I picked up some seats from a 93 E.B. today and they are a bit rough. I've searched the forums for upholstery and have a line on the companies that sell the kits to redo the seats. That said, I am wondering if any of you have worked with any local companies to get upholtery workd done that you could recommend.

Also, others have mentioned finding a school that has upholstery classes and could benfit from having a project (materials paid for and a donation for the labor) to work on for class. As I am not in a hurry, this would be a viable option for me. Do any of you have any leads on this type of thing?

No Suggestions, but I am also in need of a drivers side reupholstery. Let us know if you find a good shop.

I want to make the change to bucket seats up front and felt it was important to get brackets that match the truck. While these seats are rough, the brackets match and are solid. I am not too fussed about matching the current pattern and material. For that matter, I wouldn't be adverse to losing the lumbar components and going without arm rests. Well, maybe I would want the arm rests...

I will keep you guys posted on what I find out and end up doing.

Sorry for the late reply. I need to spend more time reading this forum.

The shop you are talking about is a great place for custom stuff. A neighbor of mine just had his 73' Bronco seats re-covered with custom Bronco emblems sewn into each seat. Very nice. There is another shop about 1/2 block west on the north side of Evans called Auto Trim Specialists, but it seems like they do more factory repairs than custom stuff. If you need the phone # for either shop, let me know. I live just a couple blocks from both shops.

Thanks for the recommendations and ideas. A few updates regarding the options researched, what I ended up doing and a plea to take some extra stuff off my hands.

I looked into several shops around town and found that getting the seats (2 front buckets and rear bench) upholstered would be between $500 and $1,200. I could not find a high school with an upholstery class and the adult education options were not much better - but Emily Griffith (downtown) does have an upholstery class, the tuition is about $250. Buying seat covers and installing them myself would be between $400 - $650. Anyway you slice it, getting rough upholstery "un-roughed" takes some dollars.

While searching for arm rests to put on my rough seats, I bought another pair of cloth Eddie Bauer front seats in decent shape, but they did not have the mounting brackets. So, I took the brackets from the first set and used them to install the second set. The color of the second set is a close enough match for my existing interior. All in all, I lucked out on the upholstery issue and would like to pay it forward with a plea to take some stuff of my hands.

As indicated above, the upholstery on the first set of seats was really rough - however the lumbar stuff (switch, motor, tubes and airbag) works - so I removed them. I also have the rear bench seat that I ended up not installing. If you can use these items for your truck - let me know and you can have them cheap. What is cheap? How about - $10 for both passenger and driver lumbar stuff and $20 for the rear seat - local pickup, no shipping.

Did you say you had a bench seat? If so, where is that?

I still have my original front bench seat in my basement. I kept it thinking that someday I may want to put it back in.
