 08:22 PM How much does the JD2 run?
redwagon 09-15-2005, 08:30 PM I have seen it at our local metal supply place for as low as $295.00
Dustin 09-15-2005, 09:17 PM How much does the JD2 run?
I bought mine fro $250 at m-tech supply, oh and dont forget the dies at 250 a peice.
oh and not everyone can afford a hydro unit crawler :twak
Larston 09-15-2005, 11:52 PM I copied the JD2 hydraulic setup with JD2 dies and a HF 20 ton jack. Works great (now if I could use it on my own vehicle!)
MyFullSize 09-15-2005, 11:57 PM Damn sweet!!

It's an optical illusion from the angle of the camera.
Hey Burl Swift,
I got to the point of my build where it time to bend some tube. I still need a little more welding practice before I make the cage but using a more powerful MIG with gas should help.
I also got a sub panel to run a 240v plug, a row of 120v plugs and overhead lights with a switch. I'll do the runs and have an electrician down the street hook it up to the main.
90Beater 12-28-2005, 02:14 AM Well, it's been a while but today I can finally start my fab work. I stopped by Industrial Metal Supply and dug this stuff out of the scrap bin. The square tube was also discounted. I have stuff for a few things including a stand and handle for my bender.

I decided to start small since I haven’t used the welder (Millermatic 175Amp) before. Man, I am so glad I listened to everyone’s advice and stepped up to a 220v welder. It’s like I was trying to weld with a squirt gun (Lincoln 85 Amp) before. BTW the $20 10Lb .23 HF wire works just fine. I got so into what I was doing I didn’t stop to take any pictures until I was done grinding the pretty decent looking welds away. I started making a rock guard for my D44 cover. This started out as 9 pieces. 1/4" x 1/2" steel.

I mainly wanted to post how impressed I am with the welder.
poopy_pants 12-28-2005, 02:45 AM I can't wait to get a house and a garage and be able to do that stuff. When my buddy and I installed cat-back exhaust on my 96 Mustang a few years ago we had to weld a piece, it was about as much fun as I've had with cars.
Dustin 12-28-2005, 10:10 AM I bought metal for my first set on my bronco at industral metal supply, They are a alot more expensive(compared to AZ) but their place is awsome! I love how its set up in there and they have lots of precut brackets, plate etc their scrap bin is cool too.
90Beater 12-30-2005, 04:12 AM Part of the reason I wandered in there was for my dad. He wants to build a new railing for his stairs and the amount of pre-fabbed stuff they have is amazing. I was quite happy that most of the stuff I was looking for was in the scrap bin. I will return in a couple days for more. I only stopped since I was afraid how much what I had would cost. I was relieved how much lower it was than I was expecting.
Oh yeah, I got a little further on my rock guard. I got all the holes drilled but one. It must have a bit of kryptonite in it since I burned 3 drill bits and a step bit with no success. I will cut out a section of it and replace it with the peice laying next to it to get it finished. All the other holes line up just fine.

90Beater 01-01-2006, 05:20 PM I made the stand for the bender today.

3x3x36" tube, 8x8x3/8" plate, 2x10x1/2" plate
waltman 01-04-2006, 05:20 PM This is my pipe bender I made when I was a third year apprentice. I got the hydraulic pump for free.

I was wondering how this was working for you? It's incomce tax refund time, and I want to spend it on a bender for my hubby. He's been dying for one, and I want a cage. Ive done some research and liked the JD2. I guess I just want someone elses opinion on it.
thanks
:thumbup
Dustin 01-20-2006, 11:06 PM works awsome....Ive built tons of stuff with it. defently concider getting it from mtechsupply.com too. they will take care of you

Awesome - thanks for the website too
LazyF250 01-23-2006, 12:34 PM What is the Website of that m-tech supply place where you got the JD2 for $250? Good thing i didn't order yet, I was about to order direct and that's $295 just for the bender. I just searched a little bit on the net and saw one for $295 with degree ring.
Thanks,
Steven M.
