View Full Version : Check in the mail scam
bnkrtstk 10-30-2006, 03:56 PM My wife called me to tell me she received a check in the mail for roughly $4G. All we had to was call this number 416-832-8593 for more info. So we call and get an African sounding man telling us to deposit the check and call back to authorize the tax payment from our account. Once I told him I was going to check with the FBI to make sure it wasn't a scam he hung up. So if you get bored call this # 416-832-8593 and ask for Mark Anthony.
claim OSA25602
Am't $33,000
AM't of check was $4,950
Tax due of $2900
Oldyeller 10-30-2006, 03:58 PM ha ha ha, I'll get drunk and call him.
PHANT 10-30-2006, 04:00 PM I say you deposit it and see what happens
p54519 10-30-2006, 04:44 PM DO NOT DEPOSIT THAT CHECK! :twak Those are counterfeit checks. If you deposit it, you'll get a call from the FBI, Secret Service, and the FRB (Federal Reserve Board). They won't prosecute you, but it's better to not be in their system.

I know better than that. I called the Philadelphia field office of the FBI and they said there is nothing they can do because there are too many scams like this to chase. So I called and had some fun with the guy.

I've gotten two in the last two months (a little different variation). They told me the same thing. If you want to be a good samaritan, call the bank that it drawn off of and send it to them. That way they will be alerted to the fact that their checks are being counterfeited.
Ralphenstein 10-30-2006, 04:58 PM Somebody post this on Pirate...

Also,
Both times my CC numbers have been stolen and used and whored out were in Toronto, there seems to be a faction of E-criminals and such up there.
