View Full Version : gieco is a rip off!!!
rcracerx 07-04-2006, 10:00 PM We use to live in Olympia Washington, and our auto ins. was 236 a month to insure a 94 Accord full coverage and my 89 Bronco liability. As soon as I got on post houseing, the premiums jumped up to 286 a month in Ft. Lewis. Thier excuse for skyrocketing costs....higher crime rate. I seriously doubt there is that much crime on a military installation to warrent such an increase. Every one who resides in here is military, and the MP's have more leeway to arrest suspects then civilian police. Therefore, crime rate theoreticly should be less on post then off. I don't understand why they take advantage of thier costumers like this. Every one stay away from the gecko.

I dunno dude..it depends on the units, i know down here down at Ft. Hood the crime rate sucks, on base and outside the gate, rape is high, suicide rates super high, etc...
Ubermich 07-05-2006, 12:48 PM But none of those SHOULD play a role in car insurance. At the same time, however, no matter which insurance company you used, they would rip you off. That's what insurance companies do. It's not just Geico, I promise.
insurance with me driving the bronco is about $1400 a year, with just liability
thats not 2 cars, thats just the bronco, and just me.
JKossarides 07-05-2006, 01:07 PM Did they offer you the free pie and chips at least!
Insurance sucks but I only pay $31.00 a month for my Bronco through AIS -Auto Insurance Specialists -Mercury Insurance Co.
Maybe that will help?
351cleveland 07-05-2006, 01:16 PM try Cincinnati Insurance, I now they are cheaper than most....thats why I use them, for the house and auto's...they are sometimes a pain in the a$$ to get ahold of, because they are a small company....but, cheap, and they have always paid up everytime we have had an issue about weather damage or break-ins...goodluck ........
Saurian 07-05-2006, 01:17 PM I pay 115 a month for my insurance, for full coverage. It happens, youth factors in, and area does as well though who the hell is going to beak into a Bronco?
Oldyeller 07-05-2006, 03:13 PM Judging from your comments you are in the Service, so why don't you have USAA?

I agree I am not even in the military but my Dad was and I have the benefits from it and USAA beats everyone hands down...their service is great, their prices are great and they are a great company...I have my Bronco and my wife's truck insured with 100 deduct and 500 total collision and it is cheap...like $95 a month....
rcracerx 07-05-2006, 04:10 PM I had a few wrecks in the past, but one more year and they get dropped off. They won't take me till they get off my record. I'm lucky that gieco insured me, I'm just erked at the 50 buck increase for moving onpost. But at the rate I'm paying, they should give me free pie and chips lol

So you are coming on here bitching about Geico...you should be thanking them that they took you....think of it from the insurance view...why would they want to insure you if you are a risk with multiple wrecks and from what you say you are a risk...that is just guaranteeing for them to lose money....no business survives that loses money...except for the government...I don't want you on my insurance company now because you will make our rates go up....:goodfinge
And just because you still live on base doesnt mean you are not in a higher crime area....your stuff might be better protected but you still have to go off base, in the higher crime area...people do break into trucks/cars in mall parking lots and many other places...they write policies for regions not individual city blocks...
rcracerx 07-05-2006, 05:19 PM I am glad that gieco did take me, I'm not gripeing about that, just the hike for moving on post. I didn't cause any of those wrecks, butI still got shafted because I was involved.
Audra 07-05-2006, 05:57 PM Accords are one of the most stolen cars, along with what civics? that is part of your high rates.
Babaganoosh 07-05-2006, 06:14 PM call State Farm... they'll laugh at you and hang up the phone.
I'd give Bristol West or Progressive a call.. I was an "at risk" driver and they insured me at a decent rate with an SR-22
JPOutlaw 07-05-2006, 11:46 PM I've had GEICO for 19 years. Have a 2006 Accord (no deductible) just liability on the Bronc = $98/mo. It was the same deal in Texas when I lived in the "big" city. Insurance rates climb depending on your driving habits (or problems), credit history, and age. It's all gov't approved crime that we all have to pay unless we can self insure.
In fact, I just filed a claim with them the other day on-line. 40 minutes later someone had called me and had an appointment for the car -- I guess it's all relative to "luck".

??? I use state farm for all nine of my vehicles. Don't have a bit of trouble out of them, and they're pretty darn cheap. Got discounts for multiple vehicles and for having multiple lines of insurance with them (homeowners). They even gave me special levels of additional insurance for the centurions. I'll get paid the true value of the vehicles rather than the book value which cant even began to replace them. To top it off full coverage vs just liability is like a 10 buck difference every 6 months. It just seemed like a no brainer on the vehicles I actually drive (5 of them).

Holy sht - what kind of driving record do you have?? My excursion was full coverage, bronco is liability, f250 is liability, volkswagon pickup is liability, toyota pick up is liability, the boat is on there as well, and it's under $200.00 a month. I have AAA
Geico has been the best for me, at 21 years old I am payin $162 a month for Full coverage on my superduty and comp and coll on the vette. USAA wanted $285 a month for less coverage on just the superduty!!!
Project Lazarus 07-10-2006, 03:34 PM Give Nationwide a call. I've had them since I've had my license (only 5 years) and have had no problems with them. The '150 is only $28/month (only liability and still under my dad's name....whoops) and the Jeep and F250 on the same policy is around $86/month.
My parents used to have Geico. When my mom had her first accident they dropped her with no warning. Since then my parents have used Nationwide.
nbaff 07-11-2006, 12:56 PM i have progressive. it was stupid high when all of my driving problems were still on there. something like 160 a month then when all that hit the three year mark it dropped to 60 a month. that just liablity on a mazda 626 and the bronco
younganita 07-18-2006, 07:04 PM They are the worst ever. The rep's treat you as if you are a welfare recipent! I had an accident and all hell broke loose! I orginally started with Bristol West because they were much cheaper. Believe me America ...YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!! They rarely call you back and when they do...they are not customer service oriented. This is what I would call a GHETTO estabishment!!! :shocked
(I have a clean driving record)
mtthwvn73 07-24-2006, 04:36 AM You guys have it good. I'm with state farm (part time driver) and i'm paying 250 a month....Sure...I've had a couple tickets "cough...wreckless driving...cough...wanton endangerment...." but it's still pretty high. I'm glad I still have my license, but it's kinda hard to pay for gas AND insurance...i'm glad i still live at home though, they help me out a lil bit, lol.

I know that I'm reviving an old thread (time to put on the flame suit) but.....
First and foremost: You are female, and women get better insurance rates than males based on statistics.
Second: I've made a few mistakes and State Farm does'nt like to insure young adults with a non-clean record. I know that it was mere cause and effect and it was my fault, but I don't think it warranted the assclown from state farm laughing at me (literally). How's your driving record?
Third: They obviously do well for you since you have homeowners and what not from them. At the time I was living at home, and I just replaced my beater with a decent ride.
I could'nt really thank Bristol West for taking me on full coverage fresh after a wreck, and it's been somewhat affordable since in NH, stuff lasts on your record with INS companies for 3 to 5 years.
djdan 08-20-2006, 02:16 PM Geico is fine. They are no better or worse than any other insurance co.
They are all legally robbing us anyway.
I have Geico for the Bronco and pay about under $300 for an entire year. I am 29 with a clean record.
