The website itself, was easy to nagivate thru, and the prices were more than fair, and just flat smoked everyone else with their specials. As most of you know, I bought my case, the motherboard, the cpu, and the power supply, on special, for only 120 bucks, as well as everything else to build me a computer.

After ordering everything, I noticed my order was still Pending Review even two days after the Saturday I placed my order. Apparently, they must have gotten confused about my check card being a debit card. When I called to ask about it, the guy explained to me about them only being able to process an order, according to a debit card's daily maximum allowance. Because my order was over 900 dollars, and debit cards, typically, have a 300 dollar daily allowance, it would have taken 4 days to process the order. Once I told him I used my check card, he transferred me to their credit card dept, where I got to explain that, again.

All sad and done, I was on hold for far longer than I liked, however, that hold time saved me days waiting for my order to be processed. I got an email, later that day, with my two tracking numbers, and was told it would be here within 3-5 business days

Overall, I was impressed, and pleased, with shopping with tigerdirect, and expect to be doing it again sometime

Just to add some more good news to this. I have bought from TD alot. I have never had a problem with any of their items. One time I returned an item because i changed my mind on it and they gave me the credit and RMA number without a prob.

Also being in Mi and them in IL i have always had packages in 2 maybe 3 days max

Today I actually find out a couple items are on backorder, but the site doesn't state which items they are. Them taking a return w/o question is one "feature" I'll be using already... I'm going to save me the 140 bucks for the XP Pro, and use that money for something more worth while - like building the website everyone keeps asking me for

But the backorder doesn't have me worried, I expect them to pull thru in a timely manner

So, what did you end up ordering, all together?

I actually made the pilgrimage to their Canadian (Mecca) store

Although I was blown away by the size of the store and selection I have to admit there's more to choose from using their actual website.

Never been screwed by them and I'm a Tiger Direct addict, so I'd know

Enjoy the build David

For a while there they could smoke anyone for cameras if you weren't fussy about the brand.

Thanks SrATEX, I swear

If the Liberals had won that election a few weeks ago I might have been there faster than you'd think !

As it stands the Conservatives finally got back in after 13 years in the wilderness. They've got a lot of work ahead of them to fix what ails this country.

Don't for a minute think they're actually conservative (Republican), everything in Canada is two steps left of the rest of Western democratic countries.

Our Conservatives are where middle of the road used to be, our Liberals are socialist with a huge helping of corruption.

The third party, the NDP pretend to be the same as Liberals, but whenever we vote them in they spend us a generation into debt in one 4 year term.

We have a Green party just like you do, but I'll bet you don't have something as destructive as "The Bloc". It's tempting to compare them to the Borg, but they're really like one of your states draining the Federal coffers and not contributing to the country, but happily dictating special conditions and criticizing the rest.

Then just for kicks, everytime our dollar almost climbs up to semi-respectable they threaten to ceseed and it nose dives again. To top it all off they have language police to hassle English and non-french speaking people in their state. The real kicker is we're supporting these facists !

Yes a nice state, like yours, with no emissions testing may be in my future if the Conservatives can't turn us around !

Seems I jumped to conclusions, when I bitched about TD showing nearly everything on backorder. Their tracking numbers are showing half of the order being delivered this Monday, and the rest on Tuesday :shrug I guess we'll see ...

The case still isn't here, but it's not TD's fault, it's UPS's :mad I called for a return authorization number, for the XP Pro, and was promptly informed that TD doesn't usually accept returned software. I told the lady it was unopened, and was asked if I'd accept an in-store credit... as if I was really going to have a choice, despite the question.

So, I've decided to "upgrade" with a sound card and speakers. This is where I have, yet another, question - I'm seeing Dolby 5.1 and 7.1 sound cards. What's the difference between the two? Is it, basically, just how many speakers each can handle? 5.1 being able to handle 6 speakers, and 7.1 being able to handle 8?

It sounds like UPS is making your first TigerDirect experience suck ?

