I have a 110 AMP Arc Welder and would like to learn to weld. It hase the 3 prong round blade plug.

Now my Question: Do I Have to stay with the round 3 prong and adapt it to fit my dryer plug or can I put a regular 3 prong plug on it.

You can wire it to any plug, but remember different style plugs are usually rated for different amps. Like the dryer plug, which has 2 angled flat blades and and an "L" shaped netural blade, is probably going to have 30 AMP wiring and breaker on it. With the welder turned up all the way and long use times you might pop the breaker out

Where are you at in NC? If you're around Charlotte I can help you out with the welding and what not.

I'm 8 miles North of Goldsboro in Pikeville. I'm not going to try and weld actual projects yet. We are moving up to AK in May so we saving our money for the move. After the move... WATCH OUT I going to be a welding fool :toothless

That almost looks like one of those old 120 volt high amp plugs.

Are you sure its a 240 volt welder?

Then MikE2 was right. Good thing your trying to adapt it to your dryer plug rather then 110V.

Have you pulled off the side where the power wire attaches????? Then you gotta go in there with a screw driver and replace the wires with a long dryer one. Dont forget some dryer plugs have 3 prong and some 4.

Dont forget some dryer plugs have 3 prong and some 4.
Good point, check your plug and get the correct cord. Most hardware stores sell them for about $16 for the 3 wire plugs and about $25 for a 4 wire. Thats for a 4 footer, so if you want a longer cord its going to be more.
I dont know how it is in other states, but in Cali if you live in a modular home or your house was finaled on or after 01-01-00 it will have the 4 prong plug
