bigdave 10-30-2003, 10:57 AM Those are great pics! They look like professional pictures for ads and magazines! I guess it's the lighting that makes them look that way.
84excursion 10-30-2003, 02:45 PM Well holy crap. We just got our first snow last night, it is only about a half an inch, but it still sucks...
Most of the pictures were taken witha $20 walmart digital camera.
Yeah hopefully I will be ablke to hang the axle by this weekend..

84excursion 11-06-2003, 03:06 PM The snow fall, and an Integral Calculus test kept me inside and not working on my truck, but this is the progress for this week.

The weather is suposed to clear up a little this weekend, I should have the axle hung by then.
gearrat 11-07-2003, 11:40 AM looking really good there :thumbup
axaviere 11-09-2003, 04:09 PM did you weld the tabs on already or just tack them on? the reason i ask is that in that last pic they look like they arent lined up down the center groove. are those tabs for the trac bar? my only worry on my D60 was that mounting the trac bar on the axles centerline would put it a few inches farther back than the stock point. it may be different since you are doing the whole thing and in my case i am just trying to get the D60s mounting points to match the D44. but i still think the C tabs should line up down the center line.
i dont want you to think i am hijacking your post, but i wanted to tell you thanks. and i hate you. thanks cause seeing how fast you are doing this swap is what is making me get mine started just tonight. i have had the D60s for a while. i put the rear one in finally after the 9" blew but only after driving on the D44 for a while. they i just did the 8 lug the same weekend. i have just been slow on the D60 cause i want it to go in as smoothly as possible. my tabs have the radius arm mount cast in. the only thing i dont have is a good idea for a drag link or ends for it... oh and i hate you because you are making me work on this and i am sure to get no sleep or peace of mind til its done. thanks joe, i needed a kick in the pants.
84excursion 11-10-2003, 09:15 PM one of my profeesors at the college told me one time "a little hate is good, it builds character" then he handed back a test I took the day before.
anyways, the tabs are welded in place. with a 2 degree adjustment. (good idea at the time) Terror right now.
the little tabs are for the track bar, which i am mounting parralel with the axle itself.
I have more pictures to post, but I may not get to them till tomarrow.
axaviere 11-11-2003, 12:24 AM looking good Joe. it may be just the picture, but i was looking at the tabs and the little groove down the center of each tab. one pic that you posted just doesnt look like they are lined up down the middle and it caught my eye. it may affect the way the adius arms and bushings fit up. just wanted to point it out while its still easy to fix. AXE
plug ugly 11-11-2003, 01:54 AM you may need more reinforcing on the lower mount (and upper depending). the track bar is under quite a load, so it is definately better to over do it.

I think it'll be time for a road trip sometime this winter :thumbup I'm kinda thinking about the grill/grill shell, fenders, doors, windshield glass, brake booster and m/c, steering column(if it's a tilt). I can certainly add more items to the trade deal, if it appeals to you :deal
If you haven't done it already, have you thought about using the donor's front rear spring hangers, for a rear shackle flip on yours? Do you already have a rear D60 under yours??
axaviere 11-11-2003, 04:57 AM dont forget the radiator. if that donor had the BB rad, you will run cooler.
84excursion 11-12-2003, 01:37 PM Well htere is not much left of the 79 now, a couple of guys came over with some "cash" (a word that is highly used and sought after but is also a commoditiy that hardly ever exists in klamath falls) They bought the rear 60 and I told them to grab any other knick knacks they wanted fromt he truck. (the grill is brocken, and there are a bout a billion cracks in the rest of the crome and front end.
But as you where saying, no I am not holding on to the shackle mounts.
I bought a kit from SKY's man. (before i found out about the group buy.)
And then i Have a ford 10.25 from my 91' repo standing buy,
so when the sas is done I have 9"to10.25" swap on hand.
most likely another month or two before I gwet to drive again

That's about the same time frame that I could think about a road trip. I'll keep in touch, and see what you have
tim330i 11-12-2003, 03:20 PM If you don't mind me asking how much was your donor truck?
Tim
84excursion 11-15-2003, 01:39 PM That is the cool part.
The whole donor vehicle, running and driving(sort of)
was only $1200, with dana 60's front and back.
And it came from a car lot.
84excursion 11-16-2003, 04:12 PM Ok I am almost done, Did not get to work on it much this week, we had a lot of rain.

I used the rack i made for setting the top of the bronco on as a shelter, so that i could still get some work done.

Here are the head units from the james duff arms.

Davids78Bronco 11-16-2003, 08:28 PM That trac bar looks like it might have clearance issues
fordman7795 11-16-2003, 09:30 PM why didnt the donor truck have a dana 70 in the rear?
Zach94 11-16-2003, 11:04 PM why didnt the donor truck have a dana 70 in the rear?

All done witht he front. Now I am on to the 10.25 swap in the rear. I think I will start looking around for my new set of tires and wheels, I am thinking 38" Tsls, or even the 36" Iroks??, I would like to stay with my MTR's but the largest size they make is 37" and 40" But they are for a 17" rim. Hmm I wonder what 40's would look like??
RaisedIIPerfection 11-18-2003, 09:39 PM :beer :angel Congrats.
Swamp Donkey 11-18-2003, 10:37 PM they make 37x12.5x15 MT/Rs

axaviere 11-19-2003, 02:42 AM curses!! how are you steering? just adapting gm style rods & using the stock tie rod attachment points?
Davids78Bronco 11-19-2003, 03:16 AM broncobandit's selling a set of 5, 37" Boggers - good price too
SuperDave 11-19-2003, 11:38 AM how much is a good price?
jermil01 11-19-2003, 11:52 AM Great job man, that's definitely motivating me to get mine under way.
How did you mount the rear of the radius arm? Can you take a close up for me? I have the same arms and was just wondering. Did you just cut one side off, or did you weld in another brace? Thanks in advance. Slim
