I have a friend that loves Chevy's and said he got a pair of dana 60's but also said they are 3/4 tons. Got them for 75 bucks each. The front doesn't look any bigger then his stock one (87 chevy) just has 8 lug is all. Now I might be mistakin but I thought dana 60's were 1 ton. He says he's done a ton of research and came up with everyone saying dana 60's are 3/4 ton.. then wtf is a one ton. I'm guessin he's full of chit.

Dana '60s weren't used under the F-250 as a front axle until '02 for sure. Used as SRW axles on the Ford F-250/350 from the '60s to about '83-'84.

Your friend might have a pair of 8 lug D44's.

f-250 snow fighter packages (I think thats what they were called), had dana 60 front axles. I know this because I just bought a f-250 today and it has a 60 under the front.

Both of my brothers are into chevys so I've helped build a few. Chevy 3/4 tons had 8 lug D44's. I beleave the only chevy with a D60 was a 1 ton.

Are we talkin chevy or ford here? All 3/4 ton chevvies got 8lug D44s or 10bolts. No exceptions.
If it was a D60 youd know right away because all chevy 60s are kingpin, and obviously the D44 & 10bolt axles use balljoints.

What would the rear be 14 bolt?

Your friend is a f*cking idiot. If he has a dana 60, which I doubt, it is a 1 ton. He probably has a 8 on 6.5 D44HD. They look similar to the untrained eye, because they are both leaf sprung, both have similar looking knuckles, and both (of course) have 8 lugs. The outer hub housings look a little similar too. I have seen what used to be my d44hdhp, next to Keiths Dana 60 and yes they looked similar but the differential is a bit larger on the 60.

look at the size of the hub, if its the same as the one on your D44 its a 3/4 ton and therefore not a D60. I know a guy that ran 38.5's on one of those and snapped a shaft while barely getting on it.

90% of the time its a 14bolt FF rear, although i have seen alot of them with a semi-floating 14bolt rear, which doesnt look like a 14bolt FF at all.

Just because its a 3/4 ton doesn't mean its not a D60
