While building a set of sliders tonight I had this hair brained idea while looking at my scrap pile. I found a misbent peice of tube on my rack and decided to cut it up and do a little mock up of a slider idea that popped into my head. Hell who knows maybe its the next hot setup. I figure someone has to like it, Its differnet thats for sure

pretty cool looking. explain the point of the non-equidistant spacing, i just wanna see your thought process

differnt design is all. there would be some support like a crossbar in the wider area too however

Looks good to me. I'd run a set like that. I'm currently building a set of my own. Hopefully they work.

I can see dogonmutt using that, and getting stuck, permanently :toothless

I think it looks cool and would make a good step. Like you suggest, it may give your rig a wedgie in a tight spot!:shocked

I don't have any experience with sliders, but it seams like unless you only want to protect the rocker, then it would work, but if you are looking for body protection, no good?

Also, what if you get into a situation where the truck is thinner at the beginning of the slider, then as you move forward, you end up wedging your truck in place?

Or I'm an idiot :toothless

Looks good though!

I think it looks cool, but I agree with the others; that's a wedge-in waiting to happen.

anything would be better than what he runs for sliders on that thing.

hence the nickname rock wedge. Its nothing more than a crazy idea which took 2seconds to mock up so I could post it here. I have no plans on building it unless someone actually wanted a set.

I dont know, I disagree with all of you, and do think it would be somwhat useful, and doubt that you would often get wedged because of it. The only real exception to that I see is if you are squeezing between two trees and driving too fast.

I like it, because it pushes the rear away from whatever obstacle you are into, and if you look at the majority of the guys who run rocks with their broncos, the majority of the rash is the rear quarters.

Now, I wouldnt run one because I too dont like the looks, but the idea is sound. Instead of having it angled like that, why not do like you normall do dustin, but have a kick out at the rear some.

toyota's have been running them for years with a simlar design that flaires WAY out in the back, usually for fullwidth axles......

Mine are set up similar to that.. Mine are 2 x 2 x 3/16's square and they flare out at the rear... I didnt build them like that, they just happened.. The Bronc frame apparently gets wider as it goes back.. Never been stuck because of em.. Theoretically, I can see how you would worry about getting stuck, but realistically, it would never happen.. BTW, Scotts sliders dont do crap to protect his sheetmetal.. If I was him Id ask for my $$ back...:goodfinge

Yep, I think they call 'em "kick-outs". Also, the main square tube with the round tube kick-outs are called "hybrid" sliders among the Tacoma fabricators.

From what I understand, the theory of the kick-outs is to help push or slide the vehicle away from a rock/boulder/tree that's too close to the side. Some like 'em, others claim they actually get hung up too much on rocks and stumps and prefer the sliders to be up and close to the rocker panels. Don't have any myself, so don't have any first-hand experience.

I think it would look stange on the truck, like little baby wings on the sides, and it defeats the purpose of the tubing for body protection at the front.

i like the kick out at the end as opposed to the entire thing being a wedge(reminds me of baja bugs)... this is similar to what i'll be adding to my current sliders when santas brings my bender ... most of my bigger body damage is right above that area

it's easy to point the front of the truck where you want it... but sometimes you just have to drag the rear through... these help
