View Full Version : DC200 Ramsey winch????Ideas
cr69ml 09-28-2005, 12:06 AM Ok I just picked up a Ramsey winch DC200. Its was off of a tow truck. My question is sence they are not shaped like regular truck winches does any one have or ever mounted a tow truck winch on a truck before. Any pics would be great. I am trying to get ideas on how to mount. This winches came with two angle iron pieces, one of which appears that it would get in the way if I mounted the line to come straight out like a normal winch.
Here is a pic

On a tow truck it sits how it is pictured and the cable goes upward. The angle iron pieces hold the drum and clutch assembly together. Has anyone ever modified this area.
Would this work. cut out center and weld like this......

Any comments, help, would be greatly appreciated.
SSgtTEX 09-28-2005, 12:31 AM big mike (not Big Mike C) has a superwinch winch off of a tow truck on his rig. look him up
Damager 09-29-2005, 06:37 PM simply lay it on it's side to spool the cable out forward ... looks like you could bolt a piece of angle iron across the front bolted to the frame rails and then mount that thing on the face .. look below
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/154671/fullsize/Winch%20Install%20032.jpg
see how mine is pointing up? ... point it down and face mount the winch .. would that work?
I don't think it would be such a great idea to cut into the integrity of that thing
78bronco460 09-29-2005, 07:14 PM I wouldn't rotate that winch from the factory mounting position. I believe it uses an oil cooled worm brake, along with a gearbox that the oil needs to be level the way they designed it. I'd at least call Ramsey and get info straight from them.
Good luck.

Yea that is what I thought too. I have some more ideas I am going to make up some drawings and post later. I think I figured it out now I just need to get some metal this week and go for it. I'll take pics too.
2FFords 09-30-2005, 12:42 AM Hey Damager,
Did you Really mount that winch to the factor bumper or did you re-enforce it underneath?

I think that he has it mounted to that big thick peice of angled iron.
2FFords 10-01-2005, 01:12 AM I agree, But is the Angle mounted to the Bumper or is it mounted to the Frame????

yea, pic shows it. Besides, Damager would not be stupid enough to mount the winch to the bumper.:doh0715:

cr69ml 10-30-2005, 01:02 AM I should have some pics this monday or tuesday. I have some ideas and some free time to try them on monday so we will see what I can come up with. I don't care how slow the winch is as long as it gets me out If I am stuck in 3 foot on mud sucktion hell.
cr69ml 11-09-2005, 10:14 PM This is how I am mounting the 4 inch c- channel to the frame. It will be welded and bolted.

justdooley 12-29-2005, 12:39 AM What you have drawn would work very well ...just make the notch square to clear the cable ... and make it heavy duty so as the welds make the metal as one piece strength ... 1/4 thick walled square tube to match the angle iron size ... that is what I did .. no problem ...

cr69ml 12-29-2005, 11:21 PM Well here is some updates on what I got so far.
This is a pic of the back of the bumper. I had to make a support to make up for the metal that I cut out of the top 10inch c-channel
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/276785/fullsize/100_0264.jpg
cr69ml 12-29-2005, 11:25 PM This is the right side mount that goes to the c-channel coming out of the frame.
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/276786/fullsize/100_0265.jpg
I made a straight line with the grinder and v notched the ends 19 inches in were when I get my oxygen tank back I can heat and bend the corners. I put a scrape peice of metal in there and clamped it so it will bend straight.

cr69ml 12-29-2005, 11:30 PM Here is the top that I made for the roller fairlead, Had to put it that high you will see why in future pics of finished product. Under that is a peice of 2 1/4 angled steel welded in to support that c-channel back up sence I had to cut out the top angle
