Just wondering if there were many people who have checked out this park. I'm new to the Bronco since July and got curious of what was around locally. Anyone have any feedback to share? What else is around Minnesota specifically. I'm located Fort Frances/Int'l Falls area so I don't want to be driving 1 day there, 1 day to play, and 1 home.

I'd definitely check out the Iron Range park if someone would tow me up there. I sure as hell ain't driving up there at 8MPG. I've been to the Spider Lake Trails area in the Foothills State forest. That's west of Pine River. Some nice trails there, but you'll need a ORV tag. Costs about $40 for a three year tab. I have a thread on here with pics and videos if you're interested.

Fairly quiet place too. I went the first weekend of October last year, wonderful weather, and I was the only truck out there that I saw. A few ATVs, but not enough to worry about running over.

Very cool. Care to share the link. I'm thinkin' it's too late in the year to check it out but would love to get out there next spring while it's still a little muddy!

All the movies are in my SuperMotors page.

You have until the end of November to wheel there. This is the perfect time of year, in my opinion. Beautiful scenery with the changing leaves, and cool enough that you're not sweating your ass off in the truck.

Where does one go to get an ORV tags?

You can get them at the DMV. Just like getting tabs. Tell them the make and model and engine size, they print out a permit about the size of a hunting tag and a small tab to put on the license plate.

When they asked for the engine size they didn't specify how it was measured, so according to my permit, i have a 302cc engine.:duh

FWIW, the OHV tag goes to support our wheeling here in MN - it will also get you access to Gilbert and you are supposed to have them for the forest roads too. The latest from the DNR is that the Virginia site is finally getting wrapped up and they should start working on it sometime next year. Gilbert and Virginia are supposed to be linked by trail. The Virginia site is 2 or 3 times the size of the Gilbert site. Access would be through the Gilbert site DNR station.

I was under the impression they are only for designated ORV trails that are maintained by the DNR? :shrug

At this point, Spider Lake is the only actual "trail" - however you are supposed to have them for Forest roads too but it's not enforced.
The real benefit of buying them is that it bolsters the number of registered trucks in MN and helps us plead our case for more trails.

Not to mention, they're only about $40 for a 3 year tag.

Yep, pretty reasonable in my book.

Are you clubbed up? or a member of the MN4WDA?

Not yet. I was looking into a "family-oriented" club, but they blew me off because my rig was "too big". Trying to find some close to where I'm at, but not many around the NE suburbs, unless I just haven't found them yet.

No, I'm asking about the Minnesota 4 Wheel Drive Association -

How long ago did you talk to the MVB (Midwest Vintage Bronco club)?

Don't think I've every checked into the MVB. You take fullsizes?

Well.......... our by-laws have been changed to state that you have to have an interest in early (66-77) Broncos....... pretty much all members have EBs, but some of us have 78-79's and a few LMBs. As for wheeling, it's pretty much EB's at this point, but on our last trip we had a 78-79 with us too. I think if you can live with us being mostly EBs, you would be welcome-

good thing they changed somewhat....although I expect to be running and wheelable VERY soon...thanks to getting some steering columns.... :twotu:

FYI-hmthesing,
I just met this group in person VERY recently....good group. Although I had been an online only person for some time...meet them wasn't like meeting a bunch of Jeepers...if you catch my drift. This group is gonna help make the transition to the Midwest alot less tramatic for me.... as I know I have found a group that will be much like my socal group.
HIH.....

Doesn't really matter what they drive as long as they have fun and are mature and responsible. I just want people to go wheeling with!

Sounds like we are your group. Not into heavy partying, lots of kids along for the ride, and never leave someone on the trail.
