In a moment of utter stupidity i manage to knock the mirror off my new(to me) f-150 a few months ago. I was looking around for another one and found a few pretty cheap on ebay.
I needed a passanger side mirror for a 2002 f-150, power, with chrome back. I found the cheapest one on ebay thru Auto parts network. It claimed to fit my truck. I ordered it and received the product about 1.5 weeks later.
While it looked great and was packaged well...it didn't fit my truck. The molded plastic was sticking out from the window molding about 1/2". The plastic that went around the metal part of the door was sunk too far in exposing a bend in the sheet metal that wasn't suppose to be visible. Also the power mirror would not rotate in far enough to allow me to see down the side of my truck. After further inspection i found that the new mirror was slightly smaller than my old one and had other differences in the molding. So i removed it.
I called customer support to get a return shipping label sent so i could return the item and get the correct part. They had obviously sent me the wrong item. After waiting on hold for about 15 mins a man with an accent from another country picked up. I explained my problem and told him i needed to get the item shipped back. Instead of honoring my request he began asking what type of truck i had. THe whole time it sounded like he was on a cell phone. I told him i had a 2002 f-150 xlt short bed regular cab, blah blah, down to the drivetrain specs. He asks if its a super crew, i tell him no. So he says i have the right part. I told him no i don't, it doesn't fit. We argue over this for about 5 mins, and then he finally agrees to give me an rma number to return the item. After that i ask for a shipping label. He tells me i have to pay shipping since i ordered the wrong part. I told him no i don't, i didn't order the wrong part, i was sent the wrong part not my mistake. He argues this point for a few mins, then puts me on hold and hangs up on me.
At this point im furious. I call back....im put on hold for another 15 mins. A lady with an accent then picks up. I explained what happen to her, she then begins the process over again. Asking what type of truck i have. I tell her ive already been thru this, then she asks for my VIN number. I tell her Ill have to run outside to get it. Im gone less than 2 mins, when i get back, she has hung up AGAIN.
Im beyonded pissed. I call back, put on hold for another 15 mins. Another foregin woman answers. I explain the situation. Give her my vin, describe my truck again. She says i have the right mirror, I tell her it doesn't fit. She tries to give me another RMA number. I asked her about the shipping. She says i have to pay it and i refuse. And i cite the back of their shipping slip which states that the customer doesn't have to pay return shipping if the product is sent in error and it is handled within 2 business days of recieving the product. This was 2 hours after recieving the mirror. She says they will not pay shipping unless i provide proof. So I took pictures of the old mirror and new mirror. And emailed them to their email address. Email fails. Do it again. Still fails. I call back and get another address. Sent it to it and it goes thru. Lady says they need 30 mins to look at the pictures and they will call back. I give them an hour and 1/2. No call.
I call them back. wait on hold for another 10 mins. Ask for lady i spoke with before. Put on hold. 10 mins later she picks up. She admits that the mirror is slightly different. She asks if it won't work. I tell her I CAN"T SEE DOWN THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK. Im put on hold for 10 mins. She comes back and says they will send me a return shipping label and credit my account because they can't figure out which mirror they need to send me. I give her my email address and she says the label will be there in about an hour. I check my email the next day. No label. Next day, no label. 2 days still no label. I call back, they send it again. I get it in 15 mins. I sent it back and finally got credited back a few days ago.
I ordered another mirror from a different online parts store, it fit great.
After doin some further research i believe i was sent a supercrew mirror since it was slightly smaller, but theres no way to confirm this.
I know i kind of ramble, but this whole processed ate up a friday afternoon from 5:00pm-11:00pm and many other 30 min sessions. Customer service was not helpful and rude.
