Went out and finally bought the Full K&N kit....Figured id install the full kit, and then modify as i needed room for an extra battery, or shocks...Or whatever may come up.

Ordered it through napa on a monday afternoon, Had it thursday morning. Install took just under an hour, But, 1/2 of that time i was on the phone and wasnt paying much attention...So figure 1/2 hour max.

I filled up my truck monday night, from just around empty...And so far have 370 miles on this tank, With about an 1/8 to go. Usually i get about 330 a tank. So if i get about 400 on this tank, thats just over 15. About a 2.5 to 3 mpg increase.

And the seat of the pants acceleration is much better all the way through the powerband. Especially on the highway...Makes passing and hills much easier.

I know more then 1/2 of the people on FSB.com have it, But i figured i'd share for those still interested in buying one. Its well worth it in my opinion.

So what was the product # and the out the door price on the full kit??:shrug

I had a $10 off coupon from napa, and my dads buddy is the manager and gave me an extra 15% off. It came to about $120 or so...

for those that don't know it can also be done by just buying the filter (PN RF-1012 for those of you with mass air or the one with 2 tubes) and using some tubing. thats basically what the kit includes, but you end up spending way less. Dustin has done it as well as a few others and i will be doing it soon...

you got any pics of what modifications need to be made for those of us w/ two intake tubes?

ive heard about taking isulating tape and wraping out two hoses with it. from filter to TB. <--- someone will corect me if im wrong. ....maybe i sohlud get a K&N.

Now that you mention it, Smooth has a nice setup...I've seen it and it was cool...But I just had a guy give me a K&N filter to fit my box, I'm gonna try that...ya can't beat free!:thumbup

yeah I would take the stock box over mine. I'd cover it in alum tape for a cooler charge though :thumbup

I'll get mine fixed up after I get a new intake :thumbup

none....just take the stock air box completly out. run some 3" tube from the hose to the filter, bend a little peice of metal for a bracket and your done. all your out for is for the filter which is about 1/4 of the cost of a fipk kit

Out of curiousity, how would that set up be for deep water?? I would think the stock setup would be better over this because it keeps the filter enclosed..Any thoughts?

I think it would be about the same for deep water...Maybe slightly better.

The only reason i think it would be better, is because stock setup you have the intake tube mounted at the front of the hood, and it goes down, and back up into the airbox.

With the K&N, You can either keep or lose the intake tube, But its not connected, and usually the first couple seconds in deep water determine how screwed you are...

I think it would work.

Sorry SMOOTH doesn't have any pics of his, like Blaze said just like Dustin's the only difference is I didn't use the metal tubing to mount the intake tubes to the filter. No offense to Dustin, I just wanted to avoid having metal around my intake air, not that much of it matters but every little bit helps. The problem I had with this is...the two holes on the filter are the exact same diameter as the holes on the intake tubes. Now this sounds simple, find some PCP piping that will fit inbetween those two. Well if you find it, please give me your address, I will send you the $3.00 and you can send a pair to me. I looked everywhere. On top of that the clamping surface of the holes on the filter are only about a half an inch deep and it is very pliable, not like your intake tubes, so clamping something over them is not an option. I ended up finding a PCP fitting that fit perfectly into the filter holes and over the intake tubes. Certainly not my first options (three trips to Home depot, wasted about $15.00 with other things) but it holds (thanks to a roll of electrical tape) and looks alright.

As for the water issue, the stock setups I've seen, including mine, have the tube that runs from the grill to the bottom of the air box, basically set into the bottom of the air box. When you bolt it to the top of your grill, it just stays put, so it is by no means water tight. As water comes up to it, it will simply seep in, underneath your filter. At best it gives you 1-2 inches of clearance over water where the cone filter dips down, and that's it. I wish I could get pics, but I have no digital camera.

Thanks Blaze for the props, I like it to, and it was $50 for the filter and another $8 for the fitting and such.

my first choice would be plastic but I couldnt find any and I had this metal tube laying around so I used that

I know i didnt have to buy the kit...But, I wanted to make sure that i had the bracket to attach it to the MAF sensor...And i wasnt gonna try and rig my own deal up. Not yet.

Now that i see how it is done, Im already thinking of a few different ways to improve or at least alter it.

Thanks for the info. I just picked up a RF-1012 for my son's 89 bronco. I will be using 3" muffler tubing for the atachment from the existing hoses to the K&N filter. What does the smaller hole on the filter attach too?

Hopefully we will be getting a digital camera real soon. The disposables just added up. Hopefully I will get my rear leafs in and I will be able to get all my lift pics up.
