I used 1/4 plywood. I thought it insulated against sound better, easy to cut and work with. It covers easy with carpet, or other cloth material.
And it's cheap.

one side will be a panel, the other side will have a allready built sub box attached to the side of the truck, and the shape of the box will conitnue down the side and be a storage area. so it looks like a flush box and hidden storage. the back seat wont be in, so it wont get in the way.

i dont want it too be too heavy, but i want it to be strong and light

Okay ya'll, once again I will show my ignorance...what is MDF and would it make good panels or is it too heavy?

MDF = Medium Density Fiber - ideal for speaker boxes, and used as a top layer for formica when building countertops. It's not bad to use, but it can split, if you don't pre-drill your screw holes. Also, use wood glue.

Since I'm guessing you haven't used MDF before, be forwarned, it is dusty when it's cut, so I fully recommend a face mask when you cut it

I saw one guy make the whole side panels out of diamond plate. It looked pretty sweet. Heavy but sweet!
