Well its not mine but my girlfriends mom just bought a '97 grand am. Does anyone know about these cars and how good of a car they are?

My old man has a '98 V6. He babies it and it does him just fine. I think he's had a couple of exhaust/check engine lights but nothing extreme or expensive. He's had his for many years and still gets good mileage (he just changes the oil).

does it have the quad 4 or the 6?

If its a 4 i can almost guarantee you'll have ignition trouble.

I don't like anything front wheel drive, so I'm going to say its a gay car

had a 96, it did everything i ever asked it to do. which was a lot sometimes.
also good in a front end collision i found out. expensive to repair all that plastic bumper, grille and hood though.

I had taken my sisters 95 for a while, and after her beating the piss out of it, it still ran and averaged 26 mpg. but no room in the rear what so ever, that has to exclude it from being a "gay" car.

there junk...plastic front ends that dont hold up in an accident....

I call them GRAVY BOATS. I had one. Drove it normal with the 6 banger trying to get good mieage. Changed the oil every 3000 miles. Went through 3 head gaskets. Every 6 months id blow a gasket and it would turn my oil to look like turkey gravy. My grand dad had one had major problems with the head gasket and overheating. Ill never own one again.....

My mom and dad just traded their 95 in. They had zero problems with it, even after gettin side-swiped by a dump truck. That was in 96 and it was all repaired. It was just 11 years old and time for a new vehicle is the only reason they got rid of it.

A friend of my had a G-Am and she hated it. I think she sold it outright (without fixing it) after the motor blew (she ran the piss out of it).
