well, for those who know about it, i finally got around to tearing into my 1356 tcase. for those who dont, it had been giving me fits and just plain been cranky recently, and on a moderate hill climb in ONF a few weekends ago, it let go with a big bang (literally) :toothless . had no 4hi and 2 hi was sporadic and spotty at best. after gathering up the right tools, i was finally about to tear into the case today. carnage total: 4hi shift fork bushing are comletely GONE, and there are metal shavings and bad grooves worn into the forks. also the worm gear for the shift motor is snapped comletely at the front of the case. the only thing holding it in are the short forks:banghead . guess its time to swap in a manual case. anyone got a 1356 manual shift that they wouldnt mind parting with close to gainesville fl?

That sucks..I'll be pulling my electronic one soon and replacing it with the manual one I rebuilt. Keep your eyes on ebay, I've seen a couple of used 1356 manuals on there.

Not really close at all, but I have two manual 1356's sitting on my workbench. Don't ask how I ended up with a total of three t-cases. They are of different vintages, the shift mechanism is different on them. I'm unsure of their condition, but could take a look at them if you are interested. I've got a shifter for one of them too. You'll like the manual shift better anyway, definitely the way to go.
Also, I don't know if you've been inside of a 1356 before, but I think that much slop is pretty much normal. I know that the one I rebuilt was like that too, and after replacing the shift forks and oil pump it works perfectly.

i figured that it was OK, the case has never been under a whole lot of torque. i just thought it was somewhat loose, couldnt tell if it was enough to jump cog teeth.
how much would you want for one of the manual cases? i might could meet you halfway in statesboro or something to pick it up

Drive to Daytona to the pull n save. Under 100 bucks you can get a t-case. Probably laying on the ground too.

Looks like your January FOTM run hit a snag before it even got started. I say come up to Charlotte, get piss drunk for a night with all of us, then return to Florida with a hangover and one of Dave's 1356's.

Tell you what, I'll go out to the garage and check out the cases tomorrow to make sure they're okay and I'll shoot you an offer.
