moved this during work today from the firehouse it burnt at to a chicago auto auction.
thinking about bidding on it, and rebuilding it as a HD tow vehicle for pulling my trailers.
any thoughts.
its a 2001 IH crew cab single axle tractor. Air brake, 530DT engine, and the big allison automatic. fire chief told me it had about 13k on the clock.
cab is totaled out, but everything else looks pretty much intact. hood is good and intact as well as the drivetrain, but cab and cab wiring is all toast, alot of air lines all melted in that area also.
what do you think would be a fair price to pay for it at auction? i kow i can rebuild it, dont know if i would stick another crew cab on it, or install a regular cab and a sleeper, as i would like to register it as a RV plate in IL to keep it affordable.

The 530 is a pertty badass engine. It would be a good project if your looking for something to do.
If thats a 4900 no one with a Class C can drive it. Another thing to think about

ya, i now, its a powerhouse!!!
if i register it as a motorhome anyone can drive it in IL, if it doesnt you need a class b with air brake endorsement, but as you can see, thats no problem for me........... i got a A with hazmat, tank, double's and triple's...

that would be pretty sweet. If you can afford to bid on it, i would, especially if you have the means to rebuild it.

anybody else think its ironic that the fire truck burnt in the fire station?
think i found a 99 crew cab with interior for it for 1800.
im kinda worried about all the junk stuck to the hood, but i would probably just leave it unelss this model has the drop out grill.

Nice truck, too bad about the fire. I would do it up, but keep it looking like a piece of fire apparatus.

I was just wondering if they had to call 911 and wait to be dispatched before they put the fire out.
