Ok, so that therapy group I used to volunteer for has been offered a 1953 8N or 9N Ford tractor. And of course them remembering me being the mechanically inclined one asked for my help and opinion.

It needs a new gas tank and the site bowl for the fuel is broke off.

It's a flathead 4 Ford engine. He said he had no doubts that with a new gas tank it'd fire right up.

The one thing I know is dangerous is the PTO for the bushog runs off the differential and when I asked buddy if it had a clutch override so the bushog wouldn't push when you tried to stop, he didn't seem to know what I was talking about.

Basically I'm needing to find a Ford tractor website or forum. I kinda doubt, even if it is a freebie if they should take on this thing. They really need a tractor with a bucket, so they can move the manure pile.

Did you check out MTF? There are actually a bunch of guys there that work on N series tractors and are always willing to help out someone in need. I'm a mod over there.

i have an 8N ford with that flathead 4 in it. it needs to be restored, a buddy of mine does it as a hobby so thats the spring time project. i can ask my buddy next time i see him, i'll see him for sure opening day, november 15th.

he has one that is fully restored, from what he said its real easy to work one, just hard to find parts.

Yeah, I registered at MTF. Probably make a post tomorrow, just did some reading tonight.

Also found a gas tank for almost $200. I don't think this tractor will benefit them as much as the "free" price tag may suggest. I think for a horse farm, you really need a tractor with a front end bucket on it first.

Plus a tiny part of me hates the fact they might not appreciate the value of this tractor like a collector/restorer would.

The TW series is my cup of tea. I'm also good with the X700 series. Pretty much any Ford from the 80's, before all that Genesis crap (fawking computers).

Mels, you call the system a front end loader, the bucket is only a part :toothless

I've seen 8Ns with push-blades, but never a loader. I'd look into a 6600 or something of that nature for loader work...

cable or hydro setup?

it was a hydro. could really tell it was an ancient setup, but it was a ford setup made for that tractor.

Yeah, I know. My dad has worked for CAT for 35 years, I know about front end loaders, but last night I was at a loss for words on this whole thing.

Another good place is the tractor shed, www.tractorshed.com I helped my dad restore an 8N its a pretty sweet ol tractor, we got all of our replacement parts from Cooks Tractor supply in Clinton Mo. They sell parts all over the U.S.
I personally have a 1958 Volvo Krabat, its rare in the states, its little bigger than a 8N and has alot more HP.
you should be able to get parts for that fairly easy.

you may be able to search around those forums mentioned and tell people on those what is happening, and they may donate ya any parts they have layin around you need.

good luck, we have an 8N at work and its nice, but no power steering SUCKS!!

Theres a shitload of the ole 8n/9n jubilees floating around. very popular/common tractor. And at least around me about every other one has a hydro loader setup.

Honestly they don't have a problem picking shit up, its the actually driving foward into the pile to get a bite, you need something with weight on the ass, thats why most backhoes/loader combos work so well at taking big bites.

An 8N was the first tractor I ever got to play with.
