The tires dont really fit in the fender :histerica
I need to chop the back corner of the front fenders cuz the tires hit. Cool thing though is that even at full lock i have enough room to put a fist between the tires and the radius arms. I probably should have gotten 4 or 5" of backspacing instead of 3", although at the time i was still half-ton, and worried about potential massive tire rub when done. The truck is stable as hell, i actually couldnt find a hill steep enough to climb in 2wd (no front dshaft yet; waiting on a tcase yoke). I could only get so far and then the tires would just dig. And WOAH do they dig. Like, im talking worlds more traction than i had with the 36s. They dig like hell. With the 205 in low i can light em up in the sand and bury em a good 6-8" almost instantly. And the front end flexes pretty good. Actually, its so soft that it seems to do all the work, and the rear barely moves at all, which is the exact opposite it was with the TTB :histerica Im gonna need to figure out a way to lift the rear another 2" so i can ditch the AAL thats in there to hopefully get some more travel out of it.
full gallery of pics can be seen here (http://4x4.forensick.net/88bronco/images/gallery.php?imagedir=060403).

Quicksilver, I ended up getting the tires locally (read: no shipping or sales tax) for $335/ea. The wheels were expensive too, but worth every penny, they are friggin awesome.
Chickentaco, those are 6" superflex coils. Bought em last year, before they switched over to the darker grey they use now.

I think i need to shim my kingpins, since i have minor deathwobble (other than that my front end is 100%), altho it is exaggerated with these (i was on worn 38s i borrowed from OX and could power out of the DW and cruise along at 60). I should have put golf balls or BBs in them but i totally forgot to. Ill get around to doing that eventually, but the truck isnt street legal (38s max in NJ) so it wont get alot of miles on it. But, for unbalanced 42s on beadlocks they cruise alright around town.
Looks awesome. So whatcha gonna do with the 36's? :dealTheyre already sold to another FSB member, thats what helped pay for the new ones.
LaNeR88 04-04-2006, 05:37 PM damn those are sick man

o ok, i was wondering because driving with the 40" ground hawgs at 70mph gets kinda bumpy lol
plug ugly 04-04-2006, 07:10 PM drool, thats my next set of tires too.
canyou get a side shot sitting on level ground? So 6" coils and how much in the rear? You arent hitting your front core support mount or the firewall?
stangmata 04-04-2006, 07:42 PM Plug
I found this one in that gallery he posted. I know it isn't exactly sideways...but it may sate you for a few minutes :toothless

reptillikus 04-04-2006, 10:16 PM I can try. These pics were taken with my 'analog cam' and scanned since i broke my digicam halfway thru the SAS. A new memory card & reader is due to arrive for my bro's digicam within the next couple days so i should be able to get more pics soon.
The front is obviously the 6" Superflex coils. In the rear i have stock springs, the 2" AAL from my old superlift kit, sky shackle flip, and a 1" zero-rate. The front appears to sit high by an inch. I figure itll settle out and be level. The truck still has a 3" body lift in it too.
In the front at rest i can crank the steering from lock to lock and not hit anything. The front body mounts do not appear to be an issue at all at this height. If you look closely in this pic (http://4x4.forensick.net/88bronco/images/060403/18.jpg), while the wheels arent cranked to the steering stop, you can see theyre nowhere near the body mount. W/O a body lift the core support might be an issue. The spot i took the pics in is local so i could just go back one day after work, twist it up again and see how much clearance there actually is.
I tried to snap close-up pics of the wheels turned (at rest) but they came out all fuzzy. I havent twisted it up with the wheels locked because the tires contact the back of the front fenders at full stuff.
XLTbeast 04-04-2006, 10:23 PM that thing looks bad ass:thumbup
Stokes 04-05-2006, 02:37 AM Yep, you got it. 17*10.
do you mind me asking how much those set you back? im talkin out the door shipped with the pressed center and rockring?
reptillikus 04-08-2006, 12:15 AM Um, alot :toothless Its all laid out on their site. Whats that phrase? 'If you have to ask, you cant afford it' :toothless. I basically said Fawk it, im only gonna buy rims once.
Plug, i twisted up and took a look around for ya. Tires rub the back of the front fender a teeny bit, not too bad. Im hitting the core support though. Put a small crack in the right inner fender plastic where it mounts, up front, at the outside of the fender. If its not raining ill be trimming it tomorrow so ill try to get a clear pic w/ the camera phone (yeah, right). No way in hell are they fitting w/o the body lift, or massive core support work. Front body mount is not an issue though (like it was with Larston's rig).

