any hp 44 from a 76 -79 f150 or 78/79 bronco and rear 9inch
or buy an 8 lug front hp 44 from any f250 and rear dana 60 from the same years of truck.
or spend big money and buy a 78/79 hp 60 for the front and either a sterling 10.25 for the rear from a superduty or a chevy 14 bolt for the rear.

what is hp 44? you mean a dana 44, if so i dont even see that as being worth the time and money, i have to 79 ford 4by that i could use for that, a bronco and an f150, but is it that much better? i still cant run lockers or anything bigger than like a 36? i am not an extreme off roader, i like trails, some climbing, and a little mud, so i dont really need a bullet proof truck, but i would like a pretty strong truck, just so when the day comes i push a little harder than the day before, i dont have to walk home,

also, a friend is selling me a rear axle from a 97 F-350 (dana 60) is that worht it for 200 bucks, or would the cost of bypassing VSS be way to expensive

what is hp 44?

HP in this case means High Pinion. The input yoke on the differential is above the centerline of the axleshafts as opposed to below it like in most setups. The ring and pinion are also 'reverse cut' and are not interchangeable with standard, low-pinion style axles.

If its out of a '97, it'll be a Sterling 10.25 and will have the VSS just like your 8.8. You should be able to just plug it in and go. :thumbup

i heard that from someone else, but the guy selling it says he was told it was a dana 60, how would i tell, and being plug and play i quess 200 bucks is a good deal???


this question depends mostly upon what you want to spend on it. search and you will probably answer your own question. = as far as this goes, i have limits, but at the same time, i want to wheel, hard, i deploy about twice a year and save major money during those times, i jus got back in Sept 22 from Iraq, i bought the Bronc while i was there, bought it from my brother, i got it for 2500, i also got an extra transfer case, and a bunch of peices to a lift kit, most of it is superlift, but i cant be for sure if the front part iws for a bronc or a bronco 2, dont care i wont use it, but i already have the springs and stuff,

i just did some checking and confirmed that the rear axle should be a 10.25, i am just waiting on a response from the guy as to if it was the original axle, sure it was, thats awesome, so it should plug and play, now i need to get on the hunt for a front axle,

being completely new to axles and what not, i know the specs on a dana 44 say no lockers and not much above a 35in tire, what is it for a 60 front and a 10.25 rear, all i really want is to lock it up and run anywhere from a 36 to like a 39, most likely, 37s unless i can hurry up and get some money or my friends build up takes longer than he wants, he offered to sell me 4 38 swampers with rims for $800, all brand new, they were bought and placed on his toyota that is nowhere near finished, so they have less than a mile on them

ok guys, not to sound pitiful, but i dont understand this one bit, i know i want a dana 60, but i dont understand king pins versus knuckles, open closed, yeah i am confused, so guys, is there anywhere i can just see a list of what will work and what wont, like i dont know what offset i need, like passenger side, drivers side, center, i am so confused, PLEASE HELP

Im sure when you get the axle and ready to get it in, Ken will gladly help you, and he has been bitching for me to come down the way, that I would probably help you. (just 6 hours north approx, unless im at my reserve base, Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL, then 3 hours)

actually, as of today, that is the 1st, we now belong to the 1st Special Operations Wing, big whooptie do right, the post thing could be cuz i am an AF cop (thats like half Army) or it could be cuz i was deployed with Army for 8 mths?? who knows?
