Rear Coil set-up is done.
(accept the shock placement)
It is not a 3-link, or a true wristed set-up
But sort of a one link with a radius arm and trac-bar, don't know what its called? (poor mans 3-link)
Coil buckets - cut and braced TTB buckets
drivers Radius arm - 2" .25 wall DOM with 1" heim at frame
3" poly bushing at axle
passenger radius arm - same as drivers but with lateral support made of same material as trac bar.
Trac-bar 1.5" .25 wall DOM with 3/4" heims
a few brackets are from ballistic fabrication, good pricing for plasma cutting.
(you can tell wich ones I cut with the oxy torch)
Drivers side arm does not have a lateral support so it will act as a wristed arm.
I need to replace the 4" lift TTB springs with 6" 78-79 springs to put the rig as designed. (thinking of the super flex from bronco graveyard, any other suggestions?)

ToddACimer 11-25-2006, 04:35 AM Sweet setup, that's what I want to do with mine next summer. How's it flex?
plug ugly 11-25-2006, 11:14 AM will the tires rub the top of the coil buckets at stuff?
84excursion 11-25-2006, 11:17 AM Sweet setup, that's what I want to do with mine next summer. How's it flex?
Currently there is zero flex, I still have the TTB springs in back, there is not enough weight in back to compress the springs either (no fuel/spare tire etc)
I was worried about tire rub, but I think the spring would have to compress about half of its length before i would have to worry, and when I am done i will be running taller springs.
plug ugly 11-25-2006, 02:31 PM what sorta cash do you have dropped in the links/heims/tube? I was pricing out what it would cost to link my rear, and came to the conclusion that cage arms are not that much more. What material are your tubes out of? 2 in lowers?
Full Size'n It 12-04-2006, 11:46 PM :thumbup I guy here in Colorado I bought some parts from had the same set up on his rock buggy. He loved it. Said it flexed really well and was really easy to adjust. Looks sweet!
fishinnutt 12-05-2006, 08:14 PM Are the brackets that hold your links in place the old leaf spring brackets or something you ordered?
nvme_63 12-05-2006, 08:37 PM man thats sweet how many hurs you think you have in it all
BurnedB 12-05-2006, 09:30 PM my advise is ditch the panhard bar, and trianngulate it.
panhard bars in the back ARE the weak point, they and there mounts cannot handle the stresses an abused truck will get back there.
look at jeep TJ's. with a non triangulated 4 link, the first failure is the tract bar bracket ripping off the axle, or breaking the trac bar itself, and they weigh half of what our trucks do..........
84excursion 12-06-2006, 12:39 AM 1. The arms and entire set-up is still under $500 bucks, but i still have to buy a set of springs. Cage arms would have worked great, but i wanted the "wrist" action in the back. although i am currently working on a "wrist" bracket for my duff arms up front.
2. the frame mounts are a set of brackets from poly-performance. i gues i could have used the stock leaf mounts but i did not feel they where far enough forward on the frame.
3. I probly have about 40-60 hours by myself into it, I don't trust any of my friends to even look at my tools.
4. I know i should have gone with a triangulated 4link but, I am going to need something to fix next winter.:thumbup
I am ordering a set of super flex springs and when I get those installed I will be able to test for flex..
Newbie Ronco 12-06-2006, 10:55 AM What about weighing the back of your buggy and getting coils designed for a rig with similar weight .... say the front of a jeep, I think there coils are the same diameter too ... but id check. Though it wouldnt be hard to make your creation into a 4 link, your trac bar is only gonna be a weak point if you make it ... sure there is alot of stress on it but as long as you've built to compensate its all good.
stx4wheeler 12-06-2006, 12:26 PM i would look at superflex coils from an eb! Cause even the superflex ones for a fullsize are ment to handle the weight of a heavy damn motor in the front, or like previosly said maybe look into xj,zj, tj coils, we have used xj coils on a screambler and that was about the right spring weight.

The famous TJ coils are not the same size. (3.5 to 4" diameter vs 5.5") I already tried that.
but a set of custom brackets would make them work.
I don't know how to weigh just the back half of my buggy. I broke my bathroom scale trying. I am still checking to see where my CG is, and apply that to toal weight. I have to work with educated guesses for now.
Newbie Ronco 12-06-2006, 01:50 PM On "Muscle Car TV" on SPike they just jacked up the car, near the center to see which end came up in the air ... then used axle stands ... then jacked up twoards the end on the ground in different spots until it came up in the airand picked the center of the 2 .... make sense? About hte Coils ... I was thinking Cherokee coils ... a friend of mine bought a cherokee with a 3 in lift on it .... and the guy said supposedly they were just coils from a fullsize ford ... and yes it was stiff as hell so thats why i thought they might be the same diameter.
plug ugly 12-06-2006, 04:24 PM what about ranger/explorer coils?
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/403528/fullsize/bronco-003.jpg
I went with EB front superflex springs on my 4-link. Using cut and braced ttb uppers and stock bko lower cups. They flex great, but I haven't been able to wheel it yet, so I can't say for certain.

Yea i used a set of 78 bko springs to lift the front end of my 84 cherokee.
The cherokee springs however will not fit that great into the cut ttb mounts I am using.
I don't know if I want want to fab up a new set of spring buckets to use the cherokee springs, i am basicly just trying to decide on the 4 or 6" superflex springs now.
I have slightly considered ranger springs, but I need them to be long, and low spring rate.
I may go with the eb front springs too, as suggested above.
phxbronco 12-10-2006, 02:08 AM i would also think eb springs would flex much better. i was going to use 3.5 wild horse coils and make my own buckets so the top of the buckets are about flush with the top of the frame. i would think on a 4 link it would be better to a double triangulated four link since bko's are so heavy wouldnt be hard to bend or break a upper wishbone. loks good though
redbeast9 12-10-2006, 03:18 AM Looks real good and clean. Will you have to chain the arms in this set up to keep from coils from comeing out in extreme flex?
looks good. I love the fuel tank straps at the top there.

I don't know?
If I use the superflex springs I may have to, along with the suggested u-bolt saftey thing-a-ma-jig.
