A while go I purchased a MotorCityReman 200 Amp alternator. It is a one wire unit.

I purchased it off of Ebay with a Lifetime warranty.

I purchased it and installed it. It charged great but it made a little noise when whenever you let off of the gas and it was idleing down. It was just a mild chirp but was obnoxious.

I called them and they said send it back. We agreed that they would recieve it on a Friday, repair and send it back out that day or the following Monday at the latest, which would have it back in my hands no later than Wed.

I called them Wed. after the UPS guy didnt come at his normal time and they say "Oh yeah, we just got it done and we'll get it out today" I said "OK I need you to next day it. I need my vehicle to drive to work...They say, "Ok we will take care of you."

Thursday comes, and guess what...no alternator. It comes on Friday...they sent it Ground. The chirp that was present while I hand spun the pulley is gone. I reinstall it and now it's not charging...great. I call MotorCity and go through the conversation where they treat me like I'm a total moron...turns out it's not charging because of a shotty harness that won't stay plugged in. "Oh, you have to wiggle those sometimes", he says. What? Are you kidding me? I pull the alternator, screw with the harness and can't get it to continue to charge normally.

I call them again and they tell me they will ship me a new Alt. Today a new harness to replace the harness on my alt. that won't work shows up...not a new alternator as they said. They sent me a new harness for a broken alternator...genius.

I have to call them in the morning and basically threaten them with the BBB if they don't get me taken care of by shipping me a new alternator next day and a pre-paid tag for the piece of crap broken unit that hasnt worked since they "repaired it".

Guess what...after the alt. was on my truck for five minutes the chirp that they fixed is back...:whiteflag

You should consider a "3G" alternator from Fireguy50 who owns fordfuelinjection.com or search for some of the threads here on how and where to find them in the boneyards and get his rebuild kit.

Good Luck

IMO 'mail order' alternators is asking for trouble. Find yourself a local auto electric alternator / starter / battery shop and have them build you a 200 Amp 3G.

That's what I did.

200 Amp 3G with delta configuration double wound stator. A slight overdrive pulley (2.585 alt to crank pulley ratio). Haven't had it long enough yet to speak authoritatively about @ idle output. But cold to warm it seems to keep up with headlights, brake, lights, 6 rock lights, and dual electric fans while sitting in still in drive. We'll have to see how it does out on the trail when it's fully up to temp (hot).

What I purchased is a good quality 200 Amp 3G. It's not a bad unit, I just had the reg. go bad. It can happen to anyone.

I should state I'm not unhappy with the product as anything can happen. It's basically that IF you DO have a problem these guys are in absolutely no hurry to take care of it. It WILL get taken care of, but on their sweet ass time. They suck at call backs as well.

If these guys had good customer service these guys would have it made. The product is great.

It turns out the squeak has worked itself out as well. It was minor but I am picky.
