Portsmouth here...

Sad to say that there isn't a whole lot of "public" land in our area to go out and play on.

Just about all of our old places around here now have houses on them or are posted.

So if you come up with anything, there's local folks that will come out with you.

Notta, none, neeel, unless ya find a private farm or something...Almost everyone does GWNF or Potts MTN in JNF. Uwharrie, Telico, Win-rock, Rausch Creek, Paragon, Crackerneck/Calatree. Oh yeh! the Moab... Sorry man, nothing out that way...(Richmond area)

There's nothing public near Richmond I'm afraid. There are public trails in the George Washington National Forest near Harrisonburg. If you know where Reddish Knob is located, the trails are located on the road up to Flagpole Knob.

I've been on some of them, pretty good stuff but you should have your recovery gear with you. Xterra had an event up there in the fall of 2005.

Good luck

I'm game! I know some great camping spots near the trails....

I've been dying to go camping but had too much to do here. These trails don't compare to what the guys out west are running, but they're better than nothing!

at crabtree falls there are also a couple of campgrounds for those of us who like a few extra amenities at nite (heat or a/c, running water, toilet etc.) just let me know when and where

i grew up in midlothian and used to go to the power lines right on Powhatan border. not sure if still any good since 288 took over Watkins nursery. but was lots of good holes and some short steep hills. you can get to them off otterdale if still open. not real long trails but if start at end towards coalfield rd(was blocked when i used to go) then go to otterdale cross over and go to other section and can end up at 60.

Hi folks!
Add me in when ya'll find places, I'm just getting back into wheeling after a very long absense and I'm looking forward to going!!!!!!!Is there a 4X4 club in the area? Heard there used to be 1 in the mechanicsville area. I'm over by RIC.
Maybe someone that belongs to a hunt club can hook us up as long as we tread lightly!!just a thought
