View Full Version : Need your opinion on selling price for my old F350
MikE2 10-27-2006, 11:51 PM I really hate these "whats my truck worth" threads, but I'm gonna do one anyways. Actually I kind of have an idea what its worth, I just need a conformation, or tell me I'm out of my ****ing mind.
Vehicle in question here is my 79 F350 4x4. I love the truck, and I hate to sell it, but I think this is best for me, and the truck. I don't have the time for it, and this doesn't fit in to my new plans now, so I'm hoping someone that has the money and effort will give her what she deserves.
So anyways, what I'm wondering is if I would be out of my ****ing mind if I advertised this at $5000?
I know its an old truck, and it ain't in the best shape, but its a ultra rare bird, and that has to be worth something because of that. Just the fact that its rare WAS worth something to me when I bought, in fact thats the only reason I bought it, so even though I payed through the nose for it I still felt like I stole it. And everyone that knows anything bout old Ford trucks even tells me I stole it. The people that don't know are the ones that told me I was stupid for paying that much for an old clunker. So I'm thinking its a fair price for someone, like me when I bought it, thats looking for something different, and not just an old pick-up. If It was I wouldn't be able to get anything over $1500, but for what this is, I think my $5000 might not be out of the question for the right buyer.
If it is, what do you think would be better?
If you havn't seen it yet, here it is

The interior is in sad shape

The reason I say this is rare, is this is the one and only F350 4x4 extended cab I have ever seen. I have seen a very limited few F250's just like this, and I have seen F350's just like this in 2 wheel drive, but not a F350 4x4, with the extended cab, and its a Lariat to boot.
Its got the 400 and runs great, very reliable, just not a lot of power. C6 transmission and the 203 Full time T-case. After having something with full time 4 wheel drive, I love it. If I could, I'd have it on everything. Its got the dual fuel tanks which hold a ****ing shitload of gas, cruise control, A/C works but doesn't blow cold, no radio, Interior is in bad shape, No carpeting, seat is ripped, weatherstripping falls out every time I open the door.
It does have a 4" Skyjacker lift, which is 4 leaf springs. No blocks, it also has a dropped pitman arm, and offset adjustable drag link. Everything with the lift was done right, and it shows with how well this drives. Even at 85-90 MPH (which is about as fast as I can get it up to) it rides and drives like a Cadillac.
The tires have 30-35% tread, ProComp A/T's 305x70-16 (33x12.50-16)
Nothing major wrong with it except the interior and the A/C not working.
I will have the truck smogged too. It also has a Prodigy brake controller and a 7 pin RV plug.
So give me your thoughts here
11jdsummerfield 10-28-2006, 12:07 AM Well, personally I agree with you on what it's worth. If you're in the position to wait a year or so until someone else who knows its value comes around, than you should be able to get that.
MikE2 10-28-2006, 12:23 AM If you're in the position to wait a year ......
Thats exactally what I was thinking. I really can't wait a year. I'd like to get as much for it as possible, but at the same time I need the truck gone by 2007 so I might have to price it to sell
BurnedB 10-28-2006, 12:33 AM tad high, maybe some one would bite, but expect to get around 4k for it..... my opinion. a newer seat would do ALOT.....
MikeW 10-28-2006, 12:34 AM New seat would justify 5 grand
Bronco Rob 10-28-2006, 01:17 AM i didn't read anything, i think you should just give it to me
Need4racin 10-28-2006, 01:44 AM If you cleaned up the interior I would say 5k is a fair deal for both sides.
Handy_andy_cv64 10-28-2006, 01:49 AM I'd start at 5K, and go no lower than 2.5K. The exterior is good and the supercab is rare on a 1 ton, but the interior is what holds you back and reduces the price.
MikE2 10-28-2006, 02:32 AM Yeah I definitely need to work on the interior. I think this weekend I'll work on cleaning it up and glueing the weatherstripping back down. I also got an appointment wednesday to get it smogged.
seemoremud 10-28-2006, 03:27 AM Well the front axle goes for atleast a grand by itself :thumbup
5K sounds like a good starting point, especially if the interior was cleaned up
I think it's a fair starting price. It's just a bad time to be selling anything.
I myself would love to own it but two many projects now and a new home that is almost built.
On a side note I have only seen one pre 79 F350 4x4 truck and it was a standard cab.
LarryP 10-28-2006, 09:08 AM Ill give you 3 grand for it right now Mike And it will get a good home.
If i didn't just buy a 4x4 Van i would pay your "price" I think it would be a steal.
jackhart 10-28-2006, 11:35 AM i'll always pay a little bit more for a truck where everything is in order...i'm with everyone else...if that interior was minty fresh (fresh weatherstripping, new or reupholstered seats, carpet, etc), i'd probably pay even more than $5 grand for it, might go as high as $6500 (same reasoning as you when you bought it).
as it sits right now, i would give ya $3500, assuming it's mechanically perfect.
good luck with the sale, if you were on the right coast, i would probably snap it up myself.
With a new seat and a good once over the interior you would be within reason. Nice truck, I'd never seen it before.
MikE2 10-29-2006, 01:47 AM I think I'm going to order some carperting for it. That might be $200 or so for it, and its the biggest thing missing from the interior so with it in there it will make a big difference. Then I might just put a seat cover on the seat and see how it looks that way.
sewiv 10-29-2006, 01:02 AM An afternoon spent detailing the interior wouldn't hurt, either. Sharp truck.
Ptack1 10-29-2006, 01:39 AM man, fix that interior and Ill buy it from you in 2 to 2 and a half years. I love those bigs truck. And Like you said, i never seen one with an extended cab either.
But id say with a new seat, 5k would be about right.
Maelthra 10-29-2006, 02:54 AM dude, how much rust is on that truck? Supercabs are pretty rare in the 78-79 variety, so if you find the right person (Aka me) you could probably get a pretty penny from it.
as said before, fixing the interior would bring in alot more money, along with passing Smog on it. But isn't a 79 pre-smog?
jopes 10-29-2006, 11:20 AM well you could try posting it on PJB. I know people over there would nearly kill for a truck like that. Then there is always Ebay. but honestly I doubt your going to get more than 2500 for it.
WheelinElvis 10-29-2006, 11:38 AM why carpet it?
put you money into the seat- and herculine the floor.
detail the interior- and post it for 5k easy!
if the a/c blew cold... id bite on that deal for 5-5500k.

