View Full Version : BUMMER!

Yesterday, I found the best off-road trails I've ever come upon around here- it took me about an hour off road to find this area down by the Canadian River, next to, and under a big interstate highway. Lots of sand dunes and steep hills (including one monster hill that just looked too scary for me to try- with a very narrow opening at the top) I then back tracked to a "Y" in the trail, and checked out the other direction, and eventually came to a clearing with a huge area with cliffs rising up around the river, and a lot of shallow areas of the river that you could drive right through, and lots more steep dunes and rugged ridges to drive up and over! And this was located about a MILE from my house! I was so pumped, I drove it for about two and a half hours, then called one of my buddies on my cell to tell him about it. I decided to go drive back out, get my digicam and come back for some pics of this amazing place to show my friends- and maybe to get some pics of Fordzilla climbing at ridiculously sharp inclines and such.
As I came back, as soon as I got off road, I got out and locked my hubs, and started into the woods. A Chevy 4x4 appeared and began tailgating me, then drove up beside me and asked me where I was going- I told them about the trails, and they told me, "This is PRIVATE PROPERTY, dude." They made it clear that I was not welcome. It appears the land is owned by a local cement company. BUMMER!
I was, however, really pleased with my truck's performance. I started small and built my way up in terms of the size and steepness of the hills and ridges I climbed, and Fordzilla never had ANY problems. I was even amazed that it really didn't even slip the wheels much, climbing up all of that stuff.
Oh well. I'm going to check out another area this afternoon that seems somewhat promising. If I don't find anything today, I guess I'll just come home and wash the truck. :(

it seems that if the cement company cared about anyone being back there, then they'd have the deceny to put up signs to let everyone know that it is private property! good luck finding a different spot.

we put up signs on our land, people still tresspass.
they try to make it so we have no signs by ripping them down all the time...... its hard to keep up with it if you own lots of property.....

Well, I went back and looked... there is a sign, but its really miniscule, and I didn't see it the first time.

Good news...I found some other AWESOME trails... but the scenery isn't as good. That clearing by the river I stumbled upon yesterday was beautiful. It would have made for some good pics. Too bad I didn't bring my camera the first time. This spot I found tonight had some badass hills, though. I'll post some pics in the morning. :beer (this POS computer doesn't have a floppy drive and my camera uses floppy discs)

BAD NEWS... I BENT MY FRONT BUMPER! :cry :cry :cry :cry I know, I know... character... but it was perfect before! ( just bought it about six months ago!)

Yeah, lots of mud holes, but I'm still trying to get rid of the mud from the last venture a couple of years ago!

nothing wrong with old mud. hell i've still got mud stuck in all kinds of lil crevices on my car (98 nissan altima) that has been there for months. i haven't gotten into any mud w/ my bronco yet, just cause i haven't driven it. i've been deployed since the day after i bought it.

Well, I went back out there today with the wife. Had her screaming. I'll give her this, though, she stayed in the truck, except when she got out to take some pics of fordzilla climbing.
I broke a shock, and snapped my driver's side door step clean off. Anyone have one of those "Steelhorse" steps lying around?
I'll take care of the shock tomorrow.

I don't have one of those steps but congradulations on breaking in the bronco properly. BTW if you replace that step you might just rip the new one off also. Best thing if you plan on wheeling you bronco is to get rid of those anchors

i have seen some steps similar to yours that use locking wing nuts so that they can easily be removed and re-installed. i'll probably be picking up a set myself, since my wife is vertically challenged, and has a hard time getting into my bronco. i'll see if i can find a link to them again.

Yeah, I know, but my wife is also the one who wants the steps on there so that she can climb aboard, (this is my daily driver, too), and besides, it looks kind of goofy with a step on only one side. I don't like the idea of those big holes in the door jambs if I remove them, either.

Besides, they're pretty cheap.

Love the front plate on the rig man... And I saw Justins truck in one of your pics....It's who I thought it was...Do you remeber that old show on Fox called "family guy"?? He kinda reminds me of that guy.........Pm one of these days and we'll have to hook up and go scout some trails around here, I hate going by myself and it's really not safe anyway....I've heard there are some trails out off I-44 and sw 149th......Fog

You and Fog gotta wait for me...I should be out next week!:thumbup

As far as the step thing goes, Use a piece of chain. Bolt both sides down with a dangling "loop" to step in. It gives with the terain but is there to step in when ya need it!:toothless
