That 357 is NICE!!!
MikE2 09-19-2005, 11:39 AM 357XP to be exact
And yeah I love it. That thing hauls some ass no matter what your cutting. And it runs better than any Stihl I have ever had or used
TTBlows 09-19-2005, 02:33 PM My new Stihl (forgot the model # but it's an 18" chain and retailed for around $370) keeps dying while idling, even if the gas is full. Thoughts?
Also, what's the best chain for cutting oak? This chain is already completely dull after just a day's use on small-ish oak brush. Now the chain just sits there and smokes
Dangling_Dave 09-19-2005, 05:40 PM Those Stihl's were my favorite saws when I was a professional cutter. I had a 45 super and it would melt through trees. My Echo 750 was pretty good as well. I had a fullsize Homelite with a bad clutch that took a big chunk out of a buddy's leg.
dc
MikE2 09-19-2005, 10:07 PM I just sharpen the chains with a diamond grinder that hooks up to the car batterey. And with any of my saws I can cut 2 cords of oak before they need to get sharpened again. The small Stihls have teh small skinny chain ( I forget teh size) and teh Husky and the 056 Sthil have the 3/8 pitch chain. They both cut about the same speed, but the bigger chain uses a lot more power.
Were you hitting the dirt a lot with it? Because if you do that just a few times, even real quick, it kills the edge on the chain.

I agree reciprocating saws are awesome i use mine for about anything, i need to get a chainsaw, I burned my el cheapo up after Ivan and have not replaced it yet. I will one day when i need it.
85f150 09-20-2005, 05:49 PM no pics but i love my old skool homelites, all rebuilt with poilished cyl's and some coating that i can't remem. They were all my dads but the main one is a XL-400 and sometimes use the super ez, but they always seem to be ready to work
When i worked at the county we had a 2 man husky, with either a 5 or 6 foot bar on it, talk about scary shit as the 2nd per just had a little aluminum hand grip on the end of the bar. Trying to find osme pics of it....
taftmarley 03-22-2006, 09:51 PM I finally got some new tools really cheap. I got them half off, 350.00. I don't think that was a good price for being Mac. Studants get them have price at sschool.

It's an S&S motor specal offer, but it has what I need for school. 90% of what I needanyway. So I figured I'd show it off. It comes with 1/2,1/4 and 3/8. 3/8 and 1/2 goes up to 1". The other great thing about it, it comes with ratching open end wretchs. All comes with sts and mm.
81Bronk36 03-22-2006, 10:36 PM Also, what's the best chain for cutting oak? This chain is already completely dull after just a day's use on small-ish oak brush. Now the chain just sits there and smokes
Missed this from 6 months ago. I always just get my chains sharpened after every day I use them. Your local sharpener should have used chains for 7-10 bucks so I just pick up a few and rotate them. Nothing cuts like a sharp chain.
Also since its brush and not trees I would imagine you were close to the base of the trees, which does have some sand/dirt in and on the bark anyways
MikE2 03-22-2006, 11:33 PM Loaned my puller out to somebody, but couldn't remember who. Havn't seen it since. So I made this one up real quick to get the balencer off. Took me all but about 3 minutes

Steve83 05-05-2006, 02:45 AM Luv my PC 19.2V stuff! I got the hammer drill/circular saw/sawzall/flashlight kit originally, but I've expanded it with the router, jigsaw, spare batteries, & charger.

MikE2 05-05-2006, 10:39 AM PorterCable makes a great product
chowitworkz 05-05-2006, 03:18 PM You can just use a chainsaw file to fix up those chains. As a professional it only takes about 2 minutes and they are cutting better than new.
jackedupbronco 05-05-2006, 03:44 PM Dont have a pic, but the best tool in my shop is the quick fix all duct tape, :thumbup
bronco23 05-05-2006, 03:54 PM this will be here by the end of next week :)

MikE2 05-06-2006, 11:48 PM PorterCable doesnt esist anymore it was bought out by that cheap a$$ black and decker shit
When did this happen?
I know Black&decker is also Elu and DeWalt, but I never heard of Porter Cable selling out too.
Steve83 05-07-2006, 03:37 AM A couple of years ago, but it still exists. It's just made overseas now. I ordered a bunch of new parts for my tools a couple of weeks ago from the local DeWalt/B&D/PC/etc. store. Rip fences, thin-kerf cabinet blades, hard parts... And they had listings for the tools using new part/model numbers, so they must still be in production.
