derrick36 10-27-2005, 11:35 PM IIRC, in an old issue of Petersen's, they just cut away the stuff that was really bad, an riveted on a piece of dp, and put some sealant around it. I think it was on an old blazer, or chev pickup.
Weber 10-28-2005, 02:20 AM Theres no such thing as "I cut too much" just use bigger tires

The ones on my EB are 3/16, (.1875) but using a thinner metal like 9 gauge sheetmetal (0.1495) would be easier to work around the corners.

i was hopin you would chime in:twotu: yeh i want to follow the body lines for sure so having a sheetmetal would work with me a bit better. whats the better way to shape the metal? heat and bend? sorry for the newbie questions:drinkbud and im thinkin of either using pop rivets or counter sinkin some grade 8 bolts? what would you suggest? thanks for the help:rockon

Depending on the thickness of the sheet metal, you may be able to just bend it around the body. The 9 gauge you might be able to do it with some muscle. Start at one end, start tacking it down, and muscle the bend.
Counter sinking grade 8 hex heads? Grade 8 is kind of overkill for mounting sheet metal to a body, i don't think you need to go that far. I would go to something a bit cheaper like a grade 5. I would use something small too, like 1/4" or smaller. They make a wide variety of tools and bolts to make them look good. They also make some wicked rivots anymore. It all depends on what you want it to look like. The options are endless. They make chrome plated rivot heads now, so all you see is the chrome.

your such a whore:histerica ....... no really i have thought about it but i like the beat look:toothlessim gonna dovetail my shit but the rear is gonna stay mostly stock. i was also pondering the idea of dovetailing the rear like 4" not much , hopefully without messing with the tailgate.
