View Full Version : What do you all use for cutting flatlander 11-26-2005, 07:04 PM I am looking at a band saw but currently use a sawzall (yeah blows..sorta) I am a novice so I would like to hear whats what for getting good square cuts.Tanks a million. bigbroncojeff 11-26-2005, 07:18 PM cutting what... and off or on the vehicle? Dustin 11-26-2005, 07:46 PM plasma.......haha I have a sawsal, grinder with cut off discs, chopsaw, jigsaw, plasma, and a set of torches. I use all depending on what Im trying to cut. 81Bronk36 11-26-2005, 08:06 PM chop saw, grinder with 1/8" thick cut off disk. I wish I could afford a band saw! SquattyD 11-26-2005, 09:57 PM i use a grinder...sometimes the torch. after awhile, you can make really nice straight cuts with the grinder. same goes for the torch. vertical/horizontal bandsaw or plaz would be sweet tho. MikE2 11-26-2005, 10:56 PM I use a torch 80% of the time. I even had a plasma but always used the torch instead. If not using teh torch its always a Sawzall. I think its one of teh greatest tools ever made Larston 11-27-2005, 11:16 AM I pretty much always use the plasma first, cuttoff saw second for anything that will fit in it. I haven't touched the cutting tip for my torch in years, way too much clean up work involved. flatlander 11-27-2005, 11:53 AM I like Plasma alot. I was just curious about what was being used. Like I say I am sawzall and vice or just freehand. I have been a jeweler for years and have now gotten into bigger stuff. I used to think that a 230 gram pour was big (wich is not shabby being gold..do the math $$) but I got bored with makeing lil stuff for women:doh0715: I have started doing stuff with square tube....find myself makeking a bunch of dirffrent angle cuts and was thinking to go with a bandsaw...Before I buy I figure i'd see what yall where useing round these parts.:beer SSgtTEX 11-27-2005, 11:54 AM im a broke bastard...all my cutting is done with a sawzall or a grinder Cranker 11-27-2005, 08:07 PM Wish I had a plasma. Depends on the situation anything from torch, grinder, sawzall or horizontial/vertical bandsaw. Love the bandsaw set it up and watch it cut.. peteyg 11-27-2005, 11:37 PM I have an angle grinder, torch, sawzall, and a die grinder. I love the torch and the die grinder with a cutoff wheel the best. The sawzall is great for cutting big stuff in the vise and for things like tube in tight, hard to get to places. The torch is used to cut things off axles and frames, etc. My next cutting tool will be either an air saw or a chop saw. Someday when I win the lotto I'll get a plasma cutter. steveG 12-01-2005, 01:39 AM I have a wood chop saw with a metal cutting blade on it and I use the hell out of it. I've been using it for years with no problems. My favorite feature is the built in miter than takes about 2 seconds to adjust. I think is was about 80 bucks at Home Depot. I also use a grinder, Sawzall and torch. Bronco Rob 12-01-2005, 02:07 AM Seeing as that steelwork is part of my job, i use whatever i need. I borrow the plasma, torches or port-a-band from work and take it back when i am done. MikE2 12-02-2005, 09:01 PM Seeing as that steelwork is part of my job, i use whatever i need. I'd like one if they wern't so damn $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ No, but whats nice is i have played nice with one of my mechanical contractors, and now i get to borrow their tools too... Anyone need an 8 inch hole core drilled through 6 inches of concrete? stx4wheeler 12-03-2005, 03:31 PM i usually use, torch an grinder for most things with the chop saw, next on the list. but have used bandsaws and me likey, we also havea hobart plasma, but it is there smallest and cheapest one and i am not impressed with it at all since i have used better ones. |