Just found this one. Not taken care of at all. I'd like to snag this one and grab the axles.

I think Mikes truck is rust free.
And as for the Smog it would have tobe a pre 75

That Would just be a CRIME If someone did that with Mike's Truck:twak :twak
THats why ill have to buy it.

Its gotta be smogged, but its kind of has a little loop hole because of the year and the GVW, so it doesn't need much smog equipment. Only thing on it is an EGR valve and an air pump, and I had to have that replaced when I bought it for it to pass smog so there shouldn't be any problem.
Theres surface rust underneath, and one small hole has devoleped right on the drivers floor, but everything else around it is very solid. On the bottom of the supercab on each side theres a small bubble in the paint, which I'm guessing is rust underneath, but thats it. Everything else is solid on it

Whats PJB?
I was going to put a "for sale" sign on it and park it at work, along with advertising it in the Truck Trader and Craigs List.

aceI thinkcarpeting the interior would make it look better. If you saw the picture, the floor was already Herculined when I bought it, and I think it looks gay. I think if it was carpeted it would make it 90% better. I see what happens with the seat. I might just put a cover on it that matches the interior and call it good.
And about the A/C, funny part is I'm a refrigeration tech, and I have access to every kind of refrigerant ever made. So why I havn't found the leak and charged it up yet is beyond me:wacko

So yea then you have all the test and leak detection chit!!
So Doing something about it would be adding the your never ending list of projects:rofl:

That list is actually very short to almost nonexistant now. I'm going to be keeping it that way too

those axles are not worth more than 300-400 for both.

78F150!! 10-29-2006, 06:22 PM Beautiful truck. My pants got tighter just lookin at it;) . Your crazy for sellin it, probably never have the oppurtunity to buy another. But you do what you gotta. Ive been there and sold my prized possesions for dirt cheap prices. Around here you could pull 5K easy. Even easier if the interior was tidied up a bit. BEautiful truck.
MikE2 12-07-2006, 09:22 PM Well heres the seat. What ya think?

