Gentalmen,
I would like to weld up a push bumper that is strong enough to hold a winch. Does anyone have some Ideas to help me out? I have thought about welding a bar across the Frame like a hitch, then round some rails up to the top of the grill, and then weld some supports from the frame up to the top of the grill to give it stability on the top. Can I get some recomendations on metal thickness?
Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks
Stan

Are you planning on doing all this, while keeping your stock bumper? Don't F around - draw it out on paper first, with the dimensions, go buy the steel, and keep going, til it looks like the picture

Thanks, I was planning on retaining the stock bumper. I was going to draw it out and then make a template out of ply wood. How thick metal would you start with?

A warn-style winch mount? it might actually be cheaper to buy one - but not anywhere near as fun as building one. Use 1/4" plate

Thanks for the help. I am afraid that it is going to end up costing me more than buying one. But Even if it did I would have something no one else has.

And another good reason for DIY. Get pictures, when you're done

build the winch mount. build the pushbumper around that. my winch mount is separate from the bumper basically because i built the bumper first. and for the winch mount, i used 6"x6"x1/2" angle iron across the frame horns (that i modified to fit the angle) and bolted on with 8 grade 8, 1/2" bolts. 1/2" may be overkill, but thats what i do. plus its better than getting 3/8" or thinner and having it bend when a 12K winch tires to pull a 6k truck buried up to the frame in mud
