View Full Version : Mobile "Detailers"
Froggmann 11-17-2006, 02:01 PM I just had my truck done for the first and last time by a mobile detailer. I knew I shouldn't had tried it again. First time I had them do a vehicle was when I ended up with my father's PT. They did a poor job then. Well just yesterday I tempted fate again with my truck, this time a piss poor job the passenger side was still a mess, the spare tire looks like shit and the knocked off my rear view mirror! They then still had the gall to charge me 25 bucks. Knew I should have taken it to the car wash down the street from my house I know they do a better job.
Well I reattached the rear view mirror last night and this morning fixed most of the f-ups that I didn't catch last night. Hell all it takes is some detailing solution and maybe 3 minutes to do a good job. Figures when I asked the guy about the mirror and he didn't give a flying ****. Just a bad business man. And to tell you the truth I'm never using these guys again.
Oh and for you guys that say just do it yourself, I normally do but I hate doing the vacuming. I just simply hate doing the interior period.
jerelight 11-17-2006, 02:46 PM I know what you mean..I have recently thought of paying someone to detail my truck...I usually spend about a full day cleaning up my 250. But then I think of what might happen and forget about it then.
Buddy of mine and I did this for about a year while in college. But we kicked a$$!
We would schedule about 4 - 5 cars or 2 - 3 motorhomes a day. Full detail inside and out. Cars were $100 and motorhomes were between 200 - 400.
Cost us $2000 to get setup with equipment and supplies and about 500 per month in supplies. Majority of it was cash so our beer fridge was always stocked.
ScorpionBoy 11-17-2006, 04:26 PM look up real detailers in town. $25 is too cheap for a good job. outfit here named 'twinkle car' (kinda gay name) charges over $100, but it looks like new machine. they clean everything including engine. just fyi.
Froggmann 11-17-2006, 05:01 PM THese guys are detailers that do quick car washes at local busineses. Common thing around here. But for my 25 bucks I expect the dammed truck to be clean not mostly clean with a bunch of dirt smudges on it. Hell it's WHITE HOW DO YOU MISS BLACK DIRT SMUDGES ON A WHITE TRUCK!
TO tell you the truth I used to do a better jof of this when I was 13 and older washing the family members cars and later on when I used to work at a body shop washing and quick detailing customer's cars.

oh, i totally hear ya. i can't tell you how aggravated i have been over the last few years because it seems like nobody takes their job seriously. maybe i should stop going with the lowest bidder all the time or something, but it seems to be everyone does their stuff half-assed anymore. i am glad it isn't just me...
1clean5.8 11-17-2006, 05:52 PM I just do it my self Im too picky when it comes to that stuff
miesk5 11-18-2006, 09:13 AM we do it ourselves; instead of a vg detailing by a shop for $125.00 (wash, strip wax and stains, polish, wax, exterior) we bought a Porter Cable Random Orbital Buffer and supplies
Sixlitre 11-18-2006, 12:21 PM Only time I go near pros
is to have dents removed by the Auto dentist. Money very well spent IMO.
As far as detailing inside and out I make it my business to learn all the tricks and do it myself.
Nobody cares as much about your vehicle as you do, NOBODY !

MikE2 11-18-2006, 01:59 PM If they told me it would only be $25 I would have expected a pisspoor job too. A good detailing job should be $100 at least, if its a crewcab long bed, with a full polish job, carpet and seats shampooed, more like $300
Kitty 11-18-2006, 03:14 PM i detailed crew trucks coming off of rig sites
you want to talk about gross, dirty disgusting and hazardous to clean
and for 5 days a week 10 hours a day it was my job to make those trucks look like they were going back out on the show room floor again.
most detailers do such a shitty job cuz they give up caring. it's a damn hard job. it's very hard on your body and mind as well when all you do day in and day out is clean out someone else's mess.
i'm not saying what they did is right, just sharing some insight as to why they did such a piss poor job.
Audra 11-18-2006, 10:00 PM I will never let a detailer touch one of my trucks again. 380 dollars and he cracked my valance. A rare original manufacturer only part of a company no longer in business. I was enraged. There is no nice way to put it I went off on the guy. I paid him and never let someone else wash my trucks again.
Just so y'all know yeah he offered to buy a new one but that doesn't ****ing help when it is a part that cannot be bought.

ditto, i would expect shit for anythingunder $100
what do yo uexpect for $25.
i wouldnt wash your truck by pissing on the outside of it for $25
92blackxlt 11-18-2006, 11:13 PM I detail my own stuff. During the winter we run the Baja and the Bronco (previous truck, our 92 is not on the road yet) through a local touchless car wash ever 5 days or so (they have a 5 day guarantee-basically, bring it back within 5 days and get a free wash). Just because I HATE being cold. I don't like letting them dry it though...
MikE2 11-19-2006, 12:55 AM I will never let a detailer touch one of my trucks again.
Have you heard the story on why I had to have my truck detailed a few months ago, including shampooing the seats?
If it happened to you, you also would have had a pro do.
