View Full Version : 2010 Olympics in Vancouver/Squamish
waltman 11-06-2005, 08:08 PM Does anyone think the 2010 Olympics coming to Vancouver is a good idea, if so why?
I don't want it here because it will drive property values up, for one and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for a home, I'm renting now, and even that will go up. Prices in Whistler are already reflecting the coming of the Olympics. There are more reasons, like it will cost the tax payers a shot load of money, but this will due for now.
The only good thing I can think of is the Sea to Sky highway will be improved.
Any other opinions?

bronco boy 11-09-2005, 07:46 PM I really could care less, but I'm more on the "no" side. Like you said Waltman, housing prices, and prices for everything will sky rocket. We all know that there is no need for that around here. As for the Sea to Sky, what is wrong with it? It is your typical windy mountain highway. The reason that there are so many accidents is that people drive like absolute idiots (what a shocker). If everybody would chill out and drive normally for the whole 45 minutes that it takes to get to Squamish, we wouldn't have so many problems. :popc1:
NOBS! 11-09-2005, 11:45 PM I like it. I lived in Calgary for the 88 winter O's and so far the trend seems the same leading up to the big event.....work.. work.. and more work. You can't even get that much guarunteed work through a sweetheart union deal.
and before anyone says "we can't even afford to go to an olympic event in our own town" I say fawk you! if you can't save that within the ten years or so that we've know about it...you don't deserve to go.
waltman 11-09-2005, 11:57 PM So what if we have 5 years to save up. The fact that it will cost an arm and a leg is stupid.
And sure, there's a lot of work out there as a result of 2010, but a what cost? Don't bother answering, I can guess your responce...f*ck it, right?
How was whistler anyways?

BorderBronco 11-15-2005, 02:52 PM Personally, I think it's good. If you know housing is going to skyrocket, why don't you buy? If it's that bad, move. I know that's kind of harsh, but the reality is it isn't going to change, so you adjust. Only my 2 cents for what it's worth.

True, true. BUT, housing prices are already way to high. To buy in Vancouver will cost you a minimum of $700,000 for a dump. Here in the Burbs where I live, a dump is $300,000+. I recently looked in the Mission/Abby area (1.5 hour drive from downtown); houses are going for $250,000+. DAMN! And what's with all the hi-rises. Do we really need to cram more people into already crammed areas? Sadly, all the develpors care about is building and running with there bank accounts overflowing with $$$$$$.
Ohwell, I figure in 10years or so I will be pushed out into the wilderness where I want to be anyways. :toothless
