I think I know which way im leaning but im not sure. I plan to build a pre-runner style carrier that will mount to the back seat mount (center) and have main tubes coming down to each side as well to stabilize it. My delema is the actual mounting of the tire. I was thinking of running an old hub(knock the rotor off) with 3 of the studs in it, and I was thinking of 2 ways to do this

1. Cut the hub down so its about 2" long instead of the 6 or 7 to make the tire easier to get on the carrier, cap it off so it looks decent.

or

2. leave it full length and put my single spare hub on the end of it, so I will have all the parts there, stored and I can just take it off and put it on should I break one on my truck. Right now the hub sits at home on the shelf, so this would be a good storage place for it. Im kinda leaning this way.

I'd go full length with spare parts in it

If you've got the spares, definitely go that way. It's even better if you can mount a spindle because then you can mount the hub, rotor, bearings, lug nuts, and a spare locking hub. There have been times when I wished I had spares for all of these.

Oh hell ya, didnt think of that, maybe if I drill a hole or have a void in the 2' square tube I can have a the entire stub shaft of the one that just slides out(pass side) sticking out of the bottom held in by the C clip of the hub. Awsome idea man.