Awesome!
Price ain't that bad, kind of what I expected. I'd love to find something like that without the beadlock in an 8 lug 16x6" size for my trailer. Probably one of the best looking wheels I have seen yet.
SSgtTEX 04-08-2006, 12:13 PM amazing kev...now bring it back south so i can see it in person :thumbup

I didnt realize/notice you had a BL. That will make a lot of difference, but I imgine you will still rub the core support body mount. I have trimmed a lot of my core support outside of the body mounts, but still rub the mounts on full stuff. 42's would be tough to fit, but thats my goal.

i just kinda....cut out the core support completely. I was notching it, but then there wasnt much left. I still have to figure out what I am going to do for a body mount up front.

plug ugly 04-08-2006, 06:32 PM well, I know larston had to rework his, and I will have to redo mine at some point next year prolly when i go to new tires. short of relocating to the inside of frame rails, or just lifting it higher, im not sure how one could do it. Of course, if one wsa going to narrow the front end, now would be the time.

and my new frame rails are skinnier than stock, so moving the body mounts inboard is gonna be even more tricky.
plug ugly 04-08-2006, 08:06 PM what about going right on top of the frame rails. Drilling a access hole on the bottom rail to access the top. then just run a regular ford mount.
chvyboat 04-09-2006, 01:50 AM Well Butt Ugly, I know that you have to be bigger than mine, but if you look at the Iroc sizes, you may want to go with the same size tire as mine. Its just a little shorter, and a little more narrow. According to the specs.
It does have slighly less tread depth, but it is a 8 ply tire vs. a 6 ply and has a heigher weight rating.
Just a thought.
From Super Swampers site
Bais ply 42x14x17 (not offered in a Radial)
6 ply
Tread 24/32
Tread width 11.44
Width 14.8
Height 41.5
Air 25 psi
Weight rating 2900
Rim 17x10
Radial 41x14.5x17
8 ply
Tread 20/32, you have seen my tread and it has plenty.
Treat width 11.5
Width 14.2
Height 41
Air 50 psi
Weight rating 3850
17x12
This based on a 17x12 wheel, but I have a 17x9.5 beadlock rim that I run at 30. I think that on a 17x9.5 wheel, the radial may actually be taller than the bias, due to the higher psi/weight rating, more narrow rim, and the stiffer side wall due to the tire weight rating.
My point is that norrow would help you clear, and the radial I would think is as tall if not taller than the bias ply.
Hey, you would have bragging rights since your tire would have "42" printed on it.:thumbup

reptillikus 04-09-2006, 10:30 AM amazing kev...now bring it back south so i can see it in person :thumbup
Come to PA for the All Ford Nationals this June, ill be there :thumbup

Its very possible on full stuff when the wheel is turned. But, i have a stripped hub so i cant go out in 4wd and really do anything yet till i get a new one.
I was planning on moving the body mount to the top of the frame like larston did if the tire rubs on it, and then ill just hack the crap outta the bottom of the core support and weld a new plate in on the bottom to stiffen it back up. My long term goal is to get them to fit w/o the body lift, since im probably going to yank it out next winter.
chvyboat,
interesting info. I think the radials cost alot more though, right? Not a big deal here since NJ only allows up to 38s anyway (stupid lift laws), but if you could run em on the road here i mightve looked into em.
Im running 10" wide rims like the specify. Get a measurement of yours in the driveway or somethin, and ill get a # off mine and we'll see if they end up taller or not.
reptillikus 04-09-2006, 10:37 AM Awesome!

Yeah, for what they are, its a decent price. I love wagon wheels, too. Had em on my bronco when i bought it, and always missed em when i bought 10s for my 35s. So i had to go back to them when i ordered these, although they have all sorts of cool designs.
Actually, these are one of the first sets powdercoated by Stazworks (they are going to offer this as an option now). Normally they just get painted, but it took a while to get em so John did it for me and no extra cost. And they did an awesome job of it too.
chvyboat 04-09-2006, 07:30 PM Well prices allways vary from state to state, but I paid $315 each. Plus tax. No shipping. And I get the bragging rights to have the first set in cali so I am told.
I had to order them direct from swamper through good connections at 4wp. Swamper had just made a run of 30 tires. That had not even been ear marked to ship anywhere. Now on other swamper tires having a set from the first production run would have made me worried, but I have run 3 sets of Irocs so far, and can not complain about them in anyway.
I will get you some measurements so we can compare.
chvyboat 04-09-2006, 07:32 PM Ps, the tires in my avitar are 39.5's. Go to the FSB AZ run and those pics are with the 41's
reptillikus 04-09-2006, 10:44 PM That explains why your tires looked different :toothless
I didnt get my truck onto pavement today. Probably wont till tuesday, so take your time.
I guess the radials are cheaper; i got mine for $335 ea, but with no tax or shipping. Probably works out to be close to the same.
dsotmoon 04-09-2006, 11:04 PM bronco is looking awesome rept :beer :rockon
plug ugly 04-09-2006, 11:52 PM Hey, you would have bragging rights since your tire would have "42" printed on it.:thumbup]
:scratchhe , hmmmm. You know, you are right. i NEVER thought of that
