For the past year I've been running the stock 350 steering that came with the front axle. About 6 months of it with my Hi-Lift handle over the drag link as reinforcement. :toothless
So I got some King Pin tops from poison spyder, some thick wall DOM tube and rod ends. And a friend helped me do the steering up right.

The old steering went straight across the front pumkin. That was great as a diff guard, but not so much for alignment. :shocked Now I'm back to a stock height pitman arm and the steering is WAY out of the way.

OH man that is tough. Im torn 2 ways... Jah cuz he drives an 80-86 model and its sweet, and Ace Paul cuz he's from pretty close to home.

Its gonna take a lot to sway either way so whore it up guys!!!!!!!!!

About the same time I was ready to do the steering I killed my 2nd gas tank at Stone Gardens (local trail)

It was leaking pretty good, so I was all set to go Fuel Cell until a friend gave me another idea. A rear (aux) tank from an 80's 250. Fit between the frame fine, used Ford pump and sending hardware. So we tucked one up inside and my friend did an aluminum skid plate.

chambiec1: Everyone has there own oppinions of what makes a good rig. Yes some people vote for there friends but I can personally vouch that he/she who wants it the most and posts the most pics will usually win. I made sure I posted pics almost every day when I was running. I couldn't believe I actually lapped the Dr. If he had posted one muddin' picture I'd probably have been toast.

Its a place that just opened up 4 months ago in Southwest Missouri called Southern Missouri Offroad Ranch. Its a 4.5 hour drive from my house, but well worth it. We had a blast. Didn't get nearly as many pics as I'd of liked to, but the trails there are extremely tight, so there was more time driving and finessing than taking pics. Still have more to come though :toothless

thanks brutha! :beer Looks like the 1 tons will be going on sooner than planned since I grenaded the 9 inch :histerica I still managed to creep up the rest of the trail under my own power using the electrac up front until we reached the hill climb at the end of the trail. It was the longest and steepest climb of the day, and with "front wheel drive" and the noises coming from the rear, it just wasn't happening :doh0715: Had to winch up. I have a few pics of that to post yet. And there will still be videos this week too :toothless

It was the rock buggy that winched me out. I actually broke the rear trying to help the 79 :goodfinge Bill really wheeled the hell outta that 79, quite impressive. Can't wait til he hangs his 1 tons and lift. Heres a pic of the buggy.

460 was from a 77 Mercury Grand Marquis. I used L&L motor mounts, rebuilt C6 transmission from a 79 F150. Swapped in the shorter output shaft during the rebuild so the NP208 would bolt right up and drop into the stock location. Grabbed an oil pan from a late 80's F250 w/ 460 for rear sump. I'll be selling my Edelbrock 750 on Ebay realllly soon. Gonna swap in a Holley Truck Avenger. First I have to get that 14 bolt under the truck so its mobile again. I brokeded the 9 inch this weekend as you can see in the pics :smash :toothless

Yes I have considered them...but 'most' of my flats really have nothing to do with a 'bead failure'. Bead failure is secondary at best to the main problem of punctures. The bead failure photos posted were both result of puncture (screw, stick) and are not typical of my tire problems other than that they have flat spots on the bottom. :toothless
Soft solid rubber tires is something I wondered about too. :rofl: I have had much better luck without running the Mall Terrains.

huh? Mebbe I shoulda put some smileys in there so Jah didnt take me too seriously. If u really wanna know the reason I dont think I'll choose you, is its just I'm not a fan of the 80-86 body style. Well you know, I take BFH's to my body panels to induce body damage on a daily basis (makes me look hardcore). I also dropped small chunks of metal in my 9" to make a cool exploding effect while I was on the trail, just to impress you, and it didn't work :cry And hell, I just like the "bling" factor of a 460 under the hood, can't be hardcore without that. I didn't really need that HP for the dirt trails we run..

Yea why is everyone bitchin about hte lack of pictures? I hate it when theres a thousand pics in the first week. The contest is for a MONTH not a week. You cant just post all your good pics and then fade into oblivion, you gotta keep the good ones in reserve to one-up the other guys!

The reason that pics are so important is because the winner is responsible for sending some good pics to be featured in Bronco Driver Magazine.

I VOTED for Jah BECAUSE he's put so much work into his rig AND he goes out and pushes the limits of what he's built. That and he has posted so much. That's the idea. To get out and take enough pics to keep us readership happy. Jah's done it and I hope he continues. Even if it's his SAS pics.

I'm not excluding the rest of the pack here. Every one could be the winner here. If everyone else sent pics continuously like Jah's been doing then I'd have held out longer.

Well I apologize if I came across wrong, but in the end we can only vote for one. I've narrowed it down to 3 at this point. Yes Jah wheels the crap out of his truck, but so do the others that I'm thinkin about.
However thats not to say Jah wont post something like MuddinMike did and take my vote!
BTW my point in saying the 460/grenaded rear ends/body damage comment was because I have a 460, I have pretty dented body panels, and I have grenaded a rear end. However the 460 hasnt been offroad yet, the body panels were mostly dented on the road, and the rear end grenaded towing a trailer. So thats why I left out the off-roading aspect of it, it didnt apply to me...just makin a joke, and some people took it the wrong way. I apologize again...

I'm gonna see what I can do to hammer most of the damage back out when I get time, and will DEFINITELY be installing rock sliders before my next trip out. The body damage will be inevitible though, I built it to wheel it. I just couldn't stand the body rot (it was bad), so I fixed it. :toothless

EDIT: what really sucks is that is the LAST place I wanted to incur body damage. Rockers are pretty easy to replace though, and the edge of that quarter should straightent back out fairly decent. My spotter was totally hung-over... I didn't know it at the time.

Heres a pic of my over-the-knuckle tierod setup. This is the Bulletproof Steering Systems Trail Proof setup from Performance Unlimited. On a Dana 44, you can really use the extra clearance from the knuckle-under. Drilling out the knuckles was a easy, and drilling out the pitman arm was a major pain :toothless

Used stock 79 radius arms and brackets, and cut and re-welded the face of the RA brackets. laying the face back about 17 degrees (if I recall correctly) to relieve binding in the bushings.

Pitman and Trac Bar Bracket. I got this idea / design from Larston. Hes da man! :thumbup Simple but very effective. You can also see the protective bracket that covers up the Electrac Actuator to the right of the pumpkin. Hasn't failed me so far, but the Dana 60 is about ready to go in regardless.

Broncos arent made for going airborn (ask Andy351), with the exception of a Baja setup of course. It was getting a little overagressive that brought me down hard off of that obstacle before the rocks. Busted my brake lines on that hit. Didn't realize until I was heading for the finish at wide open throttle and went to slow down :toothless Thanks for the vote, much appreciated.:beer

The 60 is done, just have to put the brake calipers on. Will be using some high steer arms also once its actually on the truck. Yukon 35 spline outers, 4.88 yukon gears, detroit locker, warn premium hubs. Spicer U-joints for now, will go to something stronger eventually. I figure the stock tierod there should work fine :brownbag (just kidding, going with DOM / heim joint steering)