Yes, 5.1 will handle 6 speakers and why would you want mo' than six speakers anyway?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1068238&Sku=L23-6322

I found the Logitech 6 speaker deal, for $54.95 to be the best sound for the dollars spent (entirely my opinion, but several friends put me onto them and I'm a believer now).

As far as sound cards. Man they've got a pile to choose from and cheap too. There's no need to go whole hog and get a Soundblaster Audighy 2 ZS Platinum or anything like that, unless you're a pirate as bad as I am.

Suit yourself and buy within your budget.

I'm trying to kep from asking so many damn questions, in here, but all the sound cards I'm lookin at, require using an amp with the speakers (yeah, I know, I could use the card for this, but I want loud). I assume that means using the S/PDIF Out? That would also mean finding an amp that uses an S/PDIF cable too, correct?

I use TD to play off of Zones for pricing alot. I'll get Zones (in Wa) to drop the price to equal that of my negotiated rate at TD, including the sales tax and then make TD beat that. Knocked several hundred $'s off the last order.

I use TD for some stuff and I use Zones for some stuff... really depends.

I do Newegg, personally.

For your sound card...if they still sell the regular Audigy go get that. Get one with the front 5.25" bay panel though, those connectivity options really do come in more handy then you would believe.

For speakers...if you have a home stereo close by just run RCA's over to that and run off of that. Otherwise...any decent 5.1 or 6.1(IP) will work. I have a Creative 4.1 setup that is like...30-40W max and it does perfectly fine. Of course, for spirited music listening something with a bit more power would be needed. But then, you should have a home stereo already for that. I'm just waiting to find a good deal on a 5.1 home receiver to hook my computer into and call it good. Run both the 4.1 and the home 5.1 stereo together :)

Unfortunately, my home stereo's 20ft away. Instead, I bought me a set of Logitech's Z-5300 THX 5.1 speakers. 280W nominal, 560 peak... these things rock! ebay special... 55 bucks, to my door :twotu: I did realize I need to improve on my audio and video cards, but those will happen later. Maybe I'll get those from newegg :shrug Can't hurt to try, right?

You got a pretty good deal on that 5300. It cost me a little over 300 at Best Buy (about a year ago anyways). I agree it's a very good sounding speaker. Makes me almost glad I didn't spring for a 5500 (would cost about the same as the 5300 if I got it through newegg) since I have to turn the sub down pretty far to keep from rattling the stuff off walls. Pairing it with an Audigy 2 ZS will definitely give you an excellent audio setup.

I would probably spring for a GeForce 6800. I have the PCI-E version and I haven't found a game yet that could lag it more than a half second and mainly because of the sound at full quality.

My Dell Dimension XPS came with it. I'm hard of hearing (euphemism for "deaf as a post") but I can definitely tell the difference between these speakers and regular OEM 2 speakers and onboard sound. I definitely didn't know what I was missing all the years I went with onboard sound (other than my last comp. Til this one I custom built all of my previous ones and the last one had a NVidia chipset with nforce platform stuff).

And with the subs at half power, volume about half way up will have my Pepsi cans shaking on bass-heavy notes.

Ironically, the best performance audio solution is the integrated audio that comes with the nforce boards. Used to be called "Sandstorm" or something like that. Full high quality sound with less processor usage then the Audigy line of sound cards. Still...the way to go is any Audigy (audigy, audigy 2, blah blah whatever) with the 5.25" drive bay featuring all the connectivity options you'd want.

when i get the cash together to do it, i will build me a new computer with the Audigy 4. I am still using the Audigy 1 gamer in mine...every rebuild i did i said to myself. It still works why bother.

got my new comp all picked out

Exactly like that.

Hell, I can only marginally justify upgrading from the Live 5.1 simply because the AUdigy is the de facto standard today for audio cards. My Audigy will do me fine for a few more years. Hell, I had my Audigy pulled out diagnosing a Blue Screen, and didnt' put it back in for 6 months. I'm just not picky...

Anybody know any good deals on laptops right now? I'm trying to buy one from Newegg, but the fawkers won't let my payment go through because of billing/shipping and I already called them once. Damnit. Any manufacturers that you know of offering deals on notebooks?
