Did you modify the lines to have one single hose going to the middle of the axle, with the hard lines going to the calipers, or did you get longer soft lines and use the stock lines?

View Full Version : How did you run your brake lines? bigdave 09-17-2003, 11:41 AM Did you modify the lines to have one single hose going to the middle of the axle, with the hard lines going to the calipers, or did you get longer soft lines and use the stock lines? Dustin 09-17-2003, 04:13 PM you can do it either way, I just got longer lines and ran one to each wheel since I stil have my abs crap in there. Bronkzilla 09-17-2003, 04:20 PM On the ABS thing i removed the line that went to the drivers side and plugged it. I used the stock 78-9 d44 brake lines and connected them so that i only have one line coming down on one side of the pumpkin.. Much cleaner than when i had one line to each wheel.. (p.s.. just took out the abs box) seboh 09-17-2003, 04:33 PM Like Dustin says -- it works either way. I kept the stock setup and I'm using Skyjacker extended lines. Works fine. The biggest reason I can see to switching to the "older" style is that you can hack off the crossmember and not worry about rerouting the brake line, and it would work if you had gobs of suspension travel. It's also a little cleaner and it's easier to keep the tires from chewing on the long flex lines. plug ugly 09-17-2003, 11:22 PM pulled the abs computer out and bent up new front line to a center drop. I like it much better than having the lines hanging out, tho it doesnt really matter. your ABS working well dustin?:goodfinge Dustin 09-17-2003, 11:39 PM Originally posted by plug ugly pulled the abs computer out and bent up new front line to a center drop. I kept the 2 lines but I made new brackets to retain the hard lines. Dustin, I can't remember how we mounted yours? Post a pic here. Mine http://www.superford.org/getfile.php?id=86899&toggle=fullsize&f=008_Lower pan hard mount.jpg Brian Solderblom went the old school way http://soderblom.net/bronco/tech/D44solid/brk03.jpg Check out his site for more pics of his set up. Dustin 09-18-2003, 12:18 AM basically the same way yours was done I think. I can get a pic later plug ugly 09-18-2003, 02:04 AM here is where my line comes down. i mounted the bracket to the under side of the crossmember in back, and then ran he hard line like Brian S. http://www.superford.org/getfile.php?id=44376&toggle=fullsize&f=pumpkinlines.jpg Like you said scott, it all works muddybronco 09-18-2003, 06:01 AM pulled the abs computer out did that cause any problems? i unplugged my ABS computer harness once and the tranny no longer shifted and the speedo/odo no longer worked, so I'm curious about what exactly you did :shrug I'd like to rip all the ABS stuff out and rebend my hard lines, is any of it worth $ on eBay? I bet it ain't cheap at the stealer$hip! plug ugly 09-19-2003, 12:46 AM no probs, I just unplugged it at the hcu and tied the line out of the way. Pulled the wheel sensors/wires out and sold the hcu on ebay. No probs other than the idiot light is on. Dustin 09-19-2003, 01:07 AM Originally posted by plug ugly No probs other than the idiot light is on. That got old real quick, pulled my bulb out the next day seboh 09-19-2003, 01:08 AM Like Damon says -- unplug the hydraulic module and replumb the lines. You can't ditch the ABS computer b/c the ECM gets its speed information from it. |
