Hey guys,
Im from northern california and my wife and I are thinking of possibly moving to loveland colorado. I have a chance to transfer to a wal-mart distribution there. So im looking for opinions, good\bad things about that area. I love cold weather and snow...and I dont get enough of that here(red bluff california). It's not uncommon for us to be the hottest in the nation during the summer....sometimes hitting 115-120 degrees. So i know the weather will be great..and I dont mind chaining the bronco up to get around =) But im basically clueless about everything else.....people...economy...churches(im a christian), crime, etc etc. So any info and or pictures of the area will help. I also want to know about the hunting and fishing of the area. What about public land to four wheel? whatever you can think of...i'd like to know. thanks alot.

Loveland is pretty nice. It is not that big (I am from St. Louis) and does have a family atmosphere for the most part, just depends on where you live. There is a Christian population here and several churches. The snow down low isn't that bad really, I got around fine without chains and only 2wd. There is TONS of fishing in Colorado, some of the best. Just in Fort Collins in the Cache la Poudre there is plenty of fishing. There is a lot of land to wheel here, Johnny Park, Pearson Park, etc... It is close to Longmont, Fort Collins, and a short 45 minute drive up into Estes Park. Basically everything big in Colorado is 45-60 minutes away. Denver is close. It is a home buyers market here, with tons of foreclosures. I like the people in Colorado. They will come up to talk to you and be friendly. In St. Louis thats almost not heard of. Everyone here is pretty laid back, very healthy, and loves being outside. Honestly unless you are in the mountains it doesn't get very cold at all...winters are mild. Last year however it was in the negatives once or twice but not too bad, my hair did freeze on the way to class after a shower. Over all I love Colorado, only state where you can go hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, off-roading, skiing/snowboarding, fishing (hunting I don't know about), camping, backpacking and so many other outdoor activities without having to load up the truck for a long trek. I suggest the move, so much better than Cali. Anymore info you want, gimme a PM.

The crime rate is rather low outside of Denver. Here in Monument (halfway between Colorado Springs and Denver) there are people who don't lock anything and leave their garage door open all the time. If you're religous, you'll love it here. It's gotta be 75-80% christian.

I live in Colorado Springs and love it. Here is some census data Colorado
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/08000lk.html

The loveland Chamber of COmmerce would be a good place to start.
I googled loveland, Co
http://www.google.com/search?q=loveland+colorado&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

I hunt and fish and there are plenty of places to do that. Lots of 4 wheel places as well.

Lots to love about Colorado.

I live in Thornton, (pretty much the extreme northern edge of Denver Metro). The best thing about Colorado is you are never more than an hours or so from anything you want to do.

I can drive less than an hour and be ski-ing (water or snow) fishing, hunting, shooting, watching an opera, shopping, etc.

The weather isn't too bad on the front range, the mountains can get pretty hairy in the winter. about 5 years ago we got snowed in over mother's day, there was pretty much 2 days of 4wd only roads, and that was it. Usually, we will get some snow, and then it is gone a few days later.

The Summers are great, you will get sunburned in a hurry up here (no air above us to absorb the rays). The fishing is unique, you can fish for bass and crappie from a boat in a lake during the morning, and then flyfish for trout in a cold mountain stream in the afternoon.

There is not too much crime compared to most any other big city, and the further away from Denver, the less there is.

Colorado Springs is a very religious town, the site of the world's first 'drive-by baptism'. Boulder is the complete polar opposite. Basically there is a little something here for everybody.

hey i have lived in colorado all my life and i love it here. i dont ever want to move away. there is hunting, fishing, and four wheeling places everywhere. i mean you can be at 10 different lakes within an hour and the fishing is great. i say you go for it and move here. as for chaining up the truck. i have never had to do it. the snow can get bad here but not bad enough for chains. so i would say go for it and move here.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have been checking back and reading them. It's been very helpful. As for other parts of colorado....I would have a job in loveland, and im not much for a commute. It sounds great, and were still thinking about it. But were taking it a little bit slower now. Going to visit in april and then go from there. I love my hometown...and i'd love to be a police officer here....so i dont know...just praying alot...and waiting for God's answer. But either way...I want to try and visit and vacation there regularly. Keep sending info if you think of any. Hunting\fishing pictures,....pictures of the area...all that good stuff.

thanks guys

Don't forget us Southern boys!! Down here in Pueblo we have some great areas nearby to wheel in :rockon the Wet Mountains, Spanish Peaks, and Sangre de Cristo wilderness areas.

Hey Poopy_Pants, what 5 speed do you have hooked up to your 4.9 six??

Not a very little town, though. Well over 100,000 now in Loveland, 100,000 more in Ft. Fun, almost that many in Greeley.
