View Full Version : Half Doors started
da_offroadnut 11-05-2006, 10:17 PM Hey guy's figured I would post up some pics of the half doors that I started on this weekend. I already got the quick pins done, used 3/8'x5 in bolts and cut them down and drilled a hole for the cotterpin. The stock doors are in stock form and these half doors I picked up for free from a friend, all I had to do was cut them up. this is the begining they still have some work left.

redbeast9 11-06-2006, 01:35 AM Looking good and please keep us updated. How do you plan on finishing the door out?
da_offroadnut 11-06-2006, 10:19 PM still have to skin the inside and top of where I cut it, that is just the basic look of it, alot more to come. Should be done by this weekend.
84excursion 11-15-2006, 02:47 PM Hey i would recommend welding a support long ways through the middle of your door while installed and shut on your Bronco.
I had made two sets for mine both basicly skins, and the passenger door won't close and stay shut properly, warped/ bent because of no longitudinal support.
I put 3/16" plate accross the top, so i could stand on the doors and crawl out dukes style.

da_offroadnut 12-09-2006, 08:00 PM I figure I would give you guy's an update, been busy around here, but I finally got back to this project. I finally finished my half doors. I know they are not perfect, learning to weld thin sheet metal for the first time. here they are let me know what you think.

sammy_o0 12-09-2006, 08:22 PM I like the look of the insides of em, looks a lot more professional then a few I've seen.
redwagon 12-09-2006, 08:56 PM Looks really good, they came out sweet.
redbeast9 12-10-2006, 03:25 AM They look great. Is there anything you would changed? Asking because I plan on makeing a set in the spring and only want to do it once. Nice job!
b0bj0e 12-10-2006, 03:54 AM Are those cup holders on the top of the doors?
reptillikus 12-10-2006, 01:10 PM Looks like they came out good. Just out of curiosity....why are the doors cut differently?
WheelinElvis 12-10-2006, 03:53 PM those cup holders are SWEET!
i think he cut the doors different to cover the sides of the dash... thats what it looks like after extencive reviewing...
ace
da_offroadnut 12-10-2006, 06:40 PM Thanks, yes they are cup holders. I saw them on someone's doors and had to have them. as for the doors being cut different, I pretty much got lazy, and ran out of sheet metal and mig wire. I got to the end and just wanted them done. but hey if it covers the dash, cool it works, I'm all about function. Would I change anything, nope. Just research everyone's else's and make what you want.
Chevy_Stomper 12-10-2006, 06:49 PM Very nice. Wanna make me a set :)
Look good. My only question is why soo low? I've bin thinking bout doing this to a spare set for the wifes but I was thinkin of cutting it on the top of the beltline. I'ts only a couple inches higher, but would be more cumfee for the arm, unless your looking for comlete arm freedom.
84excursion 12-14-2006, 11:49 AM I think the square cut on the drivers door is ugly.
looks loike a very painful place to hurt yourself, going "dukes of hazard" style out of you Bronco.
nice work though:thumbup
moldmaker 12-14-2006, 05:30 PM ever notice how on every forum there is always someone out there just waiting to to dog somebody's work or find something wrong with what they did. if all your gonna do is dog someone's project or idea out shut the **** up. These forums were meant for idea sharing and encouragement if you ask me. By the way those doors look good.
Davids78Bronco 12-14-2006, 05:42 PM This is just another example of "eat the meat, spit out the bones". That happens on every single message board ever created, no matter what the topic, so no need to get pissy, here. But thanks for sharing your opinion
plug ugly 12-14-2006, 05:56 PM ever notice how on every board there is always someone who is willing to stand up for everyones rights and pick a fight over it? If all you are going to do is tell someone off and not contribute anything to a thread, then
the **** up. These forums were meant for idea sharing if you ask me. By the way those doors look good.
now that we are hopefully done making comments.
Dukes of hazzard? Come on, who can dukes of hazard into al ifted rig? and why would you want to? Ill go in and out my doors if I am really crossed up somehwere or off camber, but otherwise, its way easier using the door. How would you have cut them 84excursion, just out of curiosity since you dont like this design?

I definitely cant :histerica
I did climb out one once though because i was parked next to a tree (traffic jam due to a stuck truck) and couldnt open the door :toothless

Whoaaa, whooooaaaa.
I am not dogging him, He asked "what do you think?"
And I just don't like the boxy edge on the front of the drivers door.
Two pics of my bronc, and tuff truck, both have half doors.no boxed cuts, just a strait angles, no sharp corners.
First pic was when I was stuck in a mud bog up past the trim line, and I got in and out, "Dukes style" I could not open the doors.
second is of my tuff-truck, in and out the "window" of the half door everytime.
Crawling in and out while stuck up to your armpits in mud is no time to rip the seat out of your pants on a sharp door corner.

Dude sorry i did not write a novel for my last post explaining better why i did not like your box cut. You doors are almost identical to my three sets i have made. i like your doors, that why i included the thumb up smilley face:thumbup

sorry to the moderator about the off topic comments
plug ugly 12-14-2006, 09:17 PM 84ex, why did you not cut your doors a little lower? I know for the type of wheeling I do, it wouldnt be much advantage with the shallow cut you have
To eachs own! Looks good! Good Work! You'll like them for greater open feel, trail visability, and yet they will still keep brush and braches off your lower parts. But who needs stinkin' doors??
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/434808/fullsize/broncon.jpg
I am going to make small tube doors skinned in sheet metal to go down low and a window that opens up hinged towards the windshield. Both will be easily removed and stowed but allow me to weather-in for trips to the trails at speed.
crackhead 12-15-2006, 01:15 PM I really like that idea.. Keep us posted..
Aurorabusa 12-15-2006, 01:15 PM How do you roll the windows up??? Looks nice
da_offroadnut 12-15-2006, 11:36 PM reading all the replys has been entertaining for me. I know not everyone will like my opinion on things and vise versa, but I do thank everyone for their opinion and comments which is what I asked for. As for the doors being so low, we'll only cuz that's how I wanted them. I read up on a lot other peoples doors and decided that this is how I wanted them.
84excursion- I don't like the cut on the drivers door either it's going to get fixed to match the other side at a later time. that day I just wanted them done, and ran out of metal and mig wire. I was planning to add some padding and all weather fabric to the top of the doors at a later date. Beside's I wanted to get out and test the suspension that day and see how the coil overs worked and if I liked the spring rates.
Wheel it so you can fix it!
