View Full Version : Fawkin Ford
plug ugly 09-27-2005, 12:54 AM the breather hose on my little mazda ranger thing is cracked and leaking fuel when filling up. It go bad enuf that i decided to change it out (which has been a pita). Anyways, this isnt an ite napa or the like carry, its a ford only ite. of course, ford has a 2" and 2 1/4 inch ends on it, and only sells it as a full assebly, including the filler neck, breather and filler hoses, and of course, they are contoured to fit in a particular fashion.
This neat little item can be all yous for the su of 225 bucks. GOD DAMN, all I need is the outer tube, and cant find anything else that will work. :twak
money scam
MikE2 09-27-2005, 01:07 AM Theres gotta be another way.
This is the fill hose for teh gas tank right?
What about getting some of the Dayco belted hose in the 2.25" diamater and putting an adapter on it to go to 2"
Something like an exhaust pipe adapter would work fine. I would have the inside lined though.
$30 there sounds a lot better that $225
I've done something similar to that on the gas tank on the camper and its been fine for a few years now.
Does the tank have the 2" nipple or the 2.25"?
redwagon 09-27-2005, 01:10 AM I went ahead and just went to napa and bought a hose for the larger size and on the smaller side i cut the piece off the old hose and used it as a spacer then double clamped with hose clamps...have had no leak issues and been over a year.
Ptack1 09-27-2005, 01:29 AM What about junkyards. Id give that a try first.

You saying my fix would be a monkeyed up moon cricket hack job? :goodfinge
welndmn 09-27-2005, 12:17 PM The vent or the main hose?
the vent is like 1 inch to 3/4 size,
The main fill tube would be closer to 2 inch, and I would just get the Hose from Napa and if you need a turn in it use some round tube that fits the ID of the hose.

yup :goodfinge
SquattyD 09-27-2005, 01:28 PM the filler hose on my 78 cracked, and it was just about the same price for the whole assembly.
i bought a junk 78 that i cut up for parts, and i told my friend that when he was disconnecting it, be careful, i needed that piece, he thought i was talking about something else, and cut the tube right in half so we could get the body off. i was livid.
the filler tube bends just sharply enough so that a straight section of tube kinks too much and the gas wont flow freely. you have to fill the tube, let it drain, fill the tube, let it drain...kinda like using a funnel with a small spout.
plug ugly 09-27-2005, 09:38 PM yeah, Im not big into hack jobs. What sucks is I only paid 1200 for the truck, and this part alone is nearly 1/4 the purchase price of the rig. Damnit
89XLT 09-28-2005, 04:19 PM Have you tried calling the dismantlers in Rancho?
plug ugly 09-28-2005, 04:47 PM oooh, good thought marty
plug ugly 09-28-2005, 06:51 PM well, situation resolved. the local, and usually expensive, they pull it yard had a whole stock of necks, and only charged me 15 bucks for one that appears to be in pretty good shape overall.
On a side note, most yards just cut them out, so you would have to call and ask for the part.
In addition, i checked fordpartsnetwork.com, and they wanted 300 bucks for he item, so apparently they arent cheap either.
Is there anything to put on rubber hoses to help them stay elastic/in good shape?
MikE2 09-28-2005, 10:04 PM maybe Armor-all?
Works good on tires
89XLT 09-28-2005, 10:35 PM Cool $15.00 is well worth them doing all the work to take it out.
plug ugly 09-29-2005, 12:10 AM yeah, thats Fo shu
Dustball 09-29-2005, 01:50 PM I went through the same thing trying to put a 33 gal bronco tank in the back of my F-350. Pipe at the filler hole was a different size than the pipe at the tank so I used half of an F-350 filler hose and half of a Bronco filler hose and used an exhaust tube adapter that had the correct size reducer in it. Works just fine, no leaks at all.
