When pulling the engine, where do you ...

On a BRONCO - (with a cherry picker) where do you put the chain when pulling the motor? Someone told me loosen header bolt(s) replace with longer ones and use them to clamp a chain link. Possibly strip or break (lotsa weight) the bolt in the head? No way! Another way: wrap the chain completely around the engine under the oil pan. Can that damage the pan? Any other options?

The only way I ever pull engines (for the last 30 years or so..) is a carb lift plate. I have one for 2V and 4V carb bolt patterns and one for bolting up to the lower manifold on 5.0/5.8 EFI motors.

Intake manifold bolts work well.

I've used the ex.man. bolts, the downpipe studs ON the ex.man.s, the vertical bar from the R ex.man. to the plenum, the water pump studs... Whatever was easy to get to & gave a good balance. Those bolts are a lot stronger than you give them credit for. A single 3/8" bolt will hold at least 3000 lbs (not bouncing; no impact), which is ~2/3 the weight of the truck.

Same,

I've always used the manifold Bolts, whether on a Bronco or other. Easier to get a balance IMO, and everything is up out of the way.