In case you forgot what it looked like...
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/457441/fullsize/100_2157.jpg
I'd definitely say money well spent
damn those look alot better :thumbup
MikE2 12-08-2006, 01:25 AM Smells better too. I can't wait to get it in there. Still gotta install the new back window, all the padding, insulation, sound deadener and the heat shields, the new carpeting and the back seat, then I'll get the new front in there. Probably have it done in 3 weeks or so
Hopper 12-08-2006, 02:06 AM If I were you, I'd keep it. I've never seen another like it either. If it were me and I sold it, I would kick myself for the rest of my life (but I am really werid like that).
I say put it up for something like $5500 or so, an offer you can't refuse. Then wait until someone bites or you decide not to sell it.
If I had $5k I would buy it off of you in a heart-beat, but unfortunatly I am poor.
Anyway, keep it. If my circumstances improve in the far future, I'll come get it :toothless
locopny 12-08-2006, 02:54 AM damn you Mike.
how dare you post this in a thread where you think of selling it....just gonna make me want it. Do things to it like install my new 460 and put a camper on it....
seriously, this is gonna be one of those that you tell yourself "I shouldn't have let it slip away" .
There is a neglected 79 350 2WD down here in SoCA advertised for $1200 to move. looks like it has many of the same options otherwise.
Dustin 12-08-2006, 10:17 AM wanna deleiver to AZ?
Very rare indead, I say keep it but I know how that goes, when you gotta get rid of something or loose interest you gotta move on. That would be a nice little project to fix up and it really wouldnt take much. I wouldnt mine having it
sewiv 12-08-2006, 12:30 PM That seat and some carpeting will make a huge difference. Definitely a 5G truck at that point.
Fix the AC, too, since that's getting more and more expensive for the average joe to do. Bad AC on an old truck == $200+ to fix for me, if there are leaks, and that affects what I'd pay for the truck.
I'd buy it if I didn't already have my Bronco.
MikE2 12-08-2006, 08:18 PM If I were you, I'd keep it.......
......I say put it up for something like $5500 or so, an offer you can't refuse.
Thinkin about keeping it but I still don't know. I figure this way at least its fixed up if I keep it or sell it, which willl benefit both ways. I might advertise it for some outrageuosly stupid price and if someone does want it for that, good for me. If not, I still get to keep it then.
wanna deleiver to AZ?............That would be a nice little project to fix up and it really wouldnt take much. I wouldnt mine having it
For anyone in the gay "Arizona crew" I'll personally deliver it.
Thats the nice thing about it not being a half ton truck. Its already got D60's on leafsprings and putting a D70/80 or 14 bolt in the rear is a piece of cake. A 460 is an easy bolt in swap, Wheelbase is long enoufgh so you will never have any driveshaft issues like Broncos do. Only thing I know many people do not like is the 203 T-case, but putting a 205 in is just as easy as swapping the rear end. Only real problems with it is the body. Theres rust bubbles at the bottom of the supercab and on the right side it rusted all the way through so theres a hole there about the size of a penny. The hole is on the back though, between the bed and cab. The top of the bed is dented where a 5th wheel fell on it, and the passenger door is dented too but thats all easy stuff to fix if it were to get painted.
Only other thing is the engine does have some miles on it, but it still runs great.
That seat and some carpeting will make a huge difference. Definitely a 5G truck at that point.
Fix the AC, too, since that's getting more and more expensive for the average joe to do. Bad AC on an old truck == $200+ to fix for me, if there are leaks, and that affects what I'd pay for the truck.
Yeah I got carpeting and everything else for a brand new interior. Including a CD player
Hopper 12-09-2006, 11:19 PM Another allegedly 4wd crew-cab. (http://www.truckworld.com/4x4-OffRoad/04-Mike_V_ford/04_mike_v_ford.html)
It's all fawked up now though :cry. It's not a 78/79 either, so it may not count.
SUPERJUNK 12-10-2006, 12:32 AM Mike, all I have to say it's a sweet truck.I would hold on to it.Its in great shape,it will only go up in value.
But,if you need to get rid of it go with Ebay.I have seen alot less go for so much more than what your lookin to get.
I just hope some jackass with money doesn't buy it for the front 60 and scrap the rest.Don't laugh I've seen it happen..
BTW the seat looks great.I hope it's as comfy as it looks..
Need4racin 12-10-2006, 12:53 AM nice mike,
simple green and water will clean that interior right up. You'd be surprised how good quick interior detailer or nxt interior shine by meguiars makes the interior pieces look after you clean them.
