Davids78Bronco 12-06-2005, 01:56 AM You're going to get comments about how difficult it is, to build the bumper you're wanting, for the body style you have, because of your accordian frame horns. Then, you'll get comments, pictures, and a couple links, about people who've modified their frames, to build those bumpers Good luck! Dustin 12-06-2005, 02:00 AM yup there are tons of ways to do it, best bet is to get some ideas and go for it if you have the ability to work metal. heres my stuff on my 93 and a buddys 94 http://www.supermotors.org/clubs/superford/vehicles/registry/detail.php?id=1309 FordPerf300 12-06-2005, 12:21 PM yeah..the frame horns blow. Here is one of my designes.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v148/fordperf351w/20055c39.jpg I built it off a warn bumper winch plate and was bolted up to the factory angle tabs. Didn't really like the design so i tried a different design and boxed in the frame horns http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v148/fordperf351w/958f35b0.jpg This is the new design http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v148/fordperf351w/1a5a728d.jpg juGGernaut 12-06-2005, 08:44 PM Dustin, hows that edead, does it deaden noise pretty good? i have a 78 and its loud as hell, have the radio all the way up and it still isn't that loud, i don't have any carpet or insulation though Dustin 12-06-2005, 09:24 PM Dustin, hows that edead, does it deaden noise pretty good? i have a 78 and its loud as hell, have the radio all the way up and it still isn't that loud, i don't have any carpet or insulation though yeah it works. It didnt take all of the noise out but it helped alot. I noticed a huge differnce when I would shut the doors. no more tin can sound. My stereo also sounds better as well ben_cline 12-13-2005, 06:43 AM www.sounddeadenershowdown.com I'd like to build one for my Bronco. Hopefully take welding sometime and be able to do that in class. One I just made a sketch for is a regular flat bumper withthe bracing on the outside. Helps the look too. I'll try and make a similar one on paint and post it. Chuck 12-13-2005, 05:43 PM This is my new rear as it sits right now -- just got it tacked Sunday. It might be a little heavy for what you're looking for, right now with the end plates it sits right at about 70lb. All that's left is finish welding and adding a pair of 1/2" doubler plates to the ends at the shackle points. This is going on a cab-swapped Bronco that will have a dovetailed rear flatbed, hence the narrow width. http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/272399/fullsize/DSC00516.JPG This bumper is designed for a 12k-16k receiver mounted winch with a double line pull, or a 9k winch with a triple line pull (snatch block at one shackle point). There will be an equally substantial bumper on the front, but since that's not essential to getting the cab and back end on, the front bumper will wait until later this winter. More pics in my sig if anyone wants to see 'em. redwagon 12-13-2005, 05:45 PM This is my new rear as it sits right now -- just got it tacked Sunday. Just trust me from my bad experience 85f150 12-13-2005, 10:50 PM yes, very nice, looking good Chuck 12-14-2005, 02:55 PM Dont use the stock mounts. Just trust me from my bad experience If you look, it's not fastened to only the stock mounts. I ran some numbers before I started this project, and the stock mount bolts will block shear out at only 9,000lb (with no factor of safety). Waaaay insufficient. Since I didn't want to move the shackle hangers at this time, I went with three additional bolts each side forward of the shackle hangers, and the bumper endplates run all the way up (2' long endplates total, and that's 1/2" plate). The bumper will also be reinforced top and bottom by attachment to the top plate (not shown because it hasn't been made yet) and the new 1/4" skidplate. Everything shown right now is only attached to the frame with about half the bolts, for purposes of mocking things up. :thumbup |
