I utilized the search function to see if the majority of users on this site prefer any particular winch for their Broncos. I did not find anything solid, so I am asking. What winch do you prefer(Brand, Model, weight rating)?

My Warn 8274 works awesome.

Warn, Warn, Warn. If I could cough up the funds I'd get an 8274, if not a 12k. Any of the newer 9000s seem ok, too.

Watch the cheaper winches - they'll run permanent magnet motors

Thanks for the quick reply. I read in a magazine aritcle that said you should get a winch that is rated to pull more than 1.5 times the weight of your rig. I am not sure if there is any truth to that. Does your 8274 pulls your rig good? Have you ever had to put a heavy load on it? I just want to make sure that if I spend a thousand dollars that I am getting something that will definately pull my rig out of a mud hole.

It has pulled my rig out of the mud on more than one occasion, an 89 F350 out of the mud when his Ramsey 12k got tired. An H1 and H2 up a hill, an 88 off the rocks. The thing pulls. I got it cheap, and was suspect of it's abilities at first. It's only rated at 8K. If it makes you feel safer buy a 9000 or a 9500.

Hey man, if that thing can pull those rigs, it should be able to pull mine with no problem. Where did you buy yours? Thanks for the info.

You can pull much heavier things, all it takes is time and a little bit of sense (plus a snatch block). A 9000lb winch with a properly used snatch block gives you almost 18,000lb of pull, you just need to be closer to whatever you're using for your anchor. Similarly, two snatch blocks will give you nearly 27,000lb. If you can't get un-stuck with that, you've got worse problems.

go to the tech section at pirates and read the recovery article. then get the biggest winch you can afford. Id love a 12 or 15K, but have been using a 9K for many years with good results. i dont go in the mud however, which you will se increases pull requirements greatly.

Warn.

8274 is certainly awesome (but very expensive new).

the 9-9.5K are my preference otherwise.

Everyone swears by warn, but if you cant afford one, Milemarker has been a good winch to me. I had an issue with the first one, but they replaced it. I am also a believer in redemption, so the one sour apple i got wont ruin my attitude on their winches.

Yep i bought a hydro 10.5k one for $350 can't wait to finish up my mount and sink the truck. When i get the funds i am going to put an electro over hydraulic pump in the cab for stucks where i can't have the motor runnin

Here's the awesome part. I found my M12000 used for $500. Then it got stolen off my truck. I called USAA and told them about the theft, didn't expect anything since the winch was a bolt on accessory. I even had to explain to the girl what a winch is. She was awesome. She says, hey how much was that winch worth? I said, well I'm looking at the 4WP website and it sells for about 1200 bucks. She says, what's that website address? I give it to her and she says, cool, check is in the mail. USAA rocks.

They are. don't think I would ever switch. I've read my policy pretty carefully, but always wondered in practice what they would do. Especially if you lost items due to accident such as lockers and such.

I have heard nothing but good things about the MM hydraulic winches..but I could not wait to get the MM9000 electric off the front of my trail/some-times-comp rig. I had an MM900 on front and rear. I still have the one on the rear (which is seldom used and when is used means the points no longer matter:whiteflag ) but swapping out the front one for an 8274 Warn was the best thing I ever did. The MM electric winches pull just fine..as long as you can spare a half hour to spool 50' of cable back in when you are done. You cannot hardly walk as fast as the 8274 spools cable, in or out. You can barely tell the MM9000 cable is moving..

I have a Warn HS9500 on my full-size Bronco..it's not too shabby either. The one Warn I have heartburn with is the old 8000 on back of my tow rig..it does the thermal shutdown thing about every time I have a dead vehicle about 3/4 the way on the trailer.

I know the hydro's are slow but i didn't care, i would rather go slightly slow so i can keep an eye on everything. Plus i don't have to worry about duty cycle with the hydro. I am just worried about not have the motor runnin, but then of course how long is a batt going to last. Damn i wish i had more cash for all my dream setups.

BTW who is USAA, never heard of them that i can think of. they sound awesome

Because I have four mouths to feed but I still want to play in the mud I got a cheapo 9000 lbs, winch from harbor freight $350.00 you might say a WARN knock off.
I was very skeptical, however after having it for a year I can tell you that I have used this thing to pull some hairy stuff out of some deep holes and it has not let me down once. Oh well except for the time I left the controler back home in the garage but that shouldn't count.

Running the Ramsey 9500. I had to use a snatch block to get me off the trail(school bus @tellico) with a broke axle and a lil skinny pedal. My brother has 79 bronco and runs the warn 9500hs and it is way faster than the ramsey. I had to stop 3 times and let the winch catch up this last weekend on single line pull.
